How Akunyili, Eight Others Were Killed In Onitsha by NGpatriot: 4:32am On Sep 30, 2021
DETAILS have emerged of how Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late director general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and later Minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili and eight others were slaughtered on Tuesday night at Nkpor, a suburb of the commercial city of Onitsha in Anambra State.

It was gathered that unknown gunmen had opened fire in the usually busy area at a time Akunyili was returning home to Enugu after receiving a posthumous award by the University of Nigeria Alumni Association on behalf of his late wife at the All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha and he, his driver and police orderly were caught up in the shooting

Akunyili left immediately after receiving his wife’s award and was seen off by his son, Obum who also attended the ceremony. They took the old Onitsha –Enugu road only to meet their death at Nkpor Those at the vicinity said the gunmen were probably attracted to his vehicle by the policeman sitting in front of the car and then opened fire on the occupants
.

According to the eyewitnesses, it was possible that the gunmen did not know the identity of Dr Akunyili at the time he was shot. They also said that the gunmen cut off the heads of three of their victims, before speeding off in a waiting vehicle.

The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Tony Olofu has assured the people of the state on the commitment of the command to ensure public safety.

In a press statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO,, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Olofu who has visited the scene of the incident for on-the-spot-assessment called for collaboration between the people and the police to fish out bad elements in the state.

While not specifically speaking on the killing of Dr Akunyili, Ikenga’s statement read: “The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Tony Olofu has today 29th September, 2021, observed with grave concern, the series of security breaches that have taken place within the state and has therefore ordered tactical Commanders of the Command to immediately put an end to the madness.

“He gave this order when he led senior police officers from the command on- the-spot assessment to the crime scenes.

Addressing reporters at the Palace of the traditional ruler of Agulu, Igwe Innocent Obodoeke, Obi said described Akunyili as a nice person.

He said: “Chike had always lived his life well. Nobody can explain how our society had degenerated to this level.

“I was with his son at the mortuary for identification of the body and I have spoken with his first son, also a medical doctor, who is abroad. We also visited the police station at Ogidi where his corpse and those of eight others killed on that spot were taken.

“He was a gentleman. He can’t do wrong to anybody. He just lived his life. He was always happy with himself. I am shocked that this happened to him.

“It was not long Prof. Dora Akunyili died and now the husband has joined her under this terrible circumstance. It is too early for their children to become orphans.

“ It was in the morning that the chairman of Agulu Caretaker Committee called me and narrated what happened to Dr. Chike Akunyili. It was terrible that such a nice man should die in this manner.

It is baffling to hear about this random killing carried out with such extreme brutality and for no apparent reason. One gets the impression that forces of chaos and confusion have been unleashed in eastern Nigeria in order to lay the groundwork for a full-scale military occupation in that part of Nigeria.

Even though we see people committing sadistic atrocities walking around in broad daylight, they are igbo people with igbo people clapping and cheering them on, they are igbo members of the same communities and known to the same communities so it baffles sane minds how and why the perpetrators are always other forces and not the known forces that you see, clap for and cheer on as heroes.

All this bloodbath by state actors just to discredit the eastern people will be their own undoing. All this incessant attacks has the signature of state agents written all over them and for them to come out to deny being involved lays credence to my ascertion. Igbos can not kill one of their own like this

Its fine that Ipob could deny the killings and distance itself from the heinous act going on in SE region but could they also account for the prisoners they freed?

Some of these people have taken the job of political assassins and serial killers for just 10k

Ipob should take reaponsiblities until they could convince us that those ex-convicts are doing legitimate businesses to survive

sharpsecret:
if FG can capture Fulani bokoharam terrorists and free them on the ground that they have repented....why can't ipob fr3e Igbo people in prison that have also repented,...
ur case is beyond redemption, beast

What don't you get? That outside forces have laid siege on the east? This killings has bandits and herdmen written all over it. Beheading? That the jobs of fula I herdsmen, hired to cause havoc in the east.

At first I have refused to believe late Obadiah malaifiah but now I would be a fool not to.

I watched with extreme sadness, the video that was posted just before this happened of young kids clapping and applauding the Umu aba gunmen working around with guns and looking for security officers to kill. Ndi igbo, how did we get to this level? The same idiots you are supporting today because you believe anything you do in getting your biafra is justified, are the same idiots that will turn around to kill and maim you.

South East has lost so much in this madness. We need to stop this now.

Politician and big men in the east know you can't be carrying Prado jeep, Hilux, sienna or police escort about anymore as they are targets for unknown gunmen.

Study every environment before you go there. Ask questions.

This man could have lived but Nigeria failed him.
It's a pity.

RIP Dr Chike Akunyili

It's high time the people will protest against this unjust killing in the southeastern country, else the region will be destroyed more than the northern region. The northern region has more land, while the SE total landsize is not up to Oyo state

I have long maintained that a terrorist and terror group like Kanu and IPOB are intent on inflicting pain and chaos on the Igbo society in an attempt to enforce the will of the group on the whole of the Igbo society.

This is the same terrorist group that is always laying claim to human rights.

I repeat, who is IPOB to demand anything from the Nigerian government on behalf of Igbos who already have a recognised constitutional and democratic representation within Nigeria?

Why can't the supposedly loved IPOB ensure that it democratically effect a change of leadership such that only Biafran apologists will be in political power in the South East and as representatives at the National Assembly, and from such recognised position of constitutional leadership begin to make demands like the regional governments of Scotland in UK or Catalonia in Spain?

Why do Igbos allow riff-raffs to exploit their tribal hate to assume forceful leadership and determine how they must live their lives?

Like North East like South East, the cycle of anarchy has already started with the tacit support of the same people who would later become the biggest casualty as a refugee society.

Hopefully, the next generation will learn from the folly of the current hate-manipulated generation, and avert further self destruction.

All those killings are being carried out by we igbos in the east.. funny enough, most people are now afraid to speak against it so that they won't be termed sabo and get killed.

Their members are all over FB and twitter shifting the blames to DSs and fulani herdmen
