Quality of life or quality of accommodation is a subjective view, not an economic argument. Even the Mayor of Manchester will slap you if you claim his people are doing economically better than Londoners.

I am here just South of Manchester in a detached house with a garden my kids and their friends can play football in does not make me more economically empowered than a guy in a £2m flat in London without a garden.

His flat still has more economic value than my house if he decides to take it to any market in the world. And the minute he decides to move to Manchester and sell his asset in London, he will be next door neighbours with footballers in a mansion

I could afford a house in London but it won't be in the prime area where my kids would go to great schools and have enough living and garden space. It does not matter. Whoever lives there is still economically equal to me.

None of these are economic arguments.

We are back to "Village life is cheaper than City life" or "N200k in Umudike is better than $100k in Yankee" argument. It is a subjective argument, not an economic one.

To a young person, living in a flat in the City may be more enjoyable than living in a mansion in the village. Subjectivity goes both ways, what matters is the value of the asset.
