You showed interest. Then the dude told you that his retainer will be 5k, as 5 thousand naira or am I missing something?

This doesn't look like a scam to me. It looks like someone that wanted to take advantage of someone's ignorance/condition got scammed

Just search for chatinent .. Here on naira land

I suggest that you move on. That amount isn't worth tracking anyone for. You'd end up losing more. The police or any private detective will demand money so it's not worth it. Use the lesson you learnt to your advantage in future.

The way people send money to strangers they met on a faceless forum is mind boggling. A newly registered account for that matter.

Age of the accunt no longer counts. Old accounts are now being sold and hacked into to carry out scam. If someone gives you a mouth-watering offer that's too good to be true, it's most likely a scam. Running a search on the number of the person you're dealing with can also save you from getting scammed. Most of their numbers have been flagged as scam (just as the op did) or added to the scam list. If only Nairalanders can carry out proper due diligence before sending money to online strangers, at least 75% of scams here will be curbed.
