When we used to play mocking post back then. Some of us were never good enough for any set.

So our only hope was playing a smaller ball behind the pitch. Maybe Felele or something . After the playtime, both us and people who played in different sets would sweat, but we didn't really participate in the important game

In my former place of residence we used to play Saturday morning 6 aside set with one goalkeeper. The set starts 7am but before 7 all players must have conveyed, get drafted into a team and then wait for their turn to get on the field.

Some egbons don't always get selected not because they are late but because of their zero footballing skill/knowledge....so as we play they just keep training, knocking the ball around in some unused part of the field.

For someone like me who gas out easily on the pitch, once I see my team is up by a goal or two and the time is running down, I will call one of those ègbón to replace me....The joy on their face alone is a sight to behold .... Unfortunately Boateng is not as lucky as those ègbón now sef

Defenders are not like forwards. A good defender does not become useless early. Defending is based on intelligence and positioning and old age is where we separate the good defenders from the pace merchants.

Terry, Silva etc are good defenders and their intelligence and positioning carried them into their late thirties. Boateng was just a pace merchant who was proven to be positionally and intelligence deficient as soon as he lost his pace, that's why he became useless at 30.
