A Proposal To Change The Word Olorun (God) by Nobody: 7:57am On Aug 08, 2021 |
I propose the word/name Olorun be disregarded as God's nomenclature. My reasons Olorun, Ad'eda... Which is same as saying God or Allah in other languages is not a suitable way of regarding the Supreme being in our Yoruba language. How do i mean? Olorun simply means 'who own heavens' but is that so suitable? My answer is NO, he owns more than heavens... Ad'eda.. I still prefer Adeda to Olorun. Ad'eda means who create beings. But wait a minute... I propose ELEHUN / OLOHUN. You can choose to ignore the letter 'H' as Yoruba alphabets doesn't have H. Elehun or Olohun means the Fabricator or what Fabricated... If you believe there is God, you should believe he fabricated everything we can still see and feel including heavenly bodies and many other planets in a universe, maybe more. Interestingly, they all work concurrently as one force triggers another. Who is this great Fabricator na? Olohun. (Greatest Engineer) Caveat: I don't have any problem with other Languages, but I hope the word describing God in Yoruba language give credence to "Ele'un" for his great works. I also believe we all have our own different ways of reference to God, i'm more concerned about Olorun 1 Like 1 Share |

Drabeey: I don't thing there's anything wrong with "Olorun". It is translated as the "owner of heaven" but doesn't mean He doesn't own other things Adeda is better. 1 Like |

Ọlọ́run is the direct opposite of Alayé! Just as Alayé mean someone having authority on earth the same is applicable to Ọlọ́run which means someone having authority in heaven. We know that there are Alayé here and there. If the local government chairman of your LCDA is around everyone in that area will honour the Alayé. Now what happens when the governor of your state is approaching? Of course that's another Alayé that's SUPERIOR to the one you're honouring. OK, what about if the president of your country is coming? Surely that's another Alayé that's SUPERIOR to your governor. And when the president of the United States of America is speaking, everyone knows that he is another Alayé that's SUPERIOR to the president of your country. So Alayé pass Alayé, the same thing is applicable to Ọlọ́run, Ọlọ́run pass Ọlọ́run. In most cultures everyone knows that the gods are many which means there are many spirits having authority in heaven and there's ranking there. But there is one whose Authority surpasses all others. Yorùbá often refer to this person as Olódùmarè (ALMIGHTY) May you have PEACE! 2 Likes |

In the first place, I don't know where you got the historical details that state Olohun is the same entity as Allah or Jehovah. FYI, Olohun is native to Yorubaland, just like Allah (from Arabia) and Yahweh or Jehovah (from Israel) are distinct entities. In other words, historically, Olohun is different from Allah; Olohun is different from Jehovah; and Allah is different from Jehovah. There's so much ignorance exhibited by religious people. Muslims worship Allah, the imported moongod from Saudi, just like Christians worship Jehovah, another imported deity from Europe. The Yorubas (traditionalists) worship Olohun, native to Yorubaland. Get a good history book of Yorubas written by natives of the land themselves, and educate yourself. Do not merely read the false, doctored histories in the so-called "holy" books. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Allah is nothing but an ancestor of Arabs, who calls himself God in the Qur'an, and he was deified by his descendants in Saudi and the Arab world. In the same vein, Yahweh is an ancestor of the Israelites who claims the title of God in the Bible and was deified by his descendants in Europe. Olohun is an ancestor of the Yorubas that people deified as God and worship. Other major gods in Nigeria are Osanobua, Chineke (Chukwu) that ignorant people call Jehovah or Allah. Each culture around the world has their own gods, who are mainly their ancestors that did something great in the past and were deified as God. Only a fool that doesn't know his history would worship the ancestors of other people and abandon his traditions. By worshiping Allah or Jehovah, a person becomes a slave of foreign lands and abhors his culture and traditions. That's why a typical Nigerian will rather give their child a foreign name than a native one. That's one major problem with Africans and Nigerians, and why the continent isn't making much progress compared with Europe and Asia (Africans' slavemasters). Worshipping a god/God brings about mental slavery, among many other issues, and it's even worse to worship foreign (imported) gods and abandon your native gods. Doing so kills a people since they'd lose their identity (culture and language) and become slaves (sheep). 4 Likes 1 Share |

22jumpstreet:This is a tough one since it depends on the individuals understanding of the "Jesus story" as Jesus is like the elephant of which we all grab bits and go on to name the whole. For as is written, for the blind, the lesson is to see, for the lame it is to walk; for the leprous it is to be cleansed; for the deaf it is to hear; for the dead, to become alive; and for the poor (in understanding), the good news of the richness of understanding. In a nutshell - as much as one may attempt to place the immenseness of 'Jesus' in a nut shell, which is an error, as it involves the creation of an image; the lessons of the stories of Jesus are that we open our eyes (and all other senses) and learn to use them so that we may know instead of being slaves to those who offer us bread (beliefs) in exchange for our body and soul. P.s. Again, I have failed to answer your question. But I trust that with patience, we may both be able to fish out a more adequate answer. P.s.s. Our next question must be, What is Jesus, for it should have been our first. And please don't say "a story", for that we have already agreed. Oh! And welcome, jump, to your first interaction with buda. May it profit us both by diminishing our beliefs and grow us instead in our understanding. 1 Like |

Orun is actually a mountain upon where Olorun descended when he and other gods like him came down to the earth to explore it. Therefore Olorun is a suitable name for him. Jehovah, Allah etc. also spoke of one mountain or the other which they adored. But as a matter of fact, neither Olorun nor Jehovah not Allah, nor Vishnu, Siva, Atum, Brahma is God Almighty. Rather, God Almighty is the sum total of all things in existence. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Drabeey:Olorun means literarily Olu (Chief, Ruler) Orun (Heaven) Olorun isn't the name of God BUT one of the titles as the "God/Deity of Heaven". The Yoruba has no name for the Creator: we call Him by His titles: just like we dont usually call the names of our kings (except for this modern times) we call them by their titles Adeda (Creator of Humans) is even more limited than Olorun (Owner of the Heavens) Truthfully the Earth is a tiny subset of the Heavens 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: A Proposal To Change The Word Olorun (God) by OtemAtum: 8:37am On Aug 10, 2021 |
Drabeey:Olohun means owner of something. It doesn't necessarily means he fabricated all. Olorun means owner of 'Orun' and in the literal term, Orun is 'above' or 'up'. But the point is that Olorun isn't even God Almighty but one of the creations within God Almighty, just as we have Jehovah, Allah, Otem, yourself and everybody and everything else in existence. 3 Likes 1 Share |

MaxInDHouse: Because I have read and understood the so called old testament. There is no where God said he was sending his son as a Ransome. He has already given a solution to the problem of sin. He has given his laws and time after time he said they would last forever. The Messiah he promised is a man like me and you, with a father and mother from the tribe of Judah. Not a demi God. I don't know why you are so fixated on belonging to a Cult or group. Just learn the laws and obey them. So I really don't know where Paul and Co got the idea from. |
Re: A Proposal To Change The Word Olorun (God) by 22jumpstreet: 10:51am On Aug 10, 2021 |
budaatum: I don't expect you to be this ignorant. There are already people who God has given the wisdom to know what to do in different situation. Like doctors, nurses, lawyers, psychologist, psychiatrist.. etc. Jesus is none of those. How does he give sight to the blind? Telepathically? Nah. God already given his laws to guide us and wisdom and understanding to discern them. I did create a thread about why some actions are considered sin, the purpose was for us to know that though we have the capacity and ability to do them, but it not in the best interest of the whole.. |

22jumpstreet: I remembered you once said you'll stop chatting, quote or mention me but it's so obvious that you keep coming back to me. Well that's the sign you need to know that i've gotten what you can't find elsewhere, it's the wisdom from JESUS CHRIST the only begotten Son of God that his true followers JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES are taking to all the four corners of the earth. 22jumpstreet: The above is your own words after reading my comment, i'll be glad if you can find just one person on this forum whose comments will continue to make you come back for more. I told you times without number that what you're seeing in me that keep dragging you back only exist in the midst of JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES! |
Re: A Proposal To Change The Word Olorun (God) by budaatum: 11:45am On Aug 10, 2021 |
22jumpstreet:You will find that you actually have to do quite a lot of work to acquire this wisdom you claim God gives people. If that were not the case you would have expected God to have given wisdom to me, or blame God for not giving me wisdom and for the ignorance you claim I have. 22jumpstreet:I did say your next question should be "what is Jesus", but I see you wish to evade that question and discuss a "Jesus" we are yet to flesh out. All the same, I'll help you. "In the beginning was the Logos, and through it all things were made; without it nothing was made that has been made." One can't be a "doctors, nurses, lawyers, psychologist, psychiatrist.. etc" or have wisdom without Logos, which some personify as Jesus. 22jumpstreet: And where has "God already given his laws to guide us and wisdom and understanding to discern them", if not that some have managed to discern them and presented them to us in books for us to read and understand with our own minds? 22jumpstreet:I'm sure it is a sin of some sort to claim your fellow human being is ignorant. It sure is "not in the best interest of the whole" to make such a claim, since it just creates enmity which is a barrier to learning, as you'd find when you start disrespecting and insulting those you converse with. Is it that you lack "the capacity and ability" to have a civilised conversation without being rude, or don't you think it is sinful to call others ignorant without first putting in some effort to understand what it is one is saying?
