A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of
his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.
Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.
As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, ‘What happened here today?’
She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?”
“Yes,” was his incredulous reply.
She answered, “Well, today I didn’t do

Don't mind some men, they think its easy keeping d home sane with kids around

She did well.

Taking care of the house and children is serious work. Some men don't appreciate it. They just come home and everywhere is clean, the children have done their homework, and they are all neat and dressed up. Food is ready and the man just settles in nicely and relaxes.

@bold:

Nice.

She took actionable steps to point her husband's lack of gratitude.

Much more effective than complaining or leaving the marriage to deteriorate due to unresolved issues.

Nice one, this is just a glimpse from a full time house wife, imagine the stress of a working wife without a maid, and YES there are many homes that function well without maids.

Junkie, I did not present a scenerio precisely for you, I presented it to the public, you have taken it upon yourself to make my comment your problem. If you cannot relate my comment to that of Op, I cannot help your comprehension level.

You mean you don’t know what housemaids do?
Is it that you don’t know about them or you prefer the term domestic help? undecided

My question was "for what?" Why does a typical family with two adults in it, need a house maid for? I look at the average Oyinbo household, and I wonder if Nigerians are simply lazy even in marriage . undecided

What about if they both worked?

We don’t have to compare our households to the oyinbos, ‘cause I doubt they compare their lives with ours.
Life as an average Nigerian is already hard as it is.

The average Oyinbo couple, both of them working, don't even consider having maids. They both bear responsibility for the upkeep of home and child rearing duties and they plan their lives accordingly. Family helps where possible but that is about it for a majority of them . undecided

An average single Nigerian who works does not need a house maid, hard as life in Nigeria may be. So, I just don't see the logic behind needing to obtain one because one is married. undecided

If reverse should be the case now, what's the likely scenario going to look like uhn undecided..imagine a husband curled up in bed all day in his pajamas,I don't want to even give such marriage a thought

Although this thread is about men's ingratitude which in some cases is true n understandable

When average Oyinbo couple can afford a washing machine, a dryer, a dish washer, a vacuum cleaner, a microwave oven and the likes, with constant electricity, so it makes (planning) their lives easier.
Now, that is not the case for an average Nigerian (earning) couple with children, as having those machines running in your home would cost you an arm and a leg.

The average oyinbo couple cannot afford all you have listed there at all. And the electricity bill, and the cost of running all those machines in one home ain't that cheap at all. undecided

I grew up in a home with 2 working parents and 6 kids, and we never had need for a household, there in that same Nigeria. undecided

According to what they portray (in movies, series...), I think they do.

Were you all always grown?
Were you all never children? If you were, how did your parents cope? It must not have been easy...

No they don't and don't blame the movies at all cause the average situation is never ignored even in many of the same movies you speak of. undecided
Don't get me wrong here... I am not saying that life fr the average couple is a shity one. No, it is not. However, it is simply not dependent on the luxuries for its running either. undecided

Obviously, I was not born a grown up and my siblings weren't either. My mum and dad took care of business and family helped some when they were over. undecided

Well, help from the occasional visitor does not in any way compare to having a permanent household, does it now? undecided

So a cousin who visits for 2 weeks and babysits for some hours, is the same as a housemaid who take care of all chores and childcare all year round? undecided

grin I'm actually a very lively nice person offline, but this place can bring out the witchery in someone, literally.

That moniker has always had it in for me, he/she goes about poking people by asking ridiculous questions just to see one's level of testiness/patience, especially when he/she uses " undecided" in every comment, like what the hell is that for
