This is still at the expense of the poor masses as you only end up enriching the corrupt government.Agreed we have less medical personnel with regards to standard however the issues at stake is poor work condition plus infrastural deficit. If the government provides better remuneration and improve overall work condition we will at least have retention of some of these personnel......your assertion though brilliant does not solve the problem and would only make it worse especially for an average Nigerian

Doctors can be the new source of foreign exchange if the govt can look deeper.
Every year in the universities more than enough qualified students for medicine are forced into other departments because the quota for medicine is 150 at max.
You'll see people with hyper impressive grades forced into other departments..
It won't take much for the FG to invest in the medical sector and improve the quota of every universities to 500.
That way we'll have much more exports and also more private hospitals at lesser rates.

Some Nigerian Doctors and money smh all they care about is the money, they hardly care about human lives. Just look at what they are shedding tears of joy for now money, not the lives they have saved so far in Saudi Arabia. Dem dey rush go Saudi Arabia because of money a country that will seize your freedom. The funny thing is that even the non Muslim Nigerian doctors are also going to Saudi Arabia. Smh

Now I Hope all Nigerians can Understand how useless this government is, that you have a President who never for one day through out his tenure, Visited a hospital in the country he is ruling. and the so called aspiring president never visited a hospital in the country he intends to rule.

I Hope all Nigerians now understand the consequence of selling their vote and supporting evil and worthless people. look at all the problem we have been facing and how many people we have lost in the past 3 years as a country all because of the greed and selfish interest of our politicians. I wonder when we as citizens will take back power from this worthless people and start changing our country.

I hope you would apply that sentiment to all Nigerians willing to check out. They too should stay in the country, and not go abroad....

After all, sauce for the goose....plus Nigeria needs everyone...

Agree with you, but then how do you propose that any new government we vote in raises the money to pay doctors decent salaries.?

Wicked government
Who is this government everyone is talking about?
Is it still not people like you and I that is running it?
Like some people have said earlier, we deserve the kind of leaders we get. If they turn out to be wicked, that means that we are of a truth, wicked people. The people in our government didn’t fall from the sky.
2023 is around the corner now and one of the projected presidential hopeful has been in a London hospital receiving treatments for months now.
What makes us think that this individual will ever in his life work for the betterment of the health sector or any sector for that matter “when/if” he gets elected?
Which sector is performing the way it should in this country with all the resources we have?
We know what our problems are, and we know the solutions to them as we have to personnel to execute the solutions BUT we do not have the will power and the sincerity to do that.
Our Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, when he was the acting president moved to sanitize this country but we all saw how he was bamboozled from all angles and Buhari had to horridly come back to continue his shambolic show of leadership. Since then, have you seen Osinbajo perform any important government duty except making cameo appearances here and there?

We are our own problem and not some “invisible” government per say.

Why will the selfish ruling class be bothered They shamelessly travel abroad with their family for treatment at the country's expense. Tell me how they and their generations yet unborn are not accursed.

Nigerians have always blamed the government because it is easier to do that.

Blaming ourselves means taking on the stress of making a change...which most of us don't want to do.

This thread is filled with people like you who keep regurgitating on the backward argument that would-be emigrant Nigerian doctors receiced subsidised education which is not entirely true. Medical courses in most public universities are not as heavily-subsidised as you all are making it seem. Infact, the average tuition-fee for medical courses is around 150k,which is much to ask from students whose sponsorers are mostly the working class. And just before you reply angrily like a tiger, you need to know that university students in KSA have access to not only free education but also free learning materials, which your deeply-currupt and useless goverment can only dream of providing.

So Nigerians are not lazy too, you run to people's country for better economic opportunities and you call them lazy. Mental laziness is worse than physical laziness, you know?

Its simple, we have to vote in only Qualified Candidates by looking at their past records of what they did while in power, Doctors are not the only professionals that need decent salaries, every other profession needs a decent and minimum salary cap.

If we vote in responsible, young and qualified candidates we wont be having this much issues in the country.

The only way a sane and sound leader would be able to keep Nigerian doctors in Nigeria is by paying them a decent salary

And the funds for that would have to come from raised taxes, and raised income nationally

We don hear, no be only Doctors dey for this country, some are doing as if they were forced into the profession. Don't try to compare those countries to Nigeria, they are getting cheap labour from us because it costs less to train a Doctor in Nigeria with many of them on state governments scholarship than in those countries rushing them.
you're heartless.im not even sure you're human.so you want doctors to be working under toxic conditions with little or no facilities and plenty of work pressure and insults and to make matters worse they have to beg for ₦5k for job hazards

Not only that they have to work like elephants and eat like ants with loans they have to use to pay their childrens school fees and other issues.you don't have a soul.i am sure you are related to Bubu because you have similarities in being wicked, inconsiderate and unfeeling

When bubu was sick why didn't he go to Luth? Why did he travel out?

Goddddd!!!! You're so vile

Remember, Nigeria's GDP is 2000 dollars per capita, Saudi is over ten times that.

Yeah, a US resident is paid well.

But the fact is a Nigerian IMG (International medical graduate) arriving in the US for residency does not have the burden of college loan debt that his US colleague has...that's why they can afford nice stuff...

(Though it costs a lot of money to pass US licensing exams, and to get the visas...and that includes travelling costs.)

I’m happy you’re aware of the costs. Not only the US. It even costs more to go to Canada to practice medicine if one is going through the residency route.

Don't be ignorant and unfortunate, if someone lives Nigeria doesn't mean the person should forget everything about Nigeria, Its only a selfless and foolish person that will do that, if someone lives Nigeria to better country it even bring more of your attention back to Nigeria because you realize how much that needs to be done to improve the country. Like i said its only a foolish person that will forget where he came from.

Also Living and working in a different country as an immigrant doesn't mean you will be treated badly, Most times you get to understand how tough life can be in the western world, and you still get the same treatment as everybody else.

I'm not an economist but I believe in Nigeria our biggest asset is our human resources, if the government can invest in various infrastructures in different sectors to boost our manpower and grow our domestic industries to the point where we can export products and expatriates to the world, In almost every country you go to today, you will find Nigerian professional in different industries,( medicine, engineering, IT, Construction etc ) that is tell you how intelligent and hardworking we are compared to a lot of countries,

so I believe the next government should focus on growing and improving our human resources and industries so we can have more export ( products and services) to the world. Nigeria should be very much similar to China
