It's a good thing u said u personally know the boy. Please do try furnish us with updates cos seeing so many helpless hopeless situations like this is so very distressing and heartbreaking. I don't need anyone to tell me this is a clear case of a Nigerian institution oppressing someone trying to make a justified claim out of them due to negligence and incompetent.. But as usual they would use thr state/govt. might in their favour to stifle such persons that dares.. This is why there is so much injustices thrives in this country and it looks like we have no single justice system to help the common man. It's such a shame.. Nigeria is such an Irony and a huge crime scene

And it keeps getting worse because we keep staying quiet about it. Anyway, I'll keep you updated. I hope he is vindicated

I believe the boy . JAMB has become so porous that once they can't understand how you were able to score 300+ ,it is regarded as "examination malpractice ". And this is very bad since it discourages the brightest from studying

Even after the boy's confession, you still chooses to believe a lie. Na wá for your reasoning pattern oo

they shouldn't have allowed you into the hall for the exam. the rules are always there. no phones

7victor:
It is like what happened to me when I was doing MSc.

I put my phone on a wall close to where I was writing the first semester exams.

One external supervisor came and asked who got the phone.

I foolishly said it was my phone.

He then turned the back of my exams card and showed me where it was written that students should not so much as come into exams hall with phone.

All my 5 courses of the first semester were cancelled and I was asked to write them again.

That automatically meant my set passed me and I had to write the courses with a new set of students who would be admitted the next year.

It was one of the worst things to happen to me academically.

I wrote the courses the next year and scored "A"s in all the courses.

The previous ones I wrote,I didn't score as good as these last ones.

But guess what: After my external examination, when I was about to collect my statement of result,I discovered the school was using the scores for the exams they cancelled, and not the second scores which were the authentic ones and which would have made me have a first class.

The scores for the exams they cancelled are the ones that are used in my MSc transcript.

Just because they don't want me to have a first class in my MSc

Nigeria has not been fair to a lot of people, which is why many people are somehow ready to believe a young man's lies against JAMB rather than believe the truth , that he forged his results.

I guess that what can be said from this thread is that Nigerians are always ready to believe they are opressed. There is great power in believeing that one is oppressed, that one is the victim. It kind of absolves you of blame, that it isn't my fault.

The problem is, that kind of thinking provides opportunities for people to be lazy, and to accept the testimony of liars.

An example of this victim thinking in mind was seen in a case some years ago of a pregnant woman who blamed OAUTH for casuing the loss of her babies, and for making her have kidney failure. Eventually the truth came out...the woman had been warned that she needed a Caesarean...but she opted to go to a prayer house when she went into labour, and naturally had complications which by the time she got to hospital...the baby was dead and there was organ failure. In essence, the doctors had to do some lifesaving surgery. She survived.

But to blame herself for not listening to her doctors, that's painful. So, she blamed the hospital. And most Nigerians believed her. Because we all know of that patient who died because of 'doctor negligence'..and we are so angry about it, and we feel weak and helpless...that we would rather blame the oppressors than ourselves.

A lot of students fail JAMB because they don't learn how to study, which is something schools, and even children's organizations should take time to teach kids how to do. Some fail because they don't take advantage of the materials they have...and the Internet is a very very veritable fount of knowledge. Some fail because of not being serious enough. But it is too painful to admit one's shortcomings...because , as even I know from personal experience, admitting shortcomings means that you are...in essence...to blame. That's a blow to the ego.

So, the fact is , the boy failed JAMB thrice. He had three opportunities to find out about his shortcomings, and address them. Instead he blamed everyone but himself...and that led him down the path of lying. And that , my friends, is why we should find time to address our shortcomings and take the blame when we err. Which is why ,even with the lying appearing proven, I am ready to accept that the boy might have told the truth...if it is proven with documentation and evidence, that his results were altered.(A shortcoming of the me too movement is that it has given opportunities for people to lie. And since they are mixed up with those who actually tell the truth, it leads to uncomfortable situations when they are proven to be lying. Tares among the wheat, eh)

But if Chinedu has failed...he should then accept he has failed, and then address his shortcomings. Being brilliant does not mean you are infallible, and that you can never fail. As Pele once said...the minute you start believing that you are 'too good', you get lost.

How do you arrest a young boy who was speaking out for his right? Hereby, discouraging others to stand up for the right causes next time.

After his release, they should be sued again for double damages. This time N5billion. Great article,

I wouldn't blame you for having this view. We won't understand how it feels until it happens to us or someone close to us and I'm sure that with this country is going, I'm sure this injustice would get us one way or the other if it's not addressed. I'm not asking you to believe that he didn't forge the result but at least keep an open mind and give him the benefit of the doubt. You don't know the entire story so don't be quick to make judgments because anything could have happened.
There have been incidences of people being forced to admit to a crime they didn't commit. It's not new. It's not also new that results can be forged, I'm not ruling out that fact. But if he did, does that also mean that others who had multiple results also did. They're just not speaking out and I won't blame them. Edu's crime was speaking out in a country where injustice is swept under the carpet.
But I don't support that 1billion part sha. He should have just asked for his results and let jamb keep their stinking money.
And please he didn't fail jamb.

So, where is the proof, documentary or electronic, that he has a case?

The thing is, this kind of case runs on evidence. And the available evidence, for now (unless he proves otherwise) shows that he is lying.

If I accused you of being a thief, without proof, and everyone has to believe me because you are in a position of power, and I am a weakling...presumably...that is still lying.

At any rate, he has admitted to lying. Maybe when he comes back from this, and you guys meet up, he could explain better.

As for me, his story began to break down when he claimed he passed JAMB at 306 the second time, yet did not get admission to UI to read medicine because he did not have further maths. That cannot be possible. Further maths is not needed to read medicine. So, either he was lying about that score...or he was using fake results then.

Being brilliant does not mean success in exams.

You can call me an opporessor, and you can abuse JAMB...but until the guy brings verifiable proof...he has no case. If we allow his accusations to stand, we open the door to allowing people to make allegations without proof...and that takes us down a very dangerous road

To quote a famous drama

.Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat?

This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast — man's laws, not God's — and if you cut them down — and you're just the man to do it — do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?

Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake

This country is headed nowhere. I know this guy in person. He attends the same lesson as me although he later started teaching maths and physics. He even taught me physics for this year's jamb. He's not just good, he's too good. Edu is the definition of intelligence
This is not the first, not the second but the third time jamb is doing this. This year's own was just the height of it.
How can you keep denying a student his real score? Is that how much of a joke this country takes the future of the youths?
I'm not even talking about how bad this year's jamb was. You would check your score this minute and see one thing only to check the next minute to see another thing. Is it that they are using us to catch cruise or what?
When we heard this news at our lesson center, we were shocked because when he came on Tuesday, he told us that they were going to Abuja to defend the results only to hear now that he is in police custody for manipulation of results. What stupid manipulation?
They have turned the whole story upside down just to shut him up.
For his father to sue the court means that he his confident that he can defend the results. If Jamb says he was involved in malpractice, let them give him another exam to write because I'm confident that he would smash it. Just that our system is already corrupted, they might decide to manipulate it again. Infact, I'm just vexed right now. Personally, I feel Edu is too good for this trash we call country. Let them just release him for us. Person we God don bless, Jamb no fit stop am. After dem go say the youths are lazy, the youths are not reading but just look at what they are doing to someone that deserves it. How will this encourage people to study now? Even me here, I am totally discouraged and disappointed with this country. I just tire for Nigeria

Why double scores from the onset?

Who issued the first and second?

If the guy fabricated the second as alleged, the document can be scrutinized with tools and software to know the database it emanated from.
This is a simple case, jamb and good forensic lawyers know exactly what to do unless they just want to intimidate the boy.

Factually and Objectively I would say that the onus is on the young man to prove his case.

Emotionally I do not believe him and I will say what many people are thinking

Why are Ibos coming out to support the boy because he is Ibo.

That is shameful

The reality is that from the story in that report there is no reason to believe the boy. The best we can do is give him the benefit of doubt and opportunity to provide evidence of his claim
S far I have not heard any evidence and it looks like he is up against it.

It is difficult to understand why JAMB would deny anyone their rightful result

What JAMB have alluded to is that there appears to be a result racketeering syndicate INSIDE JAMB and JAMB needs to get its house in order. That is the angle from which I see this issue and not one of any victimisation. That victimisation theory is difficult to belief
