Good day everyone, please I’m about traveling with my family to Winnipeg, I have some concerns as I have two kids aged 4 and 2. How do I get them into a school or daycare center while I work? Does anyone have an idea of the average cost of kids school fees at Winnipeg?
2. Please what time of sim is advisable to purchase for myself and spouse? Do we get individual SIM cards or we go for a family plan
3. Also has anyone traveled with palm oil? How did you carry it?
4. Are there banks I could open an account with from Nigeria?
I live in winnipeg.
You need to be present physically to open a bank account or you need a physical address in Canada to use online banks such as tangerine.

About the oil, I was called out at Nigerian airport when I was travelling years back

You would also get individual sims. They have different networks such as Rogers, bell, chatr etc

I don’t know much about kids but I am not sure you pay fees der for government schools but you’ll definitely pay for daycare

Hello my people. Please do we have anyone here who intend to travel to canada in February 2022. My mum will be travelling for the first time, she is quite old and i would need help from anyone who is coming over so that she can tag along and probably get some help. It would have been a smooth journey if all these covid 19 travel protocols are not in place. I am here in Calgary. Thanks my people.

For daycare, I searched for a facility closest to my house on Google. Eg, Daycare near me. The ones I called at first dont accept infants, but they referred me to YMCA. Then I Google "YMCA daycare near Me". The first one I saw had a space for my baby. Another helpful tip is this you can find out if your province gives subsidy. With the subsidy, I was able to reduce the amount I paid by more than 50%. I saw some useful info here too>> https://livingincad.com/child-care-in-canada/

You can request for wheelchair assistance so she gets support right from check-in, through security and down to the boarding gate.

Good day everyone.
I have had my PR since 2019, but have finally decided to move to Canada.
I am looking at flat sharing options around the Greater Toronto Area.
I would prefer a two bed house/apartment/condo with 2 baths.
Any help would be massively appreciated. Looking to move early January.

Thanks.

Hi everyone, my family and I landed Ontario few days ago, we are currently in an airbnb and urgently need a place to rent in Ontario. Anywhere in Ontario that is a bit close to Toronto will be ok.

If you prefer Hamilton let me know. I can drop the link here for a modest apartment to check out.

Hi Naijaforeigner,

Many thanks for your time and points raised.
I do appreciate them and will implement.

Point no. 4 is very ingenious.

Naijaforeigner:

First thing I need to tell you is your situation is not that difficult, so don’t let anyone scare you. You are seeing your family soon, stay strong and hopeful.

(1) Your finance has to be strong. You have 3 kids, so you need to show a very strong bank statement that demonstrates you being capable of taking care of your kids and yourself.

(2) if you did not do this in your initial allocation, your wife needs to send you a letter from her school and her transcript in your next application. This will prove she has registered for her courses and fully active.

Also, has she paid her tuition for the session? Trust me, that is also a big factor. If she has not finished paying her fees, please do ASAP and attach evidence in next application.

(3) If your wife is staying in a place that is conducive and can comfortably accommodate you and the kids at the moment, you will need to attach the lease of her current apartment.

Otherwise, you can explain on the same letter stating you will be getting a bigger place once you arrive. Also point out that you have money to pay for the bigger apartment. Your bank statement comes in here.

(4) Your wife needs to get a letter from her school stating the -ve impact the absence of her hubby and her kids is having on her mental strength and adjusting to the new environment. Her Dean or program coordinator can easily give her this letter.

Yes, she thought she could cope without you guys but now the reality set in and she has observed that she needs her family closer to her now than ever. You can add additional details and this will address the non accompanying issue/ concern which the Visa officer mentioned.

(5) Visa officer mentions issue of not finding work to support yourself and kids. This is a valid concern by the visa officer with the growing cases of covid plus the recent Omicron virus. This is why I mentioned earlier, you need a hoooge bank statement.

Showing a hooooooge bank statement will easily take care of this concern.

I will strongly advise it has to be a bank statement that can easily take care of you and your kids for at least some months in Canada. It is important you are specific and very detailed in your LOE.

For example;

On or before your arrival to Canada, you and your wife will get a comfortable 3 bedroom apartment that will cost $1,500
Feeding for yourself, your wife and 3 kids will cost $1,000 monthly.

Total monthly spend = $2,5000

Based on my calculation above, I have $50,000 that will comfortably take care of my wife, myself and my kids on arrival to Canada for X amount of moths and ……..

These visa officers, you need to spell it out for them in such a way that even a lay man will understand.

(6) Visa officer mentions not coming back and other stuff. Do you have properties in Nigeria?

Do you have a land? You will come back and do business in your country. There is always something to do back home, explain.

Explain all of the refusal reasons with a detailed LOE with subsections and you are good.

I know a very close family here in Ontario with 5 kids. Hubby (late 40’s) was the first to come to Canada on study permit. Wife applied to join him with their 5 kids but got refused.
She applied the second time and as I speak, they are in Canada.

As we speak, the family will be getting their PR soon via the TR to PR pathway.

Oh, lest I forget, the wife is a Nairalander.

Happy holidays.

she's not disabled, i just need someone to guild her while navigating through the airport since this is the first time of her travelling. It would have been a smooth travel if the whole new covid-19 test required in the airport and the likes are not required. So i just need someone who can show or tell her how to move around. It will be great if she speaks to a Nigerian.

Wheelchairs are not just for disabled people. With that service, she doesn't have to bother about what gates to go to and all. The airline handles all those. That way, you don't necessarily need her tagging along with anyone.

The Interview Waiver is currently available to those whose Visa expired up to 48 months ago, which means you should qualify. However, this concession will end on the 31st of December 2021, at which time the Interview Waiver may likely revert to 12/24 months post expiration.

Your comment made me laugh..."she's not disabled". The wheelchair would take care of your concerns as duly stated. Safe journey to Mommy.

The best way to get this is through Kijiji, and to be honest most landlords/property managers will prefer you sign the lease contract in person. so maybe consider airbnb for now.

The issue is wheelchairs have a negative connotation in Nigeria, and telling Mama to sit on wheelchair may not be that easy. I am in the same shoes at the moment.

You are right. Infact, if i suggest that to my mama, she will reject it...lol.....I know she's definitely gonna see fellow Nigerians coming to canada on her day of travelling. KLM flight would have been very good to calgary but with the whole compulsory Covid-19 test issue in Amsterdam and PR people having to wait for almost 12 hrs to get the result before they can even hop on the flight to Calgary, i wonder what they will subject people who are just mere visitors, let alone the stress for an old woman travelling for the first time.
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by TheSeventeenth: 5:21pm On Dec 23, 2021
Oh I am actually looking to sign in person.
I was in Toronto for a week sometime in November and I viewed a number of places. The thing is that I couldn't find anything too reasonable with a budget of 1500CAD apart from basements (I wasn't lucky enough to view a decent one btw). Hence my decision to consider the shared space option.
I have tried Kijiji, rentals.ca, torontorentals, condos.ca. There are places for that budget, but not too reasonable.

I would suggest that you find a way to convince her to use wheelchair assistance. The almost 24hrs trip is hectic for even a young person, you don’t want her standing on a queue for hours to get through immigration or walking long distances around the airport.

Another thing is you can pay for airport concierge service for her. I did this for my mom...and there was someone already waiting for her at the airport, who was with her through customs and all... it also includes airport private lounge services. This is more expensive than requesting for wheelchair assistance, though.

I need help!! I have someone in Paris (Charles de Gaulle airport) and he is being told that his student visa cannot be found online so they cannot let him board.
He has his visa and arrivecan receipt and I have just checked his status on the IRCC portal: the visa has not been revoked.
Did anyone have this issue when arriving

If you use test to fly in Amsterdam, results can be gotten in less than 2hrs but be willing to pay more for it. I had to pay €239
