A friend of mine has been doing business on Instagram, self employed for like 4 years, she has applied for a graduate certificate course in Advertising-Creative & Digital Strategy, I’d like to know if the VO won’t raise any obejection regarding the course please? |

PatrickOkunima:I think you totally misunderstood the point from those that you withheld their names. No one here has ever said GIC is not a means to show financial capability, you mistook their points to mean "strong disapproval". The point is - VO's don't give a damn having a GIC if the applicant still lack other good means of financial support. Almost all successful applicants here didn't even have a GIC account. (In fact, from personal observation, for the past 10 weeks, I don't think I've seen a timeline of an approved applicant that did GIC) So what's the point of going through the stress of GIC if applicants can have and solidify their normal means of finances to get approval! 5 Likes |

Hello Makano Thank you for your detailed response and all points are duly noted. However is threre any specific way to prove this sponsor beyond all possible doubts through documentation. He's a mentor but I'm claiming him as uncle. Thank you again for your anticipated response makano: |

Good morning everyone and compliments of the season. I want to sincerely appreciate everyone who has been keeping this thread going. I have learnt a whole lot. I recently applied to one of the universities in Canada but paying for my application fee has been a great challenge. It requires I pay through credit card, I don't have this, neither does anyone around me. I would appreciate if I can find a way around this issue. I think it is getting late already. Thanks |

Oddyjoyce: You can easily open dollar savings account with any bank. Buy dollars from Aboki and use it to fund your dollar account. You can pay your international fees with your dollar card. 2 Likes |

nolookinback: He already mentioned your sponsor should pay your one year tuition and transfer your living expenses to you. He also advise you to avoid company account if you can. Finally, he suggested you can submit evidence of past sponsorship (regular money transfer). I will add that you can submit pictures taken overtime with your sponsor. I deleted some things in your response. There are things that are illegal and should be avoided. Ile Eni Latin je Ekute oni dodo - Na inside house persin dey go chop rat wey get belly button. PatrickOkunima: I dunno what platform you used to get this screenshot, but I applied last month, and I didn't see or read or see where GIC was listed under POF as a compulsory thing to do. I even took a picture of it before I submitted my app. Screenshots below NB - I used the NEW PORTAL 3 Likes

Hello nolookinback I have already mentioned this in my previous quote to your post.. The said sponsor should just show his total commitment to your studies and living expenses all through your stay in Canada.. He should pay your full school fees and send the living expenses to your personal account(you will need to state this in your LOE). He will have to write a Letter of sponsorship to explain how committed he is to your studies , he will need to explain in details how he plans of doing this with documents to backup his claims. He will also have to get an Affidavit of sponsorship from any High court or magistrate court in Nigeria .. You as the applicant, you will have to also explain In details of this as regards his commitment to your studies.. In addition, if he has sponsored you in the past, you must state this in your letter of explanation with documents to back up your claims... This works for 3rd party sponsors when convincing the Visa officer of his past commitments to your academics... Other knowledgable peeps can give you more advise on this..... PatrickOkunima: GIC as a matter of fact is not compulsory for students from Nigeria. It doesn't mean that you can't use it. But note that it doesn't guarantee approval over someone who doesn't have it. All that is needed is to show that funds in account isn't for demonstration purpose but for your studies. People only use it to show that funds are for studies and not just demonstration. But it NEVER guarantees approval. GIC was meant for student from specific country who wants to apply under Student Direct Stream SDS, which is like Nigeria NSE, just that in SDS, GIC is compulsory and in NSE, GIC isn't compulsory instead MBS. So no one condemns it. What people do is tell people the reality and fact that even if you like have GIC, it doesn't give you edge over someone with MBS or normal SOA. So is good for people to know that if you have GIC, when your application isn't approved and you want a refund, have it at your back of your mind that the refund isn't instant and administrative fees surcharge comes with it. So no where is IRCC is GIC compulsory for all, but only for specific country using specific direct stream. See IRCC attached link for more info. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/student-direct-stream/eligibility.html All the bests 12 Likes |
