This is where I've constantly disagreed with Goodjoe. You can interrogate the work rate of players like Zidane, Maradona, Ronaldo el fenomeno, Socrates in comparison to today's generation but for their skill, football intelligence and technical ability is still miles ahead of this current bunch for me.

Mujtahida:

He says people like El phenomeno will find it hard to break down defences. I would have agreed if we currently do not have attackers posting double digits goals in a season.

You can call Ikedia a poor player but please don't doubt his running with the ball ability.

Ikedia was good at it that when he broke into the Super Eagles, the likes of Okocha, Oliseh and co used to feed him the ball to make the runs.

He was very good at that. I think one of his runs made CNN goal of the week when he was Ajax.

By the way, I wonder how it was easier in the past means ball watch.

The point is simple, it was easier in the past.
saying it was easy to run with the ball means defenders weren’t doing their jobs or am I missing something? I remember, Ikedia ran with the ball a lot. It was his introduction against Ireland that eventually gave us the equalizer at the U-20 WC in ‘99.

did Son not do this last season?
When I saw that it was ikedia he mentioned, I just let it slide. Wingers have the ability to do all that running with the ball. Players play within a football philosophy that de-emphasizes that kind of football as most of the coaches view such runs as time wasting
This limits the players from making those kind of runs.
Anthony of Ajax can do it
Foden can do it
Salah can so it (and does it)
Leroy Sane can do it
Denis Emmanuel can do it.
Mbappe can do it

Calm down..Bassey hasn't even played yet for us to assess if he can fit in... He was invited for just one window.. His exclusion is not bad...I believe Zaidu and Aina are enough to do the job..
And by the way, who would he dump us for? Italy or England?
He will get his chances soon enough...

CAF didn't request for a 40 man list... They said countries can name a 40 man provisional sqaud... Most countries just submitted their final list... 2 weeks camping is too short to observe 40 players...Best to cut down to the final list..

The purpose of the 40 man list is to enable a team to replace an injured player before they kick the ball.

even for the 80s/90s maradona was a lazy player, a typical South American player. They just want to make money, party and womanize.

Ikedia actually started the Ireland game. He was a key player on the team. What I am saying is that defenders are more tactical and fit now than before. So it is more difficult to skip past players today than it was in the past.

This rubbish is why Eze has refused to play for us after hitting camp. You get a player like Bassey rising in leaps, and you're playing politics with him. Instead of including him in the team to study and perhaps get a chance. You are saying his time will come. This is why we always lose good players.

Seal him first and let him have no other option. Then he can then wait for his time. As with women, get these guys while they're young. Is that too hard to understand.

You can not say the skill rate of the players of the past are miles ahead of the current set because they did not deal with the kind of intensity we are seeing in football today. Now almost all teams are serious with nutrition, fitness, tactics etc. It is more difficult now.

So those guys could be sublime then but it will not be that easy today.

Eze can go and sit down...Is Bassey better than Aina and Sanusi? I would easily include him ahead of Collins though..
But calm down.. He isn't an exceptional player we should loss sleep over... I repeat, Aina and Sanusi are enough for the role....

Super Eagles AFCON LIST

It can’t be better than this except for some players missing. Ebuehi, Bassey, Dessers and Akpoguma.

Umah and Awoniyi are very lucky.

Nwakali should take his chances.

Bassey now plays as a CB for Rnagers by the way. And he's very SOLID. That's Why i'm curious about his exclusion. And please don't mention Sanusi in my ears. I nor like nonsense. I'm just vexing here.

Ebuehi is the best at that position. I love Aina and Awaziem, but you see that Slim light skin guy—he was trained for that role.. Why can't our coaches see this. Go see that friendly against Argentina and see how magnificent this guy is with the attack and defense.

So what role do u want Bassey to play in the SE? CB of LB?
I like Ebueh a lot....But that Argentina game was 4 years ago..it's old news... Ebuehi hasn't really done enough this season to merit a recall if we are to be honest...

This is Bassey's breakthrough season for Rangers..he need it.... Like I said, he should wait for his time...there's no need to rush...

In two or three years from now, Bassey will be massive and one of the best in Europe. Then Nigeria will be second choice. After this Afcon, I doubt if he would still be interested. If he is, I'll be happy. My prayer is we shouldn't lose him. That's my point.

Concerning Ebuehi, do you watch Venezia matches I doubt it.

Regarding Ebuehi, not suggesting his inclusion but we've not really tried him out much of recent to know if he still has that same Argentina match vibe with him

attackers are being heavily protected now unlike in the past where defenders get away with a lot of bad tackles

Ebuehi has been playing well in the Italian league and has performed in multiple matches for the SE for you to be mentioning Argentina match and he was replaced by Shehu and Jamilu Collins who have had monstrous performances for the SE undecided

Bad tackles are not the point. I am talking of tactical defending nullifying the speed and skills of players. I am talking of a whole team filled with fit players. It is not easy today as it was in the past.

For Christ sake, Akpeyi have no business anymore in that team. Why waste the space?

I think it is no longer safe for all these foreign borns to feature for us. Seems we are even wasting them than the other countries. Dessers should go figure himself out. I feel for him. With all his passion for Nigeria (Super Eagles), yet no value and appreciation.

I really feel his pain.
