We will also benefit from Nwakali's long distance volleys of the ball especially if Sudan packs their 18 yard box.

How many goals has he scored with his long distance volleys in the league?

Okay, Uncle Kog... na you? Okay, you just considering other options?

I understand the need to see other players but you see that Aribo? Undroppable in my books. If Nwakali must play, he must have Aribo.
If Onyeka must play alongside Ndidi, then I will still have Aribo even though I know Nwakali will bring much smoother ball transitions and control through the middle.

And if I am to balance the off-ball work rate and Midfield control of the middle game to near tactical perfection, I would rather have Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo play together. That is a more tactically Balanced trio.

For me, Aribo is a MUST. I have been saying this prior to this Afcon.

I also believe the Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo midfield can work. Which will mean losing Awoniyi for Iheanacho. However, we need to keep in mind the setup the manager is working with.

So far, we have not built ideally from the back, through midfield to attack. It goes into the Sylvanus Okpala Nigerian football philosophy, we are Rushians.

Due to that, Eguavoen prefers an offensive block. That is, more players in the attacking unit. So we ended up sacrificing a midfielder for this. The gap in the hole between the midfield and attack gets filled by players dropping into that space when attacking.

So for now, I doubt Eguavoen is willing to break that shape, unless Nwakali grows into the offensive role. However, it can work as the team progresses. That is with a Kelechi Nwakali-Kelechi Iheanacho attacking pair. With Aribo and Ndidi in midfield.

However, Nacho needs to offer more running forward. Kelechi Nwakali can also drop deep to pick the ball from the midfield pair during attack.

As I said, interesting times ahead.

Team shape can make impacts differ. What I mean, if the coach does not play him close to the opposition box, Nwakali can do that with ease. However, the talent is there to pull it off.

Andy the Non-Analytical. ABF-analyst. grin

You just Dey write epistle for nothing and you still didn’t make any sense just because you wanna include Nwakali who can always have a decent game time from the bench

Using Morocco Cameroon who did some changes from their winning team ,Morocco find it hard in creating chances against Ghana ,Cameroon weren’t that bad but also needed 2PK to score in that game

With your Nwakali analysis you are dropping a good player for him in the line up just to smuggle him in ,if you like write newspaper from now till next year

Cameroun made a couple of changes to their "winning XI" from the first game vs B/Faso. Selah.

Morocco also made 3 changes from their vital win over Ghana. Selah.

You can change a winning team, Uncle Kog. Especially when it tactically and technically uplifts the team going forward and induces even more balance

In the end, we would likely play the same first XI and they will have our support as always.

The beauty of having a well-drilled team is the ability to get results regardless of the first 11 – changes or not.

A good instance is Tuchel's Chelsea. He hardly repeat his first 11, and they still end up winning games effortlessly.

One of the benefits of this approach is that, any of the squad players can turn up and score for the team at anytime – no permanent scorer.

Interestingly, the opposing teams will always be worried and wary of such team since they are not predictable.

Wishing the team the best.

Pace is included in physicality, Osimhen has more in physicality, from speed, strength and stamina to others like jumping and even agility.

Osimhen is very physical.

Athleticism is different from Physicality.

Physicality in the context of football which is still a contact sport, is about strength, power, the ability to bully your opponent.

Athleticism makes reference to speed, pace , endurance and stamina as well as agility, which include in how high you can jump.

In terms of Brute strength Awoniyi is stronger however in terms of Aggression and fearlessness it's Victor O. this is a dangerous attribute he possesses, but its a two edged sword.

Which is better is open to never ending debate.

They are different players with different be attributesvsnd advantages. I would say Awoniyi is a late developer and he is growing in confidence, l believe and hope there is much more to come.

Since I have been watching SE training clips, I have not seen us do specialized training sessions except maybe for set-pieces.

Liverpool for example holds training sessions only on counterattacking or only on one-on-one finishing
. Training sessions on targeted qualities will definitely increase our efficiency on those qualities going into the games to come.

That's not true sorry.

Do you have any example of any country doing this at a tournament or is Liverpool football club your only example?

I'm of the belief that certain drills may not be possible in tournament situations due to shortage of time
, as opposed to when the team has been playing or will be playing for an extended period of time

That's why you don't come to the SE to learn but you bring what you have already learned , practised, and have to the SE.

Tuchel will always not repeat his first 11 ,you know why ?

The forward always misfire and you can’t count on them to win games ,the wing backs at Chelsea and the defenders do have more impact in games than the forwards .

It's a matter of perspective, brothers.

The fact I stated tackles shows that I meant possession lost by getting dispossessed by opponents.

Not possession lost by inaccurate passes or inaccurate shots, as provided by Sofascore.

Nigeria have lost possession by poor control or by a tackle 34 times, the most. Egypt 30.

The top goal scorer in the Swedish league is a 26 year old Nigerian.

But somehow not a mention of him Samuel Adegbenro here he has 17 goals in the league this season and counting. However, there is lot of talk about Amoo, who has not done as much as him..

The double standard and favouritism is not even hidden.

1st @bolded... Very intelligently said My friend. You knew who would drop in the event of an Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo MF trio. Andrewbaba44, do you now gerrit? Like I said... keep looking only okay. grin Don't learn.

2nd @bolded.... Very true GoodJoe. Our buildup has been rushed so far. We make about 2.4 passes per sequence of play and also get upfield at a speed of 1.9m/s (almost 2m/s getting upfield in transition through the Wing majorly using the long diagonal balls tactical from CB roles). And this is why our attack overload in the final third is important since this is the route applied now.
And yes, that is why we played with only 2 natural MFs. It still worked nonetheless. And it is going to keep working until someone figures us out.

And this is why I want some tactical dynamism so that opponents don't figure out how to absolutely neutralise us if they cut off that long ball to Simon route. We gotta open up another channel of attack thru the middle for tactical unpredictability going forward.

3rd @bolded.... I agree to a good extent. Now in this theoretical set-up. The issue here is Nwakali playing further forward or playing him deeper alongside Ndidi.
Aribo is a beast close to the box. If Nwakali is Played further forward, I wouldn't want Aribo's licence to attack the box to be limited at all.
This is why in my mind, I feel Nwakali should come deeper to playmake as it is harder tracking a Deeplying Playmaker compared to a Playmaker in an AM position (unless he is always falling deep) while Aribo operates from the #10 role while still helping in defensive transitions.

Anyway, interesting times like you said. wink

Let's stick to the same XI. This up here is just for tactical variety and a bit more balance and dynamism. We move.

***Oga meli, pls tell us players who are not suppose to sit on the bench in today's game.

If you take Sudan lightly we will loose.

We need our best players and some players by have shown in they have nothing to be offer that's Sadiq and Nwakali.

Time to give more game time to Onyeka ,and Onyekuru to see what they have to offer. No time for mediocrity.

We know the quality of Iwobi and Ajayi they should not be bench warmers .

I think Eguavoen will maintain the same formation. That is an offensive one with lots of players that can contribute to goal scoring and assists.

So I don't think dropping Aribo will work.

I see Kelechi Nwakali playing a more offensive role. He has the capacity of giving tidy through passes and can serve as an asset when we are on counters.

He has no business in the team or on the pitch when you have Ajayi, Iwobi and Onyeka.

Sadiq Umar

He sparked a discussion after the game. Did he play well or did he not?

My verdict. He was atrocious.

Why?

Tactical failure.

He was the only player that had Eguavoen barking in anger and directing his movement. Samson Siasia explained this when he worked with some home-based players in the Super Eagles camp. After briefing, training, drilling them on tactics. As soon as a scrimmage game started, they forgot everything. Siasia said, sometimes, these things take time to register. Sadiq definitely had a tactical nightmare and gave the coaching crew headache.

Take nothing away from the youngman. He showed total talent. Sweet touches. Intelligence in reading players movement but this coaching crew wants sound tactical involvement and Sadiq will face a heavy hand during lectures. If he nails it, the guy will fly in this competition.
When you critique a player it's analysis like this I appreciate. You stated how he was poor on the day yet didn't shame or downgrade the Las nice one.

The Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen said his team would play Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane in their second group game of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the utmost respect. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria would take on Sudan in their second Group D game of the AFCON, at the Stade Roumdé Adjia in Garoua on Saturday. Eguavoen told journalists during the pre-match conference on Friday that the Sudanese were not pushovers and would be treated as such, adding that consolidating on the victory against Egypt, was the ultimate goal. “I cannot look down on anybody, if you do that, you will be making a very big mistake. “So, the Sudanese team will not be an exception. We will approach them the same way we did against Egypt. “They are a respected side and not a weak side at all. We will play them with utmost respect. “Every game comes with a different plan. Sudan are not pushovers and more so, they are on one point and we have three points. “We want to consolidate on that, while they will be pushing harder to have a chance to qualify,” he said. On the tactics he would deploy against the Sudanese, the coach was rather subtle in his response, saying that he expected his opponents to raise their game and his team, to respond accordingly. “We have discussed as a background room staff and the entire team together. “As we studied Egypt, the truth is that it is never going to be perfect, but there will always be loopholes and the ability to read the game and get a good result matters,” he said. The gaffer showered praises on his team, adding that the difference between the present Super Eagles and the former, was about the freedom the boys now had to express themselves. “The boys deserve a lot of credit and praises because when an instruction is given, they carry it out to the latter and they don’t need too much reminders. Nigeria’s Super Eagles “So that makes it a little bit easier, for me and the coaching crew. “We haven’t actually done anything differently. It is the same personnel, but it is just about the freedom.
“Feeling free to express themselves and they see me as their father, brother and friend.
“Confide in me but don’t take advantage of me being too gentle and everyone understands that, including the players and of course, the backroom staff,” he said. On the hype of the Super Eagles being the favourite to win the AFCON title, Eguavoen noted that it was too early to draw such conclusions.
Eagles’ probable lineup against Sudan : Okoye; Aina, Troost-Ekong, Omeruo, Sanusi; Ndidi, Aribo; Musa, Iheanacho, Simon; Awoniyi.
