DaddyRochie1642: No doubt that there are so many homeless people over there..But the reason is because of laziness, you can't compare a black african to any other race, cos we tend to have the hustling spirit than they do. |

Factors that are responsible for homelessness in Neywork are not the same with that of Lagos. American society is where real capitalism plays out. Housing is very expensive in New York , and most people want to live in this cities instead of moving to the suburbs where there is relatively lower housing price, Because of this, the price of housing will fly above the average affordability level. People are homeless not because there are no Houses but because there is a low supply of housing. Note: In urban planning parlance, housing supply is the number of affordable housing units available at a given time. It is also important to note that no society no matter advanced can fully solve it's housing problems. Housing problems are wicked problems, from the streets of London, to the 4th avenue in Neywork down to the magnificent buildings of Paris they abound. 2 Likes |

louqas: This comparison is an abomination! You shouldn't compare the drama in Nigeria to the scenes in America! It is unfortunate......cursed be the day I was born when I witness such comparison! The government here has ensured one of the worst economic disasters that has ever happened in the history of humanity! Since the day mankind appeared, it has been one of the most terribly irresponsible and oppressive government ever! All the rulers in Nigeria are manifestations of something disgraceful to humanity! The world is in shambles and Nigeria is part of the twists and turns! Spits on the streets! Life is absurd! Furrrk these things! 1 Like 1 Share |

Ghostmode2two: There are building codes and standards that have to be followed. This cost money and if someone pays for it they will want you to pay rent which will be impossible for someone with mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependence and trauma... There isn't a lack of homes, there's a lack of affordable housing. Also, everyone wants to live in the big cities because America has land! There are part of America where there are affordable houses but then there are no jobs there and without work your broke and hungry. There are problems everywhere in the world though. But there are just as much opportunities for success. 1 Like |

A lot of people think about politics and society with the implicit assumption that all people are quintessentially similar. In the US, the conservative flavor of this is “anyone can succeed if they apply themselves/work hard.” The liberal flavor is “anyone can succeed if they have the right training/opportunity.” I’m gonna hit you with concrete brick from Reality: not everyone has middle class motivations, ambitions, and behavior. Some people do not fit into the societal model. They cannot live responsibly and you cannot train them to be useful. The homeless population is not “regular folks who don’t have a place to stay.” There are a small number in that circumstance, but the rest are people who are socially maladapted. For various reasons they cannot maintain a place to live. This may be mental health, drug addiction, actively wanting to live on the side of a mountain (you’d be surprised!) or some other thing. Many of them will bite the hand that feeds. They will refuse your help. As a society, we have to make a hard choice about what to with this group. Do you let them fail? Do you institutionalize them? These are difficult things to wrestle with, but they underlying the fact that if you want this group to conform with the societal model, they’ll need to be supervised full time. There’s not necessarily a right answer - you are either respecting their right to suffer and sit in their own feces, or imposing your will upon them just to make everyone else feel more comfortable. Most people from western countries live in societies that have some strain of individualist thinking. No one wants to admit that some people just suck. We’d all prefer to think that everyone is inherently good and has intrinsic value. From Qoura 2 Likes |

How about we ship those lazy freeloaders to some other country - preferably in Africa - where they can then see what poverty really looks like? Why should those of us who WORK subsidize the lazy bastards who want something for nothing? Ever see Section 8 projects where the blacks and similar live for free (or close to it)? They destroy it because it didn’t cost them anything in sweat equity or responsibility. Bleep them Also from Qoura |
Re: Imoh Umoren: "I’ve Seen More Homeless People In New York Than In Lagos by Nobody: 10:13am On Dec 31, 2021 |
There is a percentage of the homeless who are just that way due to bad luck. Lost a job, got a divorce, and had huge medical bills all at once, for example. Such people could be helped in this way. Give them a house and they would take care of it. But there’s lots of homeless people who are alcoholics/drug addicts and/or mentally ill. If you gave them a house something bad would happen. Maybe they would pass out with a cigarette in their mouth and burn the house and themself up. Maybe they would just leave the doors open when they were in a crack den getting a fix, and rats would move in. Maybe they would think aliens were coming in the windows and shoot them out. People like this need to live their lives in custody. Not prison, more like abandoned kids who are made wards of the state. Put them somewhere where they have no access to illegal drugs or alcohol or guns, but do have meds for their mental illness and access to counseling. Qoura 1 Like |

Though we know no system is perfect but it's annoying how some mofos tend to use that to justify the irks in our system..."so even these things they happen for US". Y'all will never use their good side as a standard for your failed country. Yes there are homeless folks ever wondered why they are homeless despite the fact that they have a working system?! It might be personal issues like drugs or job lol etc buh here in Nigeria, you'll work your a** out 24/7 yet na one dead face me I slap you you go dey stay and that to some people is called "home" smh. Inside salary, you go pay for dead Education, vigilante, Light wey no dey, buy fuel (that's if you're even fortunate enough to have one. Abegiii make una no ever try to measure up to the west! Don't!!! Even in their imperfections, they're a lot better than us! No cap! You'll see Americans saying the truth about these imperfections and how homelessness is becoming a problem but try that here in Nigeria you'll be labeled as an enemy of Buhari. Bottom line, DON'T USE THEIR IMPERFECTIONS AS AN EXCUSE FOR YOUR GROSS FAILURE!!! 3 Likes 1 Share |

The housing problem is in most countries created by zoning laws and NIMBYism. You try to find a lot of ground to build houses but thousand of neighbouring houseowners will swamp media with stories about why that is a bad idea. |

Cos i have seen a homeless man that said he had not taken baths in the last 2 months, telling in advice, after shaking hands with his benefactor. I am sure it is only a MAD man in Lagos or Onitsha or the almanjiris that could be so vulnerable to an extent of not taking bath that long. Go to YouTube and you would pity the US society . |

Double0h7: You are right. In point of fact, for every homeless person in the USA, there are already something like five vacant houses or apartments. The problem is not inadequate housing. Rather, it's a question of ownership and marginalized people who are excluded from participating in a capitalist economy. |

Peace1993:Imagine someone living in Nigeria with 50% of the population living below $1 per day pitying US. Lol. The average income for poor people in US is $12,000 annually. Forget YouTube oga. Go and read about the real reasons from reliable sources. Search coalition for the homeless on Google. Most homeless are either exconvicts, drug addicts or mad people. Although few are truly homeless. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
