Trust me, you're ignorant of what you are talking about.
Some simply lost their jobs and no family or friends to support. them unlike here
For the fact that you even believed that government can cater for all of them but they simply couldn't abide by the "rules" is the problem means you don't know what you're talking about. Why don't you take few minutes to educate yourself on this and come back with more knowledge about this?

The bolded stems from culture. You cannot be more correct. In most cases. it is by choice.

there are lot of videos on YouTube of homelessness in the United states.

So stop trying to hype homeless people in the United states.

It is the worst thing ever. You can literally die in the winter
Abi o. See how he is hyping homelessness in the US.

It is the old homeless guys i pity most. They are very prone to suffering in the US if not averagely rich at old age……..

Where do you think ‘you owe nobody nothing’ culture originated from? The average person’s mentality in that society is to save for the future to avoid story that touches.

The confusion is in the definition of homelessness.

Is being homeless living in the streets in a box with access to some help and financial support so you could eat daily and bathe at least once or twice a week.

Or is homelessness living in shanties and squalor with zero access to support or financial assistance.

The thing has levels.

Factors that are responsible for homelessness in Neywork are not the same with that of Lagos.
American society is where real capitalism plays out. Housing is very expensive in New York , and most people want to live in this cities instead of moving to the suburbs where there is relatively lower housing price, Because of this, the price of housing will fly above the average affordability level.
People are homeless not because there are no Houses but because there is a low supply of housing.
Note: In urban planning parlance, housing supply is the number of affordable housing units available at a given time.
It is also important to note that no society no matter advanced can fully solve it's housing problems. Housing problems are wicked problems, from the streets of London, to the 4th avenue in Neywork down to the magnificent buildings of Paris they abound.

You're absolutely right. You just can't win lol.

In the entire United States of America, there are approximately 750,000 homeless people. Compare this number to Over 24 million homeless in Nigeria , with over 10 million of then children, and tell us please how this is a balanced comparison being made here. undecided

You need to adjust for population size.

Nonetheless, Nigeria has far higher numbers than the US in totality.

It's unfortunate most nigerians think its until you are living in the streets that you are homeless.

Most fail to realise that most nigerians can't leave on the streets because he ain't safe and our culture frowns at it.

There are many nigerians leaving with neighbours, friends and family who ought to be homeless

There are nigerians leaving in houses and still owing months rent and you think they are not homeless

There are nigerians leaving in houses that they don't look forward to going home to at end of day. Yet u don't think they are homeless.

Imagine someone living in Nigeria with 50% of the population living below $1 per day pitying US. Lol. The average income for poor people in US is $12,000 annually.

Forget YouTube oga. Go and read about the real reasons from reliable sources. Search coalition for the homeless on Google. Most homeless are either exconvicts, drug addicts or mad people. Although few are truly homeless.
In my view, you are already derailing from the crux of discussion already which is ‘ living in Nigeria vs being homeless in the US.

My opinion was based on somebody that said he prefers being homeless in the US to living in Nigeria. And here you are telling how horrible homelessness is. From your write up, it could be deduced that living in Nigeria is better off homelessness over there………

A lot of people think about politics and society with the implicit assumption that all people are quintessentially similar.

In the US, the conservative flavor of this is “anyone can succeed if they apply themselves/work hard.” The liberal flavor is “anyone can succeed if they have the right training/opportunity.”

I’m gonna hit you with concrete brick from Reality: not everyone has middle class motivations, ambitions, and behavior. Some people do not fit into the societal model. They cannot live responsibly and you cannot train them to be useful.

The homeless population is not “regular folks who don’t have a place to stay.” There are a small number in that circumstance, but the rest are people who are socially maladapted. For various reasons they cannot maintain a place to live. This may be mental health, drug addiction, actively wanting to live on the side of a mountain (you’d be surprised!) or some other thing.

Many of them will bite the hand that feeds. They will refuse your help.

As a society, we have to make a hard choice about what to with this group. Do you let them fail? Do you institutionalize them? These are difficult things to wrestle with, but they underlying the fact that if you want this group to conform with the societal model, they’ll need to be supervised full time. There’s not necessarily a right answer - you are either respecting their right to suffer and sit in their own feces, or imposing your will upon them just to make everyone else feel more comfortable.

Most people from western countries live in societies that have some strain of individualist thinking. No one wants to admit that some people just suck. We’d all prefer to think that everyone is inherently good and has intrinsic value.
From Qoura

This is the truth. Some people don't want to work 8 to 12 hours a day only to pay bills. They don't want to be part of this process.

If they sit outside and beg, they walk away with a minimum of £20/30 if 30 people give them £1 or as much as £100 a day. They then buy themselves their drinks and drugs and get to socialize with their new community and this is sustainable for them.

If you put them in a house and give them a schedule, they can not function. They don't know how to be in this situation. I've watched documentaries where these people talk about the loneliness they feel when they close their door and sit in an apartment. The homeless lifestyle offers them a family and camaraderie.

Then there are those who are homeless due to circumstances and it is those people who need help to get back to their normal life.

You are wrong. There are people in America that are squatting with friends and families, sleeping on the couch.

You need to check the definition of a decent home then you will know many nigerians are homeless

Example i visited someone living in barracks, when i was pressed, he told me to cross the road and relieve myself. I asked him wat if it's no two, he said i will still cross road, only this time i will enter bush. I asked what if it at night, oga u go still cross road. He went on further as you can see we no get toilet and we cook outside so u can piss or shit outside.

Is this person not homeless

No one can afford to accommodate you in the US. Do you know how many Nigerians have been kicked out or their so called friends disappeared on them in the US? Lol. Every minute you are idle in someone’s house is costing them money. You can’t turn on light and heat anyhow!

If you have family members accommodating a grown person like you in Nigeria, even if they are not very nice. Be grateful.

Force to them to which indoor?
There are lot of cases if homeless people freezing to death during the winter, just search on Google

What is a shack? A homeless person has no where to sleep but on the streets, under bridges.
Come to Atlanta and see thousands of grown men and women sleeping under the bridge covered with only blankets in the cold and begging for money to eat.
Go to any major city and in the US and the story is the same.
The US with all the riches still has many many problems such as homelessness, serious crimes, race issues and many many more.
No society is perfect.

A Nigerian was just killed 4 days ago for absolutely nothing. I feel at peace whenever I'm in Nigeria.

While America is far ahead of Nigeria, many Nigerians think its El dorado.I'm not sure there are more homeless people in America than Nigeria as it has not been validated by research. Accommodation is very expensive over there. I was shocked to see beggars in America when I visited. I remember giving a beggar some money in USA.
