At this stage of this discussion, any contribution should go a step higher.
No one is comparing ehailing with IOCs. Who wouldn't like to work in Mobile, Chevron, Shell n co Or good government jobs?

Let face reality...
IOCs take 26yrs max for entry level and experienced hires are taken if u have experience or masters, from abroad preferably. How many people do they even recruit yearly sometimes less than 20. For example, one year Schlumberger took 12, yes only 12 people for Technical Graduate Trainee, that's even because they were expanding. Out of thousands of engineering and geology graduates with 2.1 and First class. How many get into Mobile, Shell, Chevron etc. You know it's not by intelligence alone, people that get these few jobs are connected, lucky and fortunate too. So if one kept trying till he gets older than entry level age he has to move on to other fields.
To get a good govt job today u go sort minimum 500k sometimes 3m for NNPC or CBN plus connect to get in.
To get good corporate job at this our age it's either u have d experience or u have a good Masters degree or MBA from overseas or strong professional qualification like PMP, CFA, ACCA, ICAN, CIBN, CMA, IRM, CBAP, CIPM, CCNA CISM, CISA etc
Guess what u may still have all these and still not get the job.
Now do u have 15m to do MBA or masters abroad? Cos that's the closest way of getting these high paying jobs if u weren't lucky to get in as fresh graduate and get the experience in that line from the beginning.

We all want those pecks and luxury, but few people look at the route and take on d challenges to get there, many are willing but are not rich enough to fulfill those dreams. But when reality comes and boyhood dreams didn't workout, u quit wishful thinking, face life, work it out where you find yourself with the tools available.

Nobody says u shouldn't desire working in big companies or drive forever...it's ur wish if u do by the way, but u can keep applying to these jobs u desire if u r fortunate to get it we will celebrate with u or u can take d hustle serious and with proper planning, in few years earn as much as those companies would pay u.

U r talking about impact an Uber driver can make in life... beyond having the finances to help family, friends, neighbors and people around. If u grow ur business and provide a car for another man to earn a living and provide for his own family, my brother, that's a great impact to life and the society. What other impact is more than investing on another soul apart from salvation.

My brother, allow us be talking in the clouds de go. Na so 400k job full everywhere naim traffic de tie wrapper from mainland to island to and fro in rush hour everyday. Or population per square meter in ajegunle is more than 10 times that of ikoyi.

When oil prices crashed to rock bottom prices do these guys know how many people were laid off or collected solid pay cuts. My former landlord who is in the industry was everyday thanking God that his company was able to ride the tide because they also sell natural gas...na Thier saving grace be that otherwise who knows what would have happened.

This same Uber we're trashing here is what loads of people are doing abroad and they'll come back drivers here go de look for Roger from them without knowing. Uber has even dignified it a bit, na cab many de drive until Uber came.
Around 2019, I took this chic to agungi. On the way we were sha talking, she told me she drives in Yankee too, asked about the job here and all. Towards the end of the trip we realize that we were in the same department in unilag, me in master's class, she in final year, so we weren't talking then. After dropping her, I started to compare the person she is now with the one I knew back in school. She had grown as a person. She was no longer the fairweather girl from back in school. Work had humbled her but most importantly she now understood value.

In 2015 I worked at MITV briefly, salary was 50k, no benefits no extra anything, not even leave. They still owed me salary. One day my head of department came in grumbling, say chairman said even if they pay all departments they shouldn't pay ours, say shebi we de comot and we de collect brown envelope. Immediately I left I registered my own hustle. I have that which is my passion but as it is, it's what I make from Uber that allows me continue to feed that passion.

400k in Shell is the same 400k in e-hailing. Shit money no de smell.

Feli Feli...there is a thin line between being worthy, feeling deserving of something and being ungrateful.
Let me ask u, don't u thank a CEO for giving u a job? Even when u have gone through all the recruitment huddles and u r qualified and found worthy of holding that position??
Don't u thank someone for giving you a contract that made u blow and changed your life.
Look, irrespective of how u look at it. If someone gave u an opportunity that helped you grow in life, u still have to thank the person even if u were only doing a job or a business transaction. He could have given it to someone else.
Our newest car owner here paid for his car in full even with down payment but I am sure he is grateful for the opportunity, trust and confidence the owner of the car had in him. Yes, the owner has gained but u have also benefitted. It's a win win.

Everyone is happy when everyone makes money... O don't understand how this seemingly simple concept is flying over heads here

Why is it hard for we as Nigerians to be humble? Thats the question you should ponder about instead.

What stops you from getting the exact oil you know your car use? Don't blame the poor kazeem, blame yourself.

We want to register a car we contract it out to somebody

Formerly we want to get DL we contract it out and the person will ask for our details and passport photo.

We need tinted permit we contract it out and the person will go do fake for us

We need roadworthiness, vehicle licence, NIN, TIN so many other things we contract it to somebody who goes cutting edges and when the chips are down we start crying fowl casting blame on people whereas we are the problem ourselves.

Most of these things are things you can do ourselves but because of our bossy and colonial upbringing we prefer to send one "my boy".

It is well shall.

I come in peace o.

See ehn, sometime in my life(few years ago) I had the privilege of working in a microfinance bank. That job changed my narrative about cooperate jobs in Nigeria. (Banking)

No shade to UBA and First bank, but there staffs are nothing to write home about financially. The amount of loans they pay to the company I worked for made me shiver.

As at then, the entry level salary was 70k, staffs from the 5-9th floor if I remember correctly earned around 150k - 300k

We had just one customer on the 11th or 12th floor if I remember correctly...he earned arnd 800k plus allowance of 100kplus every 2weeks.

Now this is not heresays. These are people who literally beg me to come pick up there bank statements at there office in Marina. All those banks in Marina was my second office cus I go every now and den to pick up statements and post dated cheques. These guys hv close to nothing left in there accts even 1week after receiving salary, at most 2weeks...even the once collecting Allowance are worse..cus they even borrow more money than the ones earning lower salaries.

Now I'm not saying cooperate jobs are bad, but the way Uber job is disrespected in this thread is crazy..if you can't bear the struggles of struggling with lekki girls, kindly stick to your cooperate job. But if it's a bank job...I can only promise you it's nothing but Suits, Vibes and insha'Allah..
you ever hear "mo money mo problems"?

Bros no one is talking down on uber earning, no! What we are saying is is not wise to resign a paying job where you're a staff or compare a bank managerial job that pays say 250k to uber driving.

Even if a banker who is a staff earns 250k monthly he's far better off than an average uber driver who earns 400k monthly. Pearl1910 already gave us a deep insight with a case study.

Those guys are entitle to a non interest loans ooh... My pastors wife is a manager with one of these commercial banks with over 17yrs working, thought most times she has to use her salary to pay egbese for months... But she's given a non interest loan, allowances, car allowance, and some other things like that... With wisdom given to her husband they're a landlord in Lagos and in their village and still have a big cathedral in Lagos as well on a 2plot s of land... Uber will hardly give a man such achievement bros take it or leave it.

Have you tried getting a loan b4? They'll say you must be a salary earner for you to be considered... Are Uber drivers salary earners? So these are the limitations we are talking about not down talking uber earnings per say. After all the opportunity are limited so we have to manage whatever we see.

This guy self always bursting people's bubblesgrin

I just wonder how someone in his right senses would want to compare the earning of a university graduate with say 2.1 at least to that of a uber driver who drives for an average of 12hrs daily to earn an average of say 400-500k monthly.

For goodness sake how does that corollates?

We are not talking about contract workers here. Do you guys have an idea what a Exxon Mobil, Total or oil servicing companies like Halliburton pay their fresh graduate at all?.. And you wanna compare the special treatment, working environment, career, circles of friends, opportunities and all other allowances to that cheerful who thinks he can earn 700k monthly? How many years can he drive to earn 700-800k monthly? How feasible is that?

When I was FME with Hauwei my monthly salary alone as a contract worker was 3**k... Vehicle allowance was 2*0k, sum that up! Within 6months I was able to buy a car, a plot of land and do other things... I started my farm from savings... You think to have about **acres of farm without any government assistance for naija na beans? Other earnings never join ooh... Every month at least I can tell you I get nothing less than a **'ll*** naira and you want to compare a uber driver to that or to my school mates we all graduated together that works with Mobil or total earning 1.250m as start up salary? And one motivational speaker wants to show his colleagues just one driver's dashboard so they can resign maybe because they're earning 100k? One driver's dashboard ooh among hundreds of them... How many drivers can earn such amount monthly?

Every job comes with its own challenges just as every course in school does so you just need to figure out your own course to know if you can include an extra course or department to have 2 degrees.

What opportunities abides for an average uber driver with 10yrs of driving experience? Is it political appointment, or ministerial appointment? Or Will Uche give him, cheerfulgiver or Pearl a holiday trip to the Bahamas or Paris? Hell no! Even during festive period how many drivers has gotten a free ride with his family to a resort or a bag of rice from uber or bolt? And some persons are making comparison. What nonsense!

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was once a teacher, from one appointment to another he became president.
Attiru Jega nko?... Now he's a member of a political party...hopefully he'll become either a governor, minister or a president later.
How about fmr CBN Govs and the present Gov of CBN Godwin Emefiele were they not bankers?

So what future does an average uber driver has? Even his friends are also uber drivers or keke drivers and some persons are coming here to talk about earnings. Is life all about earnings? How many lives can an average uber driver impact... Him don bath?

Can you imagine??!!

First time I'll partially agree with you abeit the exaggerations.
