Burger king has always been my fav whenever I've been out of the country..I've always preferred it to Mcdonalds and the others. I visited a few days back in V.I and was really impressed. I jus can't wait to see how their menu evolves to cater for the Nigerian market

The fat wey thick us finish better pass? undecided

For Pete's sake we still bake cakes using shortening and we deep fry most everything we can. No be dem do that. Rather we should collectively work towards better fat content management instead. undecided

That is where you get it wrong. You see those Western junks, they come with empty calories and no nutrients. angry

Please stop. We have similar foods in our local diets, the most common of which are garri, fufu etc. undecided

Does not eating garri and fufu alone somehow remove from the fact that their nutritious values are near zilch? undecided

A person who for example only drinks soup alone, or maybe with one potato or two, benefits a great deal more in terms of nutrients from eating that than from eating fufu and garri with the same soup. undecided

The truth is they’re hardly eaten alone.

Please, you say that as if our soups are darn so nutritional to begin with. undecided

Anyways, the point isn't a western thing at all. Many of our local foods also provide us no real nutritional value- they are empty calories - but we eat them anyways.

There is a place for all those so-called empty calories in our diets. undecided

They are fermented, that is consolation itself grin

Um.. fermentation is what in fact further strips them of nutrients. undecided

Cassava that is newly harvested is more nutrients laden than the garri finished product. undecided

Which of your soups guarantees this high nutritional content you tout? undecided

See, I am not against our foods in anyway... I just like us to be honest about these things is all. undecided

Kobo, abeg try edikangikong soup, afang soup, or waterleaf soup, then come back make we talk. undecided
Re: Burger King Hits Nigeria by Kobojunkie: 8:05pm On Nov 27, 2021
Let's look at the possible nutritional content of ewedu soup for instance.

The ewedu portion looks like it still has life in it, but the nutrients in the stew have had the life deep fried and cooked out of it. undecided

So apart from the small meat portion, which serves as source of protein, and the green of the ewedu, everything else is probably just empty calories in the plate. undecided

You are right that it depends on how you cook it, but let's also be honest here, we typically cook our soups almost an hour, right? And in time, all water soluble nutrients have pretty much escaped the soup leaving mostly the non-water soluble nutrients. undecided

As a person who’s passionate about Nigerian foods, it is my duty to change your misconception about Nigerian food.

You misunderstand me. I don't have a misconception about Nigerian food, and be sure I know not to cook my soup for 1 hour abeg... in fact, my green leaves go in as I turn the stove off. undecided

However, the vast majority of Nigerians do not cook there foods with a nutrition conscious mindset neither do they properly understand these things enough for you or I to claim all out soups are nutrient laden. undecided
