Please come and help me.

I have a Lexus ES330 2004 Nigerian Used with 101k mileage and recently I noticed an overheating problem.

First, it was the radiator leaking. Then I changed the radiator the day before yesterday. I was convinced that Tokunbo radiator is better because of the grade. But the overheating problem did not stop. The coolant part was actually boiling yesterday after an hour drive in the traffic.

They checked the thermostat, discovered it was damaged. It was removed yesterday and I planned on replacing it today. The car is stationed now

Prior to the radiator replacement, the car was scanned and no error was detected apart from the missing catalyst.

I don't know whether the radiator I just replaced is also a culprit. If the thermostat is replaced and the overheating still continues. What else could be the problem?

Thank you in advance.

The thermostat definitely looks like its' the problem...before you change it though get a good technician to check it over. there are service stations all over and if you don't want to stress you can try Flickwheel, they'll recommend a vetted mechanic in your area within minutes.

Hello everyone, I’m a newbie. Just got my first car. Lexus es350 2010. Oil maintenance required . Which engine oil can I buy and how much does it cost. Thanks. I hope I won’t experience any kazeems issues on my car
Re: Club-Lexus by Ayo7(m): 12:20am On Feb 07, 2022
Congratulations. Check the cover of the engine oil tank, you will see the specification. Also be ready to pay the right amount for engine oil. No short cuts.
Go to a proper service center with modern equipment and educated people. Don't hand over your vehicle to incompetent mechanics.

Try check the engine oil if it is turning milky? Or check coolant if there are oil stains in it.

It is easier to replace top gasket than having your engine warped

I removed my thermostat 4 mo ths ago, make I no lie u,naija weather no need thermostat cos forever e go dey closed. Check your hoses, one of them is leaking. Check hose connecting to engine . One of them is leaking or radiator hose. Thermostat or not,no level for engine.

Re: Club-Lexus by Angrygoat: 1:16pm On Feb 07, 2022
Either your tps is bad or u need a new throttle body.
When u slow down or brake, does it vibrate. At what rpm does it read when u r o gear 1 or brake. Throttle is the brain of the car, if u r ready I can buy u 02 spacer with catalyst. 30k. Your car will revert back to factory mpg. Meaning if your car is wired for 25mpg,u go dey drive am like that, meaning less stops at gas station more unburned fuel like corrolla. No waste money go buy catalystconverter oh ..
DanielsParker:
I own a 2002/2003 Lexus ES 300.

My recent problems
1. Fuel consumption. My fuel consumption has been insane, my car consumes a lot of fuel. I’m not sure I have a working catalyst , is there any other way I can help improve my fuel consumption? Like checking my filters? Sensors ? Do they help ?
If yes, where can I get my sensors checked in Enugu? Any auto scan shop?

2. Secondly, Sometimes whenever I apply brake, my car stops, or whenever I want to accelerate uphill, it stops, making me to start it again. Sometimes if it stops, and I keep my foot on the accelerator, pumping to regain power, it picks up again. Could this be a problem with the fuel pump or fuel filter ?

Hmmmm.
Interesting but misleading to say that "naija weather no need thermostat cos forever e go dey closed"....

Thermostat in the engine is as per design and for a purpose. Note that there are very hot regions in the US where the car is imported from.
Removing your thermostat has significant impact on the engine in the long run.

well depends on the car and type of mechanic.
All the cars i have used and still using all have thermostats. no mechanic at any proper service center has ever recommended removal.

Engine oil is intact, no milky stains.
Coolant doesn't have oil stains as well.
I've replaced with new radiator, the problem still persisted. The difference is that it takes a while to over heat now.

This thermostat debates. One mechanic said remove, another said replaced. But will a white man put thermostat if its not to the advantage of the engine? I am on the fence with this one.

Not sure any of the hoses are leaking tho.. I will still recheck.

If there's no leak, I guess the only other option is head gasket?

Does it make sense to replace it in terms of functionality afterwards or I should just prepare to sell the car.

Thank you

Thermostat, catalyst don't mean shi t to your engine. Dont forget africa esp naija is super hot, like the hottest on earth. A Thermostat inside or not has no effect . Those writing trash abt it her, don't drive a car like the way I do. Your problem starts when u start using wrong engine with gear oil. Don't sell the car, take it to owode or ladipo, bargain ,and let them butcher it and sell as parts.pls

You need to check and recheck all hose.

Happened to my Lexus recently. The water keep going down with no visual leaks.

I have checked all hose with no solution. I even changed radiator cover still no solution. What I didn’t know was that the coolant was leaking only when car is operational.

Because I normally checked for leak when car is cold makes it difficult to find. So one day I got tired and check while car was running. Lo and behold, Coolant was sipping away at the end of one of the hose that goes to the heater core. It was a weak clip.

I am good with DIY, I just removed the air filter box and bought a screw clip. Screwed it and that solve my problem.

Yours might be leaking while car is operational.

Try starting the car and let it warm up then press all hose.
NOTE: The hose will be hot so be careful touching it

Once the vehicle start to overheat, the steam will push out/dry up most of the coolant and water. I also noticed that when you drive it around for a while, the reservoir will be filled up to the brim. The system would have pushed hot water to the coolant reserve. Then you will notice how the heat pushes out the water from the coolant tank unless you take the pipe out for the heat to escape.

My car doesn't just lose the water tho.. It boils the water out of the engine.

I will never not in a million years manage any of my cars with wrong oil.

Btw, are you saying that it is more profitable to sell your car for butcher as against functional? Can you explain how this will be more profitable?

Check for external leaks, first when coolant leaks, air will be introduced into the system which will make coolant boil.

And hopefully they bleed the system after buying the radiator
Re: Club-Lexus by Favouredforever: 12:35pm On Feb 09, 2022
Sigh! If that is the case, to replace or to sell, what do you suggest?

Replace is so easy but give it to mechanic like gazzuzz and co that knows their onions. The setting of the timing matters a lot after gasket replacement

Had similar issues last year, no leakage, water boils and fill the coolant reserve. I just changed my radiator cap for 1k and that's all

I wasn't going to sell a problematic car. The question I asked was if the gasket turned out to be an issue after I replaced, would it make sense to keep using the car or sell it
