Goodday guys, I just graduated from University with a Bsc in Computer Science. I’m looking for schools that offer course based routes in Computer Science (I don’t think thesis is for me). My CGPA is 4.6 but I’m skeptical because admission is always competitive for Computer science. Is there anything to make my profile stronger? |

LONG POST ALERT!
Hey guys! I got my PPR on the 6th and while I can’t remember my whole time line and all the documents I submitted, I want to tell you my story and hopefully it inspires somebody out there.
I am self employed so I always knew applying as a self sponsored candidate was going to be tricky but I didn’t want to give up on this dream I had. I’ve been following this forum since 2014 when I didn’t even have money to pay for my visa fee talkless of applying for a study permit but I read and kept checking till I could finally afford to in 2017. I put together my first application which was really flimsy and After 3 months I got rejected for mainly financial reasons. I paid my whole tuition but had only N3m left in my account for feeding and accommodation. That was when I learn that as a self sponsored applicant you should have more than you first year living expenses and tuition. While this isn’t a rule, it’s a safe bet.
Anyway business got busy so I decided to use an agent for my next application which was in 2020, mind you I started planning my application in 2019. I got rejected again but this time the reasons didn’t seem to make sense. I submitted my application and paid for my 1st semester tuition and also had N17m in my invested account which was created specifically for my tuition. They said I was going to exhaust my savings and I also didn’t have enough money to take care of my family that will be traveling with me, meanwhile I never said my family would travel with me in my application. My agent thought the response was just really generic and that we should apply for my notes and then do a judicial review if I could afford it.
I thought about my options and decided to go with the judicial review late last year. We got a lawyer and I think I paid about $4000 CAD. The lawyer started the process and in January of this year my agent reached out to me to say they are asking for a settlement and that was what we wanted. They said they would reopen my portal and I should reapply. Meanwhile at this point I had spent a lot of the money I kept aside for school. I managed to raise the money back and reapplied again with the same exact documents but this time I wrote another SOP, explained why I had some lump sums in my account, the lawyer wrote to them and the agent too wrote on my behalf. I submitted my application on the last day of the one month period I had which was April 4th and then the wait began.
I thought I would get a response asap because it was a judicial review but months came and went without a single word from IRCC. My school was resuming in September so I did my upfront medical in august but it was just updated to passed and nothing else. In September I deferred my admission to next year sept since the course I intend to do which is film making only starts in September. After I deferred I went to write IELTs in preparation for my next application because I just felt like my application would be rejected again and I’ll have to reapply so I started putting things in place and also started raising more money in my account for the next one. Moving forward I stopped asking my agent for updates and just moved on with life. I even forget I put in an application for a Canadian visa and started considering the Uk. The few times I also thought about my application I wanted to tell my agent to withdraw it so I can work on another one for some new schools I just applied to. On the 6th of this month I got a call from my agent in Canada saying my PPR just came through. I didn’t even know how to feel, I’m excited but I’m also overwhelmed.
I know this is a long post but it’s just to inspire somebody out there. I am 32, I’m self employed and self sponsored, I only have my WAEC certificate as I did not attend a university and I have applied 3 times to Canada which has been my dream since 2014. I finally got my PPR and I want you to know that if I could do it, you can do it too. I’ll try to share my documents I submitted soon.
Please feel free to ask me any questions. 57 Likes |

I do not agree with you. One of the reasons we are being treated this way is that we do not fight enough, we always leave everything for God when it comes to Visa officers. Have you ever imagined why the Indians are treated a lot better than Nigerians? they fight a lot better and harder than us. Most of us keep quiet and when there is approval, we then jump out to start saying " the grace of God". Most times when people fight these officers with all legal available tools, they do not do it for themselves alone but for others coming behind. We are too self centred in this part of the world. Everything is about me, and me alone. We should change this approach. makano: Hello quin

3rd Floor, Plot, Sterling Bank Plaza, 1083 Mohammadu Buhari Way, Central Business District 900211, Abuja However if it is for Canada passport submission, do not waste transport money to VFS. They have created jobs (to our detriment again) for courier companies. So you literally see a VFS office but next door is a courier, then you pay 4k for the courier to take it to VFS. Ridiculous! Check out Computer Science (Work Term Route) at MUN. It's course-based and has co-op as part of the requirements for degree completion and it's a lil competitive too but your CGPA looks great. The program is focused on people with some experience in the IT industry and are looking to advance their skills. To make your profile stronger, they recommend international applicants upload their GRE test scores. Also, let one of your two references be someone from a professional background (where you've interned or work) that can testify to your computer skills and you can use an academic reference as the second person. In your statement of purpose ensure you highlight your current skills and why the program is very suitable to advance your skills to prepare you for your future career. Fredisbavk: Goodday guys, I just graduated from University with a Bsc in Computer Science. I’m looking for schools that offer course based routes in Computer Science (I don’t think thesis is for me). ManLikeMace: LONG POST ALERT!
Please feel free to ask me any questions. congratulations big man. |
