Hello All. My brother's fiance (US citizen) filed for a fiance visa on September 20 for my brother. Receipt was acknowledged on September 23, 2021 and a Receipt number (starting with WAC....) was sent via text message. Till date, no case number or anything. We used the receipt to track on this website, - https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do - and "Case was received" message acknowledging the receipt of the petition was displayed.


Is this normal? How soon does it take to get a case number or is the receipt number the same as case number? January 23, 2022 will make the 4th month and nothing has been heard. Can someone with a similar experience please responsd.

I think you have it all mixed up, you can't get a case number when your case has not reached NVC na, what you are expected to have is only your receipt number. You will wait between 6-8 months from the month of submission before USCIS will approve your case and then send to NVC then you can start talking about case number. Relax E never reach make you no give yourself unnecessary high bp

Very encouraging. I will keep the house posted when my brother gets approved. Then we can get a bit of insight into how they work over there. It will be so strange if getting approval from USCIS takes 8 months as someone mentioned in this thread.

I just had my interview. It was a success. But I was told to bring the original copy of my birth certificate and submit at the DHL office alongside my passport. I was also told that once I submit them my visa will be ready for collection in 10 days. Will I say I was foolish to have submitted the photocopy? Lol. Anyways I’m excited. Thank you all. Whew! What a journey.

Who is going to notify us when case will be ready ?? Is it USCIS Case Tracker app that has stated case approved that will still show wether case is ready ?? Or NVC it’s self will send a mail to show if status is ready !??

You and your fiancé(e) should be ready for a long ride. Right now USCIS takes approximately 10 months to approve your petition (noa2) then in a few weeks it is sent to the NVC but currently the lagos embassy is not requesting for petition from nvc so there is a whole year backlog as the last petitions they requested were those sent December 2021.

So after 10 months for approval, another one year for the embassy to request your case then once its ready you can book an appointment. The process takes roughly 2 years now in total.
