Hello MackyNaija, I intend going for a PhD in Computational Science & Engineering which is a degree that mainly applies IT knowledge in solving scientific problems in a domain (e.g bioinformatics, geophysics, quant. finance, etc). I'm trying to break out from my field to core tech, but the closest field in IT for me is Data Science. After making a research on Bliπd I discovered that even Machine Learning Engineers earn far less than Software Engineers and other big boys in core tech. What's your advice regarding this path in Computational Science? Predstan:@Predstan I believe you're also majoring in Machine Learning. Is there a particular niche that you're interested in? |

BelieverDE: It’s not true that Machine Learning Engineer earn less. They earn more with experience and move faster in the progression ladder but many are recruited as a software Engineer. My research interests has changed over time towards computational Imaging, Computer Vision, VR/AR. Facebook is recruiting actively in this field as they are setting up a new lab. I guess they have seen the future here. With computational science, your qualifier exams will be coming from Parrallel processes concept and partial differential equation. With Computer science, your coursework and qualifier will be concentrated on Operating system, Theory of Algorithms and Computer architecture. Your research group and dissertation are what matters and you will publishing papers in the same conference and journal as someone who is in a CS program. But truth be told, you don’t do a PhD for the money especially if you are already a working professional. You can literally do some cloud computing courses, or cyber security and start making it big 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by MackyNaija(m): 4:39pm On Nov 07, 2021 |
Limassol:Too many posts and soooo busy doing personal matters but I must reply this post now! After we move into our house, I go set up cctv system like say I be drug dealer... Stayed up late last night checking this : 6x cameras and an nvr system, then add a camera doorbell + Mouton sensing flood lights.. Next na to buy pistol, do plenty shooting range training then by AR15 (looks sleeker than a kalash) Na Texas we deh, I fit buy 10 guns if I want. Then na me go deh perpetrate the gun violence when anybody mumu near my house. I haven't witnessed any, when I went to inspect my Camry before registration in Texas, the inspector had a side arm... open carry pistol.. e sweet me to see... This is Texas and they embrace the Right to Bear Arms. 12 Likes 1 Share |

MackyNaija: With the way the issue is all over the news, one would thought gun violence is widespread in America , but that doesn't seem to be the case... I was surprised when a reditor living in Chicago said he haven't heard a single gunshot in the past 20years. I think it all comes down to where a one lives and the people they deal with. |

It is so obviously you are Conservative by the way you advocate for open arm carrying and your stance against immigrant policies in california. I won't be be surprised if you contest for a political position under the republican party. I believe you're aware that immigrants built America and that's why Democrats believe in giving every immigrants equal opportunity to thrive and succeed in America. Imagine when trump was championing "America first" and your employers only favour USC, you wouldn't have been where you are today. I'm only against immigrants that come into America to commit crimes and that's why Obama gave executive order to ICE to only go after immigrants that commit crime. I still believe believe America is one of the least racist countries in the world when compared to most European countries that favour only their citizens and EU country citizens. You won't achieve what you have achieved in America if you were in those European countries where their policies champions "their citizens and EU citizens first." America is a land of opportunity where immigrants can achieve any level of success and Democrats champions that more than any political party and they work tirelessly to amend the gun laws to curb gun violence. Limassol:This is true as even in my entire stay in the US, I have never heard a gun fired. Dremca:There is a hugeee difference between legal and illegal migration. Every country has laws and these laws have to be followed otherwise there will be chaos. I didn't write the laws that classify people without legitimate visas or grounds for stay as illegal immigrants, every country in the world should strike out laws pertaining to illegal migration, scrap the border officers (including those at airports), then open up their borders and make it a free for all! Immigrants built America so everyone should be allowed to flood in? If it is illegal for Nigerians to fly to South Africa without a visa, why then should it make sense to anybody that the US southern border be overrun by ILLEGALS! It's a law and I didn't write it! Remove sentiments and politics and think about this in neutral light. If given the chance, I'd also like all my families and friends in Nigeria to come to the US tomorrow morning. 3 Likes |

MackyNaija: Without those illegal immigrants, you won’t be where you are today. You being opportune to Mary a USC does not give you the right to reducible illegal immigrants. The so called Trump you support employs lot of Illegal immigrants from Mexico for cheap labor.I have a video to confirm this. Most of the unskilled jobs in America are done by Illegal immigrants.(eg) Construction. In as much they don’t commit crime,I see no reason why they should be condemned. FYI,Donald Trump wife was an illegal immigrant before she meet him and they got married. Some of the top richest Americans today were children of illegal immigrants. 12 Likes |

You have never heard a gun shot since your stay in America but you are advocating for open gun carrying and you also want to buy AR15. You are indirectly "illegal" because you lied to the VO during your visa interview that you would come back to Nigeria to work after your studies, just for you to get your F1 visa but you rather married a citizen and adjusted your status and preconceived intention is "illegal". Please tell me, is telling lies "legal" in America embassy. You would have told the VO that you would adjust your status after your studies so you will completely "legal" by saying the truth. Don't take it personal. Please try not to be too holy while forgetting you have benefitted from such system you are against. MackyNaija: 18 Likes |

signature2012:Nobody is criticizing illegal immigrants.. Who he’s Criticizing is the Californian Government... Californian government offer free/cheap housing + Medicare to illegal migrants while having hundreds of thousands of Us Citizens homeless and paying high health insurance while increasing the tax rate for Citizens so they can do more for illegal immigrants .. California have 20% of the total homeless population.. what are the government doing about it??... I have close friends who have migrated to the USA through illegal migration and I pray for them to Prosper there but I won’t support a government abandoning its citizens so they can do more for Illegal migrants because they want to earn the applause of people as being kind..However I don’t support the Gun Laws in states like Texas.. A weapon that can kill someone easily shouldn’t be easily accessible 2 Likes |

Those same US citizens were once illegal immigrants excepts those born in US. Even those born in US by foreign parents still cheat the system. Imagine, Linda Ikeji's child being born in America but raised in Nigeria but will tomorrow want to be treated better than those you call "illegal immigrants" that's working hard to build America. Can't you see how unfair the system is. Paccus: 7 Likes |
Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by Paccus: 8:46am On Nov 08, 2021 |
Dremca:Bro you are confusing “Illegal Immigrant” to “immigrant” ... Not everyone was once an illegal immigrant.. There are students who go to school in USA, After their schooling they got a job that sponsored their green card, they are immigrants not illegal immigrants..There are thousands of people from South America that are escaping violence and come to a valid POE to claim Asylum and are granted entry they are “immigrants” not “ illegal immigrant”.. Citizenship doesn’t determine if someone is an immigrant or not.. if Macky becomes a citizen tomorrow, he’s still a immigrant.. Even His Kids can claim to be immigrants because we have 1st generation immigrants, second generation Immigrants and Third Generation Immigrants. Linda Ikeji child would be an Immigrant whenever he goes back to the USA.. He’s a first generation immigrant by definition,He’s not an illegal immigrant.. Being a first generation immigrant he can’t contest for Presidency in the United States.. That’s the Law.. it may be unfair but it’s the law 6 Likes |

What can I do to become relevant in term of getting a better jobs. Do I need to go back to school to get an American degree and then start a career from there? What’s your general advice.
