But along the line, I got a job with a big agricultural establishment affiliated to a multinational agricultural firm and I’m being offered N259k for a start excluding other benefits such as airtime(15k) which is different from my main salary.

Also note that the N259k is gross so my take home could be around N230k or thereabouts.

Now here’s the challenge. This new job is in Kaduna(the state capital) and I’ve not been to kaduna before. So, house what do you think about this. I need your candid, sincere and factual advice on this matter.

Have you thought of how to cope when you get there since you have no one there? Which makes it even more difficult getting a place and easy to fall into wrong hands.

Just stay put where you are.

My opinion is very simple. Safety first I prefer a 1naira job in ibadan than 1milliion pay in the north . I am a realist....I don't deceive myself . The north is invested with bomoharam and kidnappers ...I love myself . Everything is not all about money safety first .

Go to Kaduna my brother. Kaduna and Kano is the hub of business development and operations in the North. Ibadan is sitting on old glory of days past, I am a yoruba man but Oyo state is light years behind Kaduna state in terms of services and job. If not for Lagos, Ibadan wouldn't be how it is today. If Ibadan could pick up it should have done so by virtue of it's closeness to Lagos but the other Southwest state is really making it difficult but Kaduna, except for the insecurity is a really developed city and ancient too.

Also understand that 75% of anything produced or imported to Nigeria is sold in the North. Apart from Ibadan and ogbomoso I'm not sure there is any other city in Oyo state that can boast of economic activity...I stand corrected.. but in Kaduna you have cities like Zaria, Kafanchan and Kaduna North especially is a hub of economic activity on it's own. You said 75% of goods produced or imported in Nigeria is sold in the North, you have forgotten that more containers of imported goods from seaports in Nigeria enter Oyo State than Kaduna and Diesel and petrol consumption is high in Oyo State despite the high presence of Federal government institutions in Kaduna.

For Agricultural related job, the guy can go to Kaduna and be very careful, otherwise, jealousy and office politics can make him a victim of bandits. Agriculture is booming in the North because Federal Government pumped Agricultural development budget there. OLAM is there. TOPFEEDS (largest feedmill in Nigeria ) is at Ibadan but the maize is being sourced from the North. Also, breweries source some of their materials from the North. Most of the FG grants on Agriculture goes to the North. Kaduna has a lot of Federal government institutions which means budget money enters Kaduna through those institutions. That is the military era development politics. Despite the internal crisis in the South West since Awolowo / Akintola era and opposition stance of the South West which stagnated development for decades, Banking and Telecom transactions in the South West alone accounted for 50% or more of total transactions in Nigeria. There are more industries at Ibadan than Kaduna or Kano. Federal government money through FG MDAs , particularly Defence and Agriculture is very high in the North. This is corruption and easy money which is being targeted by Bandits and Boko Haram terrorists. It is because of FG money going to the North that they are afraid of Oduduwa Republic and restructuring. There are more industries and industrial activities at Ibadan than Kaduna or Kano.

For Agriculture, I will advise him to go to Kaduna. The kind of deals (corruption ) in that environment can never be possible at Ibadan. He will make it easily and faster in Kaduna because corruption is very high. He should avoid North / South political discussion or pretend like my brothers from a region in the South by speaking evil of the South and good of the North just because of money. Avoid Abuja / Kaduna routes at night.

For career development, Ibadan is the best choice.

People who haven't stayed in kaduna won't understand this, is up going to be flying, the airport road sef is a bandit enclave. Even if he flies how much is flight and what's the flight amount difference with the Ibadan salary. Kaduna is bandit enclave all over

I don't see much difference in the salaries if you factor in air fares to the South and the risk of falling victim to bandits. If you'll have to visit farms, your risk doubles. At this point in time, Ibadan is a safer place to be and cost of living is much lower than that of Lagos. Food is relatively cheap. Same for accommodation and transportation.
