You and Dapotemi basically spoke my mind... I'd just been too busy to type. Standing on the existing premises let me give guys that can think here some perspective and context.

A 9 to 5 = 8 hours at work. Because the person lives in on the farther parts of the mainland where MOST of the state's population live, he has to be at the bus stop by 6 (Many have to be earlier)
So conservatively he uses 3 hours to commute to and from work. that's 6 hours daily. Add time at work, that's 14hrs. Add 1 hour of waking up and getting ready for work= 15 hours.
If you live anywhere beyond Ikeja, we can easily add another 2 to 3 hours to this as many of them have to leave the house before 5 and get home like 9 10pm give or take.
And most of the people living in these parts, even Ajah and beyond make slightly more than 100k, if at all.

Now you the Uber man, like me, today I went online 5am. I don't have a commute, it's straight to work, 6pm I'm home which is where I'm typing this from. That's a cumulative of 13 hours. During these 13 hours, I wasn't driving for 13 hours straight, I did 15 trips. There were wait times i.e waiting for trips/waiting for rider to come out etc. Also there was 1 hour break for rest and recharge. All in all 13 hours sha.

Now if I continue like this and work 5 days only and conservatively, I'll net 50k a week =200k a month = 2.4m a year. My conservative projection was 250k a month 3M a year, but since I met cheerfulgiver, it became clear I could/should do better. Now that conservative projection is 350k a month, 4.2M a year, which is close to a manager's salary in a solid company. Compare this with the office guy making 150 a month 1.8M a year. This guy dresses well and all but he makes less per hour committed to work.
Crown all of this with the independence I enjoy, LORD, you have to be paying some really serious money to take that from me o. The people who you guys seem to envy don't have this, AND they don't make as much money AND all of us de dey Lagos traffic, but I get paid to sit in it.

SO why should I think I'm in an undesirable position?? Because people perceive me to be so? How anybody acts and carries on is a reflection of them NOT ME. If you enter my car and speak rudely is a reflection of you. It says much about you, how I respond says much about me. Don't get me wrong o, I've had to rip a few riders a new one but generally, ESPECIALLY NOW,I've come to realise that many of the things we perceive as insults or affronts, na just our fragile ego feeling bruised so I'm even calmer now, more patient, even maybe understanding sef because I can't imagine being an olosho and I go de happy...unless I really like sex. So when these girls act up sometimes, I feel more pity than anger. But I feel none of that for the boys o, I sabi vex for G-boys cos Yahoo no be work, na crime.

So why all the pessimism? The purpose of this thread is to share experiences on the job. Na only bad experience Una de get? How do people, newbies, other drivers learn if all that's shared here is negativity. It'll just be a cycle of ill vibes that will be carried over to the job because since na the only narrative then that's what's being advocated.
Unfortunately it's all a self esteem issue. You feel you're getting the short end of the stick. You'd rather work in an office and make 200k if you're lucky. E-hailing is just a last resort and na condition make your crayfish bend. "If no be as things be, will this small girl talk to me like this?" Have you seen where a girl in her twenties heads a unit in the office and her team members are much older and she will scold them like children? We all carry them na, and we hear them talk. Those English speaking chics with abroad master's degrees. Abi na only me de carry them ni? You think it's only in your car people are toxic? Lol

Yesterday I dropped a rider at Allen, (the one I refunded to), while I was still at the parked there I called bae, she said she de around Allen, na so work finish for the day, it was past 2. Earnings was 14k after commission. We went to spur at ICM to eat, hung out for a bit, I dropped her off, 7pm I don de house, past 9 I slept to wake up 4.20. I try to make sure I get at least 6 hours of sleep, preferably 7, but I'm not really a sleep person unless I'm completely knackered. At the end of the day, 5k still gum me reach house o. Basically I own me, well, madam owns me but... You sha get the picture. Could I have continued working? YES. Today, I've covered up for yesterday so account still de on track.
I don't work plenty hours like you guys like to insinuate, I don't have a bucket in my boot and I obviously don't sleep inside car. Sometimes, like today, you have a hot hand so you just keep playing until the house tells you it's enough.
I try to appear nice, speak with good diction, dress well, wear H&C shirts, Lugs sneakers and I braid my hair.

Now tell me why should I feel inferior to anybody or suffer a crises of self esteem WHY

Guys, chill. You can make money if you want, do anything, light oven, sleep, whatever... Whatever you will attract similar, it's that simple.
However let's lift one another, that's the best way to rise. That is the purpose of this thread.

Today's 2k.

The only reason why this thread isnt flooded with people looking for cars to drive is because they do not know the opportunities here.

Daily 5k for fuel, 0-2k feeding... weekly 4k recharge card (data and calls)
Servicing every 1.5 months- 7ltrs of oil -17k, filter 2k, labour 3k.=21k every other month
Repairs are one-off, engine and transmission are the most expensive but the least frequent.
AC is next but also infrequent
Shocks in our business, should do once a year or more, but very bad should be at least 6 months.
All other fixes suspension issues which are the most frequently occurring in a worst case scenario should be at least every 3 months- which in my opinion says something about how the car is being driven. Tires, na luck. Anybody could buy tires now and at the next street it gets punctured at the corner where it's nearly unfixable. Sh!t happens.
All the above are costs associated with every car user irrespective of the occupation, but it's more frequent with us as this is our tool.
If properly diagnosed and repaired these issues should not come up again for a considerable amount of time.

Every other living expenses are what every human being faces so I can't add DStv subscription for example to my operating costs (Someone here has done this before)

If I've NETTED 350k in a month, spending 50k on the car should not be a problem.

One thing I've come to realize about this hustle is that you can always push yourself to do more, I have a mantra that I follow, "Do You" from the first day I started the hustle I said I won't use more than 6-8hrs on the road, but then I leave home late in the morning, account no dey gree balance.

Started leaving home early, and set a target for myself, anytime I net 10k I'm heading back home, from wherever I am I set destination back home, but mouth come wide again, I wanted more, started aiming for 15k net, did it for over 2 weeks. Omo when the end result came ehn, I'll just suddenly become tired on the wheel, my leg joints nearly wreck, I had to rest for 2 weeks, I jejely reaumed to my 10k net and close up shop, leave home 8am sometimes 2-3 pm I'm home, and keep myself busy with other things.

You can make the dashboards of everyone here if you're willing to put in the time and effort, but some of us are not cut of out of the same clothes as others.

We have different goals and aim of doing this hustle, like Felicity001 said you might be aiming 1m while I aim 200k, we all have different goals, everyone has their time to work with. So there's no reason to beef the very hardworking ones like cheerfulgiver, pearl and goatkanu, or mock we the lazy gang, as we all move at our own pace.

Sometimes life's troubles is what pushed most of us into this hustle as no one would willingly want to become an uber driver without something pushing them towards it, but as you are now a driver, put that your big ego at home and work for your money, as that's the only thing that should keep you motivated.

I pray we all meet our goals of being in this hustle and move on to better things, make I go find my daily 2k.

FuckEveryday:

See ehn, sometime in my life(few years ago) I had the privilege of working in a microfinance bank. That job changed my narrative about cooperate jobs in Nigeria. (Banking)

No shade to UBA and First bank, but there staffs are nothing to write home about financially. The amount of loans they pay to the company I worked for made me shiver.

As at then, the entry level salary was 70k, staffs from the 5-9th floor if I remember correctly earned around 150k - 300k

We had just one customer on the 11th or 12th floor if I remember correctly...he earned arnd 800k plus allowance of 100kplus every 2weeks.

Now this is not heresays. These are people who literally beg me to come pick up there bank statements at there office in Marina. All those banks in Marina was my second office cus I go every now and den to pick up statements and post dated cheques. These guys hv close to nothing left in there accts even 1week after receiving salary, at most 2weeks...even the once collecting Allowance are worse..cus they even borrow more money than the ones earning lower salaries.

Now I'm not saying cooperate jobs are bad, but the way Uber job is disrespected in this thread is crazy..if you can't bear the struggles of struggling with lekki girls, kindly stick to your cooperate job. But if it's a bank job...I can only promise you it's nothing but Suits, Vibes and insha'Allah..

As a former banker with FCMB and Skye Bank you are on point

You are just a lazy driver, this is the easiest way to make money.
They say you can just be driving in ur AC car at your own time and pace, eat, drive, park, sleep as you like then money will just be flowing.
In fact every other job is tough minus Uber, u even lazy pass bazooi.

I really don't think those people did dia feasibility study from on set, the failed plan is crystal clear or maybe someone benefit from this mis- stepped of a blunder. Going for suzuki is just to rip the drivers off completely, cos I doubt the value of the car when it's said and done.

Banking job in Nigeria is not easy at all .. Yes ur wife is making 300k a month... But you are not telling us how many hours she puts in daily... You are not telling us how early she wakes up in the morning to catch the bus and how late she gets off from work ......

You are not telling us the potential sexual harassment she might have face....FCMB executive drama that happened about few years ago comes to mind.... Female bankers go through hell to meet up with their marketing target........

To me entrepreneur is that best way to go ... Few days ago I posted a video on my whatapps about we parents leaving something behind for our kids... A job will not guarantee your child future.. As a matter of fact if a person dies today at his job .. His boss will easily replace before the burial and the person leaves nothing behind because ur kids can't inherit your job .. But if u have business and u pass away ur kids can inherit your business.......plz let us think about out future and legacy we want to leave for our kids.....

Let us think outside the box ..most business men started little or use something to start a small business and grow big etc

Pearl1910 is an example he started driving to owing his on small fleet of uber cars. Before you know it he will gradually go on into other area of business.. And with a little bit of luck and hard work he will hit it big .. It is all about progression and last last his kids can inherit his business not a job ......

Last last life is what you make it .......

Guys,

Please, my 2005 honda pilot began finding it difficult to accelerate while motion or while trying to climbing a bump yesterday.

While in motion, it doesnt go above 20km/hr at once, and takes some time to accelerate.

When trying to climb a bump, it occasionally finds it difficult to climb a bump, so I would have to reverse before moving speadily over the bump.

What could be the issue?

Guys! The issue has been resolved o. The culprit was the fuel pump. In fact, as soon as the fuel pump was replaced, some other issues I was experiencing with the car (such as the AC vent on the passenger side nor workinb) resolved immediately.

Apparently, a lot of issues could be caused from a fault fuel pump.

Thanks for all your support, guys. Much appreciated

Good morning Guys,
Please let's be careful with deliveries. Apart from issues of not getting your money, most of them are drugs packaged in different kind of things. They now use us as conduit to transport and traffic their drugs.
If anything goes wrong, police stops u, and they can't be reached u r on your own o. Even Bolt says they don't sanction unaccompanied deliveries so let's be guided.

Good to hear your car is fine now. The truth is users tend to forget easily when issues like this occurs this is due to our lack of record keeping. As you mentioned the culprit I just remembered how my Honda car also had similar issue but my own was that it goes off after driving for some distance especially when the engine is hot and when I turn the engine on after allowing to cool down car drives well again but goes on and on like that again... It finally parked up along ore-benin road on Sunday evening on my to Benin.

But that sluggishness when trying to drive on a hill was traced to the gear reason I recommended you check your transmission oil because dirty gear filter and short in transmission fluid can also cause this problem.

Anyways, its good you got the right problem timely rather than spending money troubleshooting without any headway.

By the way who was the mechanic that came through for you? That person must be an expert in that regards.

Can you imagine! You see Bolt Will always wash their hands like Pontius Pilate when issues arise. I remember some years back when I stated it here that I don't do deliveries due to what bolt replied to me some experience b4 that they're not carrier services so I decided to pick another passenger going same direction instead of going empty many called me all kinds of unprintable names... Now, just imagine! Rider's parking drugs and sending it through a fare of at most 1500 box.

My principles might not sound great but its for my safety and good for those that find it interesting.

The other driver that was arrested at the airport for trying to deliver a package of drug we don't even know how that case ended.

I was somewhere at mobile filling station along Int'L Airport way some months ago when I got this request on 1.7x surge to Ajah... The lady called and said its a delivery I've to pick it up from the shipping company and deliver to her while she pays when I arrive. I told her straight up... "Madam I don't do delivery beside I cant step out of my car to go do all the signings and collections for a total stranger please try another driver". She tried to convince me that is baby bathing soap and all that... "Madam I'm sorry I can't". She cancelled and i got another request to VI without surge... I prefer it.

So drivers should be careful, this racket get plenty hazards o

This message is for prospective car owners or those who wants to resign from work to come and make 900K a month like cheerfulgiver. Please before u resign use a dashboard of a lazy driver as a bench mark but aim higher.

That's not the right attitude to approach any venture.
The least u can make is zero naira...
How do u mean u measure the least u can make...if u don't work u will not make shishi. Even if u open a supermarket with 10m, if u don't stock it with the right products and come everyday to open shop u will not sell.

Best way to enter a business is to know the potentials in it, find out the secrets, then work towards maximizing and achieving the highest standards.
U must find out the market size and value, then determine what percentage of this market is okay for u if u put in the work the business entails.
No matter how juicy a business is, if u don't do d basics u will not get anything from it.

That analysis is for everybody, as a partner u take what concerns u, as a driver u take what concerns u, as a partner driver u can see what concerns u.

If someone says u can make 100k/month in a business what should concern u is..
Is it true?...if yes
Then the next question is...How do u achieve this? What do I need to do? What skills or tools do I need??
Worst case u will not do it perfectly and u will achieve less then as u continue until u perfect it.
But asking for the minimum u can achieve sounds like a business u don't require doing anything like all those scam businesses where u end up loosing all your money.

You see in this life. Just do you. There's no point comparing e-hailing business to working in a bank or ioc.
Some people working in a bank gone up to be become bank managers earning almost a million a month while some gets sacked.

Someone doing e-hailing today might not be earning like bank managers even in the next 10 years. While another person doing e-hailing might go on to own multiple cars and earning x5 of what bank managers are earning. Some might even go on to branch into other business like owning a truck or something.

That's just the reality of life...

A friend of mine that's buying and giving out keke napep for hire copped a 15m property one time and pay it at a go. I was very shocked. I never imagine he could have that kind of money.
Later next year after that purchase, he bought another one for 7m. Omo na that time I know that guy get money and stopped estimating his networth in my head. And they are plenty of people like him making it big with keke hire purchase.
So that's the power of compounding in business, they always putting back their profit back into the business and before you know it you would have big capital that you can't even explain how you are able to raise that.

Whatever we are doing. May God bless our hustle.
