Nigeria have players to win the AFCON - Mohamed Salah

The Liverpool forward is confident that the Super Eagles can be victorious.

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has given his thoughts about the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their opening group game at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 29-year-old is expected to lead Egypt against the Super Eagles in a clash which will be pivotal towards which team finishes top of Group D.

At a press conference held on Monday, January, 10, 2022, the Egyptian stated that the Super Eagles have what it takes to lift the AFCON2021 title.

He said, "Nigeria have players to win the tournament, I am just one player in my team. I don't take questions and reactions personal. They have good players, but we will try our best to win tomorrow."

Salah then went on to reveal his ambitions to lead Egypt to their eighth AFCON title.

He said, "I will love to win something with the country and I will give my best to the team. We have a good coach and players and hopefully, we will win it.

When asked about the threat he poses to other teams at the competition, Salah stated that he just wants to excel as part of the group.

He added, "I am just part of the team and I would not regard myself as the most dangerous player in the team. I am here to play with the team.

Discussing Jurgen Klopp's controversial comments on the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah defended his club manager.

"Klopp was saying it as a joke, he wants us to come. He told me, he wishes me to win, I don't know what he told Mane. In England, they regard the AFCON as a big tournament."

Salah and Egypt take on the Super Eagles in their first game of Group D scheduled for tomorrow at Garoua.

Because me nor rate Collins. Never have. Never will. Na that goal him score deceive Rohr, just like Idowu deceived him. Baba Rohr dey very easy to deceive by average players, yet him go dey stress the good one lock their destiny for bench.

So happy he's gone. Because now we for don dey hear, "We don't have Osimhen and Ighalo, our team is young, we lack a player like Salah, we are here to learn."

There is nothing to learn; but how to strategize and face a similar foe in Egypt...

Or you want to be unfortunate like Hitler's Germany heading into Russian territories without doing their deligence?

If you have an idea of how to tackle your opponent via similarities (Morocco Vs Ghana) you'll have a better understanding of their playing pattern.

Egypt is considerably better than Morocco undoubtedly.

We are not going to out pass Egypt, we either try to contain them and hit them on the break, that means with blistering pace as a strategy.

You need intelligent players to do that , funny enough for me the best CB for that is Awaziem, and Balogun he Awaziem should not be playing as a RB or we will get roasted.

Zaidu against Sala will see him pick up a yellow at least , you need intelligence and some pace to deal with Salah. Zaidu lacks intelligence.

Onyeka is a water carrier who can keep running all 90 minutes , Ndidi the same hard working but don't expect innovation and creativity from them. You will have to leave that for Aribo plus end product and he will work hard too. Later in Aribo can be subbed for Iwobi.

Why because our Midfield is going to be working over time. And it's only for very fit players.

Up front it will get ugly and so physicality will be needed , because none of the current young pretenders have blistering pace, so bullying and roughing be them up will have to do. And that's what I will expect from Awoniyi.

Chukwueze doesn't work hard enough or back track's to help in defence and flatters to decieve, very little end product. I want to believe Ejuke is better, that he can cross the ball accurately for Awoniyi. And so playing both wings I will have Musa with option to be subbed later in the games by either Olyinka or

We don't have strength in depth, we do need Ighalo but it seems he is missing.

I am not comparing musa to Thiago Silva

Your super eagles coaches keeps calling musa ,blame them and leave musa alone as he has done nothing wrong

I don’t know when reaching 100 caps became the criteria to leave the national team for younger players

Coaches should give younger players chances to improve their career and that’s not the job of Musa .

Chidera Ejuke: Meet the talented winger leading Nigeria's charge at AFCON 2021
footballng.com

The Super Eagles will be seeking a fourth continental title at the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, and one of the players that will be key to the side’s hopes is Chidera Ejuke.

In a squad that has been decimated by injuries and withdrawals, Ejuke’s performance will be vital for Nigeria if they are to win a fourth AFCON title.

But who is the talented winger?

Ejuke is currently with Russian Premier League side CSKA Moscow, but he has had quite a remarkable journey even though he is only 23.

The 23-year-old’s talents were first spotted at the U-17 level, but the youngster never got to represent Nigeria at any age-grade competition.

He didn’t make the Golden Eaglets that won the 2015 u-17 World Cup and was ineligible to represent the squad that failed to make it to the world stage two years later.

Ejuke also had a failed trial with English Premier League club Liverpool. Following the disappointment of failing to play for the Golden Eaglets and Liverpool, Ejuke got his chance with Nigerian club Gombe United.

However, he only stayed at the club for a few months before moving to Europe, where he signed for the Norwegian football club Vålerenga Fotball.

Ejuke’s impressive performance in Norway caught the attention of Dutch football club Heerenveen, who paid 2m euros to sign him in 2019.

But just like his time at Gombe United, Ejuke spent just a year at Heerenveen before CSKA Moscow snapped him up for 12m euros.

Ejuke’s displays at CSKA earned him his Super Eagles debut in October 2020. But his talents only caught the eye of many Nigerians this season.

The 23-year-old has been CSKA’s best player this season, winning the club’s player of the month in the last three months.

At the international level, he is already a fan-favourite because of his ability to move past defenders with ease, even though he is yet to have a good run of games in the team.

But with new interim boss Austin Eguavoen, a big fan of the skilful winger, Ejuke is set to play a vital role in the Super Eagles AFCON 2021 campaign.

What I learned reading this is that: With the right antenna and proper system set in place, we can unearth many dynamically talented players here in the League, in Nigeria. If we can do this successfully, then screw those shakara foreign borns.

Yes because you no longer necessarily need to wait till the AFCON to scout for African players, cos you see them week in week out in their various European clubs.

NIG vs. EGT: The best defensive setup that can stop Salah on Tuesday
News Hub Creator

Nigeria will begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title with an important game against Egypt on Tuesday. All eyes will be on Mohamed Salah in the game. The Egyptian striker has been the best player in the Premier League this season, and he is the main player who will set out to hurt the Super Eagles.

While there are many reasons for the Super Eagles to be afraid of Salah, there is also a way to stop him. That is by coming up with a defensive setup that can neutralize the impact of the Liverpool striker.

Austin Eguavoen doesn't have many top quality defenders in his squad, although he can improvise. The coach will probably line up with a defensive back-four.

In the right-back position, there won't be much to worry about since Salah only operates on the right wing. Chidozie Awaziem could fit into this position to defend and help the attack.

For the right centre-back, the first option will be William Troost-Ekong. The 28-year old is not the most trusted, but he will definitely start.

The left centre-back will have a tough work to do by stopping the Pharaohs' centre-forward and keeping an eye on Salah. This is where Eguavoen has to look for the right option. At the moment, the best option is Wilfred Ndidi.

The Leicester City midfielder gave a brilliant performance at centre-back as his team nullified the Liverpool attack in a 1-0 win this season. Eguavoen may have to adopt the same setup if his team were to stop the Egyptian danger man.

But there won't be a Super Eagles player as busy as the left-back on Tuesday. The left-back will be tasked with the duty of man-marking Salah and preventing him from getting into the box. In the Super Eagles, there is one left-back who knows Salah quite well.

This is Zaidu Sanusi. The Porto defender has faced Salah twice this season in the Champions League. Salah scored three goals in those two games, but Sanusi's encounters with the Liverpool star would have given him the chance to study the striker. This could see him put in a better performance to stop the striker on Tuesday.

Thus, the best defensive setup will be Awaziem on the right, Ekong and Ndidi in the centre, and Sanusi on the left.

I agree with most of what you said.

But...

Morocco is more compact than Egypt ooh. Na because na Ghana that's why you feel they're not compact. This Moroccan team will eat Senegal for meal. Ghana get pedegree and strong head for Afcon even though it's been 30yrs they last won it.

Ebuehi can handle Salah majestically. You're right about Sanusi, he runs and lacks sense, and overlaps too often. But he's fast.

In essence, if we play slightly better than Ghana with a midfield that's tough to crack, we will be unplayable by any team.

And don't he surprised, we may just nack them 3 : 0 tomorrow. cool cool

The aim is to have the midfield attack in numbers, after build up of play.

This has to be a personal opinion.

When it comes to work rate and defending, I think Ndidi clearly rules. However, on a personal preference, I will take Partey because he offers more to his game. His offensive skillset is an added plus for him. However, he ends up creating gaps for opponents to exploit.

Partey is my pick but let us see what Eguavoen has in store for Ndidi. I think he wants him to add more offensive touch to his game.

The only reason I'm not going to insult Eguavoen here is because he's the one seeing the players in training.

However, Ejuke dribbles from the wing, either coming from wings or driving to the wings. Playing him as 10 will just destabilize the attack. Can he even give a through pass. He hardly does so for CSKA. If he's not playing as a winger then he should be on the bench abeg.

Eguavoen seems a little too mesmerized by Ejuke's dribbling. It's becoming annoying.
