report to your landlord or caretaker. Where I live no one is allowed to leave his/her generator on beyond 11 PM. The landlord make it compulsory that every tenant is allowed to switch on generator from 4:pm to 10:30 or latest 11pm, before any tenant rent any apartments there must sign to the rules and regulations.

In all my properties, once it's 10:00pm, all generators goes off.

I told my tenants to buy inverter and solar panels.

Enough of the gen noise and climate change issues.

Before I collect rent, I sound it in their ears.

No pets, no 24 hours generator, no overcrowding of my friend or brother from the village.

The problem was caused by your Landlord, he should have inserted the Clause in the Rent agreement, specifying when and when generators can come on and be switched-off.
I know some Landlords only care about collecting Rent and not about the welfare of their tenants.
Especially where one is located near the Window of another or the space is compact and gives no room for spacing out.

First, explain the issue to your Landlord (You can record the Noise level with a Sound Meter App, inside your own Apartment.
You should also record it with your Phone, with your TV turned to 50% when there is no Generator and when there is his Generator, for good comparisons.

If you dont get a Solution, you can report him to LASEPA (that Environmental Protection Agency, since you say you are in Lagos).
Noise is a Pollutant and it must be minimised.
Depriving someone of Sleep by putting on your Generator into the middle of the Night (without a Muffler!) is considered a form of Torture and is a criminal offense.

Why not go have a friendly chat with him, you just might be surprised to find out that he might have a genuine reason for constantly running that generator. My neighbor runs his generator in the same way, when we approached him we found out that he had to constantly run his generator due to someone with a serious medical condition in that building, at the end of the day we found a solution together, he changed the position of the gen set and used some noise reduction kit to reduce the noise.

The Agency handling this type of case is called LASEPA. go to thier website and make a report... They will surely get back to you. They are very very effective. Nobody has said anything reasonable since. Pls do this and if its extra urgent, just call the Phone number on there..

Why dont you build a sound-proof box for his generator. If you are interested, I could show you how to build a crude one.

Pour salt inside the fuel tank if he refuses to find a solution to it. Or get a bigger gen and send the noise to him too

Because you dont understand that an Inverter, even the Cheap, Home Made one, is far, far cheaper than running a Generator!
It does not need regular servicing and repair like a generator. cost less than 40% to run, compared to a generator, you dont have to go out in the night to switch it off or add fuel and it is NOISELESS.
