Popular Nollywood Actor, Williams Uchemba, has taken to his social media page to share his opinion on being motivated by the famous quote ‘you can be whatever you want to be’.

According to the Actor, that saying has led many to an early grave.

His post on Instagram reads ;

One of the biggest lies I believed all my life, and till date still see people make the same mistake, is the lie that YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE. This sentence has led so many people to their untimely death, frustration and hopelessness.

Imagine telling a sofa you can be a fridge or a fridge you can be a bed if you believe. Before the manufacturer of the sofa even started manufacturing it, he already knew the purpose of the sofa and the problem it would solve. The manufacture finished the product in his mind even before he started.

Just like the sofa, fridge and bed every individual on earth was created for a different purpose but, the biggest problem they are faced with is HOW TO DISCOVER THEIR PURPOSE. Whenever a product is created there are usually two ways for one to know the purpose of that product (1) ask the manufacturer or (2) read the manual that comes with the product.

You are a product that was created by a manufacturer(God) who before you were born knows what you will become ( Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”) and how you will be function better, but we live in a world that is constantly trying to figure out their purpose ,reading everything and asking everyone except the one that created. When you stick to the manufacturer that created you (God) and the Manuel he provided( The word of God) I bet you that the purpose why you are on earth will manifest.

If people stop trying and give up, then its either suicide or deep dark depression.

What he said about this quote is nothing but the true.. While growing up most kids wanted to become the president and governors.. By the time we start counting 4 years for each person.. There will still be a lot of people yet to attain the position even at the age of 80 while some will die still nursing their intentions.

I agree but there are big obstacles to identifying one's purpose in life especially in Nigeria and by extension Africa.

- Traditional parental control where your parents dictate your purpose rather than guiding and helping to discover it in line with your natural abilities and gifts.
- Secondary School system that over-emphasizes academics and minimizes extra-curriculum activities that encourage development of inventive, artistic or sporting talents
- Our environment, which through bad governments, cultural inhibitions, family's poor economic condition, etc offers little incentives or enabling force for young people to discover their purpose in life.
- Spiritual inhibitions where family members or neighbours use "jazz" and witchcraft to pull others down through envy or negative competitiveness.

We rise by grace of God in Africa.

One Nigeria problem is English, The word “can” is not an assurance word, it simply means there is a probability in the situation.... No one said “u will be, they said u can be” so there is no sense in what this dude is saying, “Can” here simply means e fit happen and e fit no happen atleast try.... it not guarantee u will find all u seek, but atleast u can’t find what u did not seek.... If not for some of this motivational quotes so many suicidal and depression case for don plenty in this word... pls stop killing other people’s vibe on motivational quotes cuz e didn’t work for u, it works for some atleast till they are fully out of depress states of mind...
