Bro I tire o. The idiot refused to wait for traffic light. I didn't even see him at all. Before I parked to check, he has zoomed off. Kinda downcast now

I was about asking how this people sleep at night a day before yesterday. I don't think an average dispatch rider go a day without denting someone's car. They now have this habit of not stopping, look the dent and just zoom off and it's crazy how they gather once one of them have score to settle.

Everything you guys(Yourself and Mr CheerfulGiver) have said is the truth. Let me briefly give my experience in regards to rental.

A "friend" provided the first car I drove on bolt. We had a verbal agreement- weekly remittal was 15k but I take care of all repairs. And whenever I took the car for repairs, I don't remit. So I started work. After being on the job for some weeks, I noticed that it paid better than the profits from my other business but in tandem with salary, so I decided to buy my own car. But before I'll do that, I opted for upgrading my friend's car because I noticed that other drivers with upgraded cars had more offline jobs.

I bought leather seat cover, headrest TV and changed foot mats. Note that he's mechanic was in charge of repairs. So one day, he called asking why I added those features to the Corolla and I told him that I just wanted to stand out from the regular cars. Dude didn't say anything. Some weeks later, he called pleading that I should help him provide the Car's spare tire to the wife ( she had a flat tire while driving home). Well that was the first time she saw the car in months. Now, just two weeks later, my pady called and complained that the 15k remittal was peanuts. He wants 30k. I said that this was only possible in Lagos ( I live in the FCT). After much back and forth, we agreed on 20k( note that he hasn't asked to see the car).

Well, unfortunately for me, I had bought alloy wheels( a fatal decision as you would see later). As usual, my friend's auto tech fix it up and he keeps the damaged/replaced item for my friend(owner). Just two days later, owner called complaining bitterly about the adjustments to the car. Amongst all he said, the statement he made which stuck in my mind was " Abi, you wan take style collect the car from me?" Let me not say how hurtful I felt regarding that statement. I drove for some days but I wasn't myself.

After much deep thought and consideration, I decided to return the car without taking as much as a pin out of it. My exact words amongst others were " this one when you talk say I wan collect your car, I know say you and your wife Don talk about the matter. And if anything happen to you, your family go come say na me kill you. You and me Don know tye tye. Me and you no how we take hustle before we fit reach were we dey so but for you to talk dis kain......."

He did call severally but I just ignored. That experience made me more determined and I got my own car some month's later( I'm even trying to get another one). But do you know that I was told later that it was the wife's brother that started using the car?

At times, I blame myself that I invested too much on a car that wasn't mine but I had a purpose for it. Personally, I believe that if you want to make more money, you will need to spend money. I had plans and Good intentions for the car too but people will always be people. So, Your advice and that of Mr CheerfulGiver are top notch.

Well, u did this out of a pure heart and u didn't grudge or hate after the episode so u will definitely get your reward.
But I keep saying if u r on rental, don't do jack in terms of investment or asset improvement. Repairs should not be more than tyre puncture or very minor 5h or 1k fixes.
I am not the owner of the car, so why will I be fixing someone else's car? Provided driver is not culpable in the damage, owner should repair, service and maintain his property.
Some owners use low rentals and lure drivers to do repairs and drivers jump on it, then later they will start complaining about multiple repairs.
Beyond losing out when car is retrieved, some partners will not be comfortable with driver adding features to the vehicle. Some things make d car look ugly when they r worn-out or cause scars when removed.
For me, I maintain all my cars 100%, just call and tell me what's wrong and I am fixing it immediately.
Also my mechanic knows the repair history of the car, so when a driver leaves my car is not alien to me.
Drivers have to also protect themselves before you will do something then when a bigger thing spoils, owner will say it's that thing u did that caused it.
Like a story of a driver who does servicing as part of the deal. He drove the car for like 6months. Few days after the regular servicing the engine knocked. That's how owner said he used cheap oil filter and that's why his engine has knock. So he should replace his engine.
So u see, this deal of driver doing certain repairs is beneficial, exploitative, and taking advantage for owner. But dangerous, unwise and risky for driver.

My brother, all you said is true. Whether it's HP or rental, drivers are at loss and That's why I've always emphasized the need for each individual to determine what's best for you and the job. The experiences we provide is for people learn from the mistakes.

I don't know much about psychology of riders in Lagos but here in the FCT, believe me when I say if your car isn't the Corollas and Camrys of 2006-2012 and it's has unique features, the majority of your rides will be completed largely offline. In fact, riders book you and I'm sure you know what it means. Corollas and Camrys have little or no respect to riders except you do an upgrade. Moreover, the upgrades are benefits for the owners.

There are details I didn't provide here but be rest assured that my friend had no intention of creating problems. Be honest Mr Pearl, if you have a driver that pro-actively maintains your car properly, tells you that he would undertake a large chunk from the cost of an upgrade of your car, pays your remittance when due, will you take that car away from him? If you will, well I won't. It's difficult to get selfless drivers like that. Do you know that he had to sell that car because his brother- in -law nearly rendered it useless?

And I have no regrets. I believe that if you do good even in bad situations, good must find you later. The wife pressured the husband to retrieve the car but today, na my second car I wan buy. At times, na owners dey make drivers wicked.

There you have it.

They didn't touch your tip and bonus.

You made 30.2k gross.
The tip and the campaign bonus made it 31k+

Check the image below.
What they charged you as commission is just 20% of the 30.2k gross.
They didn't touch your tip.

No be lie. Some drivers are the ones making these riders think sey dem get power.

One rider booked me this evening. Getting to PU, I tired calling her but number not available. Meanwhile she was outside looking at my car. There were many of them there. I used inapp call too, no response. Mins later she came close to my car and started abusing me for not calling her.
I tried to maintain my cool. Showed her the no of times I've tried calling her. I asked why she too didn't call. She began schooling me on why only drivers MUST call. I jejely asked her to get out my car. The thing pain her o. But I no care. Twas even an opportunity for me to go eat.
We should stop taking shits from these riders guys.

This part can be very very difficult. Sometimes I ask some riders if it makes them feel good being rude. Like if there's some kind of satisfaction they derive from being condescending towards another person.

There you have it.

As u can see, if they deducted commission on the Gross, Net would have been N25,256.

But they deducted ur tip and bonus earnings from the gross before calculating and deducting commission.
Here
31,570 - 500(tip) - 870(bonus) = 30,200
Commission 20% of 30200 = 6,040
Net = 30,200 - 6,040 = 24,160
Now add ur tip and bonus back
24,160 + 500 + 870 = 25,530.
That's ur money there complete.

Not many people have ur mentality...
Some things are just constants, if u have a good heart with the right attitude, u will make progress in life.
People that feel entitled and bear grudges are always weighed down and retrogress without knowing the cause.

The bolded is what I find amusing with your comment.

Because it's rented, does not mean one should add improvements or fix it to his taste. I don't see it as loss, because even if I didn't use the money to fix the car, I would still use it for something else. Money comes and goes. What matters is what you put it into.

I'm sure pleasureosondu has moved on, and the hurt of what he spent is over. But what won't change is the perception his friend now has about him. It's a mark he will never forget, something money can't buy

When I drove, I have left music CDs, footbrushes, car chargers, tissue boxes and even 2k air fresheners in the car. I used to change bearings of hubs with my own money, even though I knew it was his responsibility. As long as I know I can make my money back soon, I did it. I don't take anything out. I see it as a way of showing gratitude to the car for the friendship we had (I usually give any car I drive a name) grin

So, my friend, don't discourage people from doing good even when it's not their responsibility. There are blessings from nature attached to it.

Apart from that, you have typed well smiley

Sure sure there are blessings. I agree.

From owners perspective:
Some drivers do improvements and want to use it as a form of right or as blackmail. Some drivers do shaby and poor jobs at repairs.
So from my experience, I don't allow it.

From drivers perspective:
Owners take advantage of drivers, pass on responsibilities and exploit them.

So to avoid all these, I say stick to the agreement/contract. If u agreed to do it, or u do it out of ur own volution, then don't compalin tomorrow.
Am saying this because some guys here are fond of coming to tell us how they did xyz in d car and owner did not appreciate and still collected his car. Or how they used all their savings to b repairing car for owner that's why they haven't had money/savings to buy their own.

Truth is people that are matured will always act matured. I know people that will come and be complaining bitterly to us about what they have done in each of the cars they have driven and owner did not appreciate. I will be embarrassed if someone that drove my car did that. So I just try to avoid that kain thing.

But let everyone satisfy his/her conscience sha. If u want to do, do but don't come and complain that owner is wicked etc. At least if u didn't do anything, then u will not have grounds to call owner wicked.

Life, If the landlord is nasty, I go comot all fancy switches, chandelier grin and put what I met. But if nice and understanding I can even put tiles and pop without collecting balance.

But before I do any improvement, I still need permission from landlord. Because when I leave he will be responsible for the maintainance of that improvement. Or if it is to be removed it might damage his structure.

That's my own perspective.

Bolt charges you 20% commission on all your trips, even when they give 5% commission bonus.

They'll charge you 20% and add 15% of it to us as campaign bonus.

Expenses = Bolt's commission.

Points noted and That was why I've always said decisions must be made according to circumstances. In my case, it was just a verbal arrangement and I kept mine. But in the case where there's a written contract and a driver is OK with what the terms, then no problem.

But we all know that a contract will be activated if certain term aren't met.
This means that the priority of both driver and car owner is the functionality of that car or no money/remittance. Therefore, ensuring that the car is in proper shape is the responsibility of all. For me, if a driver does some form of verifiable repairs on a partner's car, it is reasonable for that owner to reciprocate. Remember that if the car isn't in order, neither you as owner or driver will make a penny out of it. Or will you like it if he keeps coming to you for minor repairs all the time? As owners, a fair decision is needed. If owners are rigid in decision-making and focus more on the terms of a contract, they should be ready to change drivers regularly.

And drivers sef, make una no dey abuse certain privileges Wen owners dey give. Some will lie that they are ill whereas they are at work and lots more. There's a close relationship between a partner and a driver. The actions of one determines the reaction of the other, either positively or negatively.
