1) Looking at Ohaneze, what I see is a group of people who have been molded to be reactive to a constitution that hinders Igbo and Southern progress.

2) These guys do not have the drive necessary to mobilize Igbo and Igbo consciousness to realize the Igbo vision.

3) They are more of politicians interested in handouts from Nigerian government than in realizing the Igbo vision.

4) These are people who are too cautious in pushing for Igbo agenda.

The Solution

I think that it will be a good idea for Ohaneze to be replaced or work in tandem with a more visionary Igbo council. This council would be like the Igbo Nze Na Ozo or Umunna that would be selected based on traditional Igbo system. Imagine every Igbo clan/village/community. Imagine having every community select the most competent representative and these now select 200 to 400 men to project the Igbo vision instead of these random Ohaneze who sound more like Nigerian politicians?

I think this is one of the steps required to give the Igbo vision needed thrust.

I just came across a comment by Bkayy regarding the ineffectiveness of Ohaneze Ndigbo even after making this post. This means that I'm not the only one who has noticed this. We can as well see that if they were doing a great job, they could even have been the stabilizing influence on the Igbo vision which they haven't been.

Ohaneze are majority APC politicians. Real Igbo Elders have left the organization in droves.

How do you expect to current leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Ambassador George Obiozor to perform when the process leading to his appointment was hijacked by the current governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma.

That fiasco led to the creation of another faction of Ohaneze Ndigbo been led by Chidi Ibeh.

What I'm saying is that Ohaneze may not be what we need. I see them as a group of people who do not really know what Ndi Igbo want. That they have political inclination and seem to be aligned to the Nigerian concept of politics makes their objective at variance with mainstream Igbo.

I do not believe in Ohaneze. They may have their use but definitely are not representing mainstream Igbo. I think they should be a peripheral organization and not the main group that represent Ndi-Igbo. We need a more realistic group such that represents every Igbo village, clan or community. I think an Igbo council of elders that represents Igbo values is what we need. Ohaneze may still be a political arm but they definitely do not represent the ideals of Igbo

Ohanaeze are not getting it right et al,we the younger generation of Igbos should carry it on our shoulders to sensitize our kiths and kins, across the coastal regions, before the marauding ijaw annexed them.

We need another organization that is serious to work for Ndi Igbo. We should also start working at calling the attention of our people to this. Ohaneze is just like the Ezes that are more interested in financial gains and handouts from the government of the day. A real Igbo organization that represent the interest of Ndi Igbo is what we need and not politicians masquerading as Igbo representatives.

Ohaneze-Ndigbo was never an Igbo patriotic pressure group but a cultural gathering of retirees where elders garther to discuss village meetings.

Modern Igbo need a robust and truly Oha na Eze group that constitutes a gathering of old and young to chart the Igbo cause.

1. A buoyant group led by charismatic and educated Igbos (No to IPOB clowns and MNK disciples).

2. A group comprising all ages, gender and status.

3. Membership should cut across all Igboland (SE, SS, and NC Igbos and those in the peripheral like Igbanke, Opobo, Bonny, etc)

4. The aims and objectives should be:
i. Upliftment of Igbo culture and value system.
ii. The defense and protection of Igbo territorial integrity.
iii. The promotion of history and scientific research in Igboland, (we need to dig past and present history to debunk the fraudulent histories by expansionist tribes around us).
iii. The progress and development of Igboland
iv. The promoting of activities that forsters unity in all Igbo enclaves.
v. To represent and be the political voice of the Igbo people
vi. To fight for Igbo interest in Nigeria and beyond.
vii. To enhance education and economic investment in Igboland.
viii. To push for a united Igbo region in a new South-East zone with all Igbo people (SE, SS, and NC) in it.

This is beautiful. You just preempted me. But let me add that the new group should represent every Igbo clan/village/community. The people know those who will represent their interest best since they know them. How about a collegiate system which would represent every Igbo clan/village. We can ask every village to select one representative. All these village/clan representatives would select people who represent their area. This is how NdiIgbo were organized in pre-colonial times and we had perfect administrative structures.

We can also add the qualification that a clan representative should have such as natural wisdom and ability to read and write. This way, we would have a true Igbo organization instead of these cautious Ohaneze men and the governors that seem to be behaving like Nigeria. Presently, Igbo have no voice. That is why people started listening to IPOB, who I think have done not badly in sensitizing our people. But Igbo deserve something better.

INCORRECT.

These guys do not have the drive necessary to mobilize Igbo and Igbo consciousness to realize the Igbo vision.

THESE ARE MORE EXPERIENCED POLITICIANS THAN OJUKWU AND KANU.

They are more of politicians interested in handouts from Nigerian government than in realizing the Igbo vision.

NO. THEY'RE ONLY BEING CAUTIOUS

These are people who are too cautious in pushing for Igbo agenda,

THEY'RE NOT RECKLESS. THEY HAVE A BIGGER PICTURE OF NIGERIA BEHIND THEM.

SOLUDO-SOLUTION INCLUDE IN THE COUNCIL ALL TRADITIONAL RULERS PAST AND PRESENT AND GOVERNORS WHO HAVE SERVED EIGHT YEARS AS GOVERNORS IN IGBOLAND.
