Nice but I wonder if delivery of puff puff and meat pie from london to up north will be viable
Lilipo:

This person's pastries, in my opinion, are the best. I have lived in the UK for so long and tried all sorts and yet to find anyone who can beat theirs. They deliver to any where in UK - link below. Packaging is on point and they even take custom orders. Try them out!

To add - I don't know them neither are they related to me.

Skilled worker visa (getting a job to give you sponsorship): cheapest option but not as easy
Post graduate student visa: more expensive but “easiest” option
How will the student visa option accommodate ones family?

Good Morning everyone, I am silent reader of this group, learning from all the great contributors of this thread.
I just got an offer to study Big data in glassgow Caledonian university as well as data science in Cardiff metropolitan university. Please kindly advise which city will be best for a family of three in terms of accomodation, living expenses and availability of jobs. Thank you. September intake.

Cardiff is in Wales
Glassgow is in Scotland (too cold for my liking)

Both places are good to bring up children, their accents will either be Welsh or Scottish eventually

I used Skipton building society back then but I think you might be better off with moneybox just because you can do more with moneybox.

https://www.moneyboxapp.com/isa/lifetime/cash/

By the way, you can open your Lisa account with as little as £1 just to get it rolling and fund the account when you have your lump sum. This is especially beneficial to those lookin to use a LISA account towards their first home. You need to have opened the Lisa account for a year before you can withdraw the funds.

Modified.. You need to fund it with £4000 before April if you want to get the max government bonus (£1k)this financial year.

very true, i have moved to moneybox from Skipton building society. Also the annual interest from moneybox is better than skipton.

Good to know it is sorted now.

You can sign up using this link and you get £10 when you spend £5 https://py.pl/gaNlT

Also for anyone looking to snatch up some £££. There are a variety of traditional banks offering hundreds of pounds to switch to them.

Note, you may have to have 2direct debits(dd) to qualify for the switch or pay in some minimum amounts.

For the HSBC advance account, you only need to pay in £1500+ initially to qualify for the £150 switch offer and if you don't have 2 dd, you can set up standing orders with your current bank account to qualify.

Thanks Chreze for always having me in mind.
I appreciate the all responses (Healthyliving, Umarwy and Pearlyfaze) on my issue. I cherished the sincere advices.

I am already working out on keeping the kids here but will like to give more insight.

My 16yr kid will turn 17 by April and was in final class in Nigeria b4 we moved. He is expected to register for WAEC latest tomorrow, write WAEC & JAMB before June. I have not be able to secure permanent accommodation yet and all my kids are not back to school after 3wks in Scotland. I am just thinking allowing him to return will give additional opportunity to possibly apply to any other university/college outside UK. I know that will be at a cost.

The house search is causing me serious stress and making it difficult to take a clear decision.

In Lasisi’s voice: me am not there oooo, I am just a passer by.

Make we all no lie say we no know say if you de Naija your savings de go down daily. I no know why but na so e b, and if you no comot on time the money go disappear.

We no go lie again say if you go abroad without complete arrangement say e go hard pass Naija. Someone came last year with family and was in Airbnb looking for house for months. No matter the money wey that person carry come, him can never de comfortable. The money no be same. And I think the feeling no be same.

I stayed in Airbnb for 1month, beginning of second month, I no see house rent, I just called the owner of the Airbnb house and we signed agreement for short term let for 6months. I can’t be stressing myself plus class and family. The owner was very fair and his price was okay compared to what I had I see online, plus it was a complete apartment (well furnished).

Somethings you go just take am as joke and laff. Even if it hurts you. Na life.

@Chreze,
I am gradually finding myself in same situation you were shocked shocked shocked

Getting house in UK no be come chop despite being ready for long term rent or paying 6 months in advance.

Knowing that I have only 1wk remaining, I have approached my BNB owner for permanent stay and he is willing to offer only 4 months. He is fully booked after May.

My dilemma is that if I take this offer now, I will need to look for another house after May and likely change schools for kids.

Any advice on this? sad angry

What has been the exact response you have been getting from letting agency?

What area is your university? Have you looked at the possibility to commute 30min -1hr?

You might try adjusting your budget.

You might try adjusting the size of houses you are looking at.

For your kids try to get them in contact with a career advisor from your council, they will assist in helping them identify a possible career path.

What ever career they decide they like there are different ways to archive that ( apprenticeship, internship, online courses, YouTube).

I advise you should explore the available options and decide. I strongly suggest you should make the call to the council.

They can register for waec and write it online or go back to write it (online/offline). And application for universities can be done from anywhere.

Good luck

If I were to be in this situation, here’s what I will do.

@17yr, he’s a full Nigerian. So taking WAEC would be a very good decision as it gives him a stand as a Nigerian (it’s also a plus now for Univeristy search and in the future as Nigerian).

For the house, I will take it (if the price is not bad or too bad) as it’s the only place for my family to rest at the moment. There is a saying in Nigeria, “instead of full cow go escape you cut the tail”. 4months added search time is not bad. Now taking this 4months offer is tricky cos if you get an apartment tomorrow, then story don de. So I will advice you use the first 2months to just check houses requirement that you think you don’t meet, work on them and strategize on your next search pattern. Also use the first 2months to focus on other aspects of your current situation (the kids). After the first 2months, you can then intensify your house search again.

For the kids school, if you take this 4months offer and they continue (or start) school, then when you get a new apartment, you can just get the student bus pass for 1year from the new apartment to their school (or you calculate the time to next school registration time for ticket purchase). This one year will give you time to figure every other thing out. Remember that there is a chance that the house you get after 4months may not be the perfect house for you and your family, it may just be a place to stay after the 4months. So them having that 1year ticket will give everybody time. If after the 4months the house you get is far, then they just have to wake up earlier than before to get ready and meet up. (You can explain to them it’s their own sacrifice to live abroad. This abroad thing everyone has to contribute in their own little way for it to be successful).

I think this is what I will do. You can add it with what others will reply and make a good decision. The house search is crazy and sometimes difficult to explain. But I see Glasgow like a blessed land and any/everyone who steps into the city will get his or her own blessing, so don’t stress much, just let things play out themself.

Forget your MBA for a moment and ask yourself what kind of jobs do you have experience in? What work experience do you have in addition to your academic qualifications? Therein lies the answer to your question.
