This lady was given a 2 month visa with her daughter for a visit to Nigeria. She is a citizen of Switzerland. She decided to cut her stay short after 5 weeks and return to her home country. To her surprise when she got to the airport, immigration had marked her as an overstayer and demanded she pay $8,000 to her chagrin. Now, remember that her visa was for 2 months so she still had about 3 weeks left.

To cut the long story short after a heated debate and her refusal to pay this money, one of the immigration men called her aside and asked her to just pay N80,000 and they will let her go. This made her even more suspicious because they had dropped from $8,000 or N4,000.000 to N80,000. At this point she was enraged and threatened to call the Ambassador in Switzerland at which point they pleaded and allowed her to go.

She barely managed to catch her flight and was only minutes away from missing her return journey.

As for me, I can only say that the Nigeria system is endemically rotten and only a fundamental and foundational transformation will fix the current mess. These immigration people, just like the police are criminals - 95% of them.
