hmm, you just made a point. So, they would use the homeless people in New York to cite examples which is not possible because the homeless people in US has access to some social benefits an average Nigerian see as something special.
More like the social benefits that average Nigerians, particularly the homeless, will never know. undecided

Let's call a spade a spade. This is a silly comparison. Those homeless people in the U.S are still far better than the homeless people in Nigeria. They have homeless shelters for them, however so many of them refuse to seek refuge at the homeless shelters due to a high rate of theft and physical abuse by the residents. Also, many of them are homeless due to drug abuse and mental health issues , even when offered a place to stay, they still end up on the streets. The homeless people over there also have access to social workers who can set them up with food vouchers, health insurance, job training etc but Nigeria doesn't have that. Notwithstanding, as a Nigerian, Nigeria remains the best place to make it big in this life. Despite the numerous challenges we face, there's no place like home and it is left for us to develop it.

How's all these better? The most pronounced homeless people in Nigeria are mad people. We don't really have the problem of homelessness in Nigeria, that's why the word "homeless" doesn't fly around here frequently.
You would just have someone to accommodate you in Nigeria unlike in abroad where you are on your own

Being homeless is alien to Igbo Nation ...

years ago, I read about how former Imo governor ohakim, through his urban renewal project, rendered road vendors stranded in Owerri. Guess what? Most imolites relocated to their beautiful homes in the village.. set up better stores for themselves too, especially at market areas.

So the homeless people who live there in the same state and also on the villages are what, not people? undecided

You can never see a man that has 2020 toyota in Nigeria queue up for food stamp....never
The reason is simple....the american got the car on loan.... the nigerian most likely paid for it..such a person is most times buoyant enough not to need a food stamp.
There are many car owners that are very broke in Nigeria
Dont believe that hype o
Is it not in my area I saw many people selling stuff out of their cars ?
Some even sleep in their cars

Believe me, one has to be extremely useless to be homeless in any developed country.
They have options to free housing and food, and could get job.

marenkurz:
Homelessness in developed world is self inflicted. There are free government housing they can move in to. But because they can't abide by the rules of those housing, they stay on the street.
By the way, one has to be extremely useless to be out of the system.

Trust me, you're ignorant of what you are talking about.
Some simply lost their jobs and no family or friends to support them unlike here.
For the fact that you even believed that government can cater for all of them but they simply couldn't abide by the "rules" is the problem means you don't know what you're talking about. Why don't you take few minutes to educate yourself on this and come back with more knowledge about this?

@ imoh-umoren, your trip to america just to see homeless people? you did not see the standard of living? how govt relate to citizens? development? Cleaniness? Freedom? Human right? For your ignorance, those homeless have free hot meals, free health care, protection, etc. Not govt wish to keep them in the street, but out of their own choosen. Govt provide funding to take care of them throu ngo's. The homeless has access to very good thing. Get your facts straight.

I'm sure he saw all that too. He knew that we already knew all that, he just tried to bring another perspective he knew wouldn't sit down well with people like you. Lol

You have not said anything sensible here.
Can you even sleep outside in Lagos under the harmattan?
In US People sleep's under -2°c , before you make comparison always get your facts right

You believe there are more homeless people in New York than Lagos because the homeless people in Lagos always hussle hard during the day to make end means. Take a walk to several bridges in Lagos at night or check out some streets at the early hours of the day (3am - 4am) and the number of homeless people in Lagos will shock you.

In all, I am very great full to God for providing a shelter for me

I have not been to NYC or USA so I won't argue with those who have been there. My question is can't they build small houses just as we do in Lagos? Get a small piece of land say maybe quarter or half plot of land and construct a self a two rom sef contain or 2 bedroom flat on it? Please forgive my ignorance if I have said something stupid because many quoters would like to come for my head on a silver's plate. Make una nor too provoke ooh bruhs

No, they can't. Their government won't allow such structures, they have "standards". That's the beauty of living in Nigeria, you can build according to your financial capacity

Why would he say such?... that he saw more homeless people in New York than in Lagos. It is a lie. There are wayyyyy more homeless people in New York than those one will see and know. Most live in Shelters and there are soooo many shelters .... but one has to have papers to be admitted to a shelter. Shelters for men ... Shelters for women .... Shelters for boys/girls (group homes) ... Shelters for Gays ... Shelters for Lesbians .... Shelters for the aged.... Shelters for families .....a whole lot of these people having regular jobs and if you see them you will never for a moment suspect they are homeless. Shelters have rules and regulations strictly enforced.... some with access choose to live on the street for reasons best known to them. Those without papers have no option except like now during the winter when it becomes life threatening cold.... all visible homeless people are taken off the street and stuffed into Shelters. Fat guy with a matching fat lie.

I do watch lot of YouTube videos interviews of homeless people in America, damn, homelessness is an epidemic in the United states.

Like homeless men and women living in cardboard boxes, something i have never seen in Nigeria before.

I saw a video of a whole street literally filled with homeless people in America, it was shocking.

The worst is being homeless during the winter, you might die before morning.

One of my favorite channels about homeless people is invisible people on YouTube. Go check it out.

Just watch this 18 years old who recently became homeless, see the fear in his eyes.

So stop trying to hype homeless people in the United states.

It is the worst thing ever. You can literally die in the winter
they ll just wake up and write things to prove what's not there forgetting not everyone can travel out...

You are lying! I don't know what is wrong with some of you Nigerians. America is my second home. Lived in U.S longer than I ever lived in Nigeria or in Western Europe where I was born. There are more homeless people than there are homeless shelters. I should know because I used to volunteer in shelters in the United States. And no, the shelters don't take all homeless people in or help the homeless with jobs, health insurance, etc.

There are so many Americans who are not homeless and have no health insurance coverage how much more the homeless.

Also, not all homeless people are drug addicts or people with mental health issues. Some are regular folks who lost their jobs, could no longer make rent and found themselves on the street. Most Americans are only 1 paycheck away from ending up on the street.

REAL Americans tell the truth about their country America unlike African migrants like you who stay hyping other people's country more than your own. America is on a downward spiral. Americans know this and talk about it all the time but African migrants like you will come online to lie about a country that you don't even originally come from because many of you are so thirsty for validation from Nigerians in Nigeria and want Nigerians in Nigeria to worship your azz all because you reside in America.

So many Americans are running away from America and migrating to countries in South and Central America, Asia, Australia and to Africa. Yes, you heard me, AFRICA!

Keep hyping America and don't go and fix your homeland. As a Black African, you will always be looked down upon no matter where you live on earth until you develop your homeland. America is not your ancestral land. Go and develop your ancestral land in Nigeria Africa.

you are on your own...if you are born poor its 98 percent that you are gonna die poor and still be in the circle of poverty but over there the chances of you being rich and living ok is very certain and available because the society is planned
