Don’t blame Nollywood For Ritual Killings, Actor Yul Edochie Replies House of Reps

Actor Yul Edochie has responded to the House of Representatives claims that Nollywood is partly to be blamed for the increase in the rate of ritual killings across the country.

During the plenary on Wednesday, the House of Representatives called for the declaration of a state of emergency on ritual killings in the country and partly blamed the menace on the Nollywood industry and tasked all stakeholders to begin a national campaign to change the orientation of the people towards the crime.

Reacting to the House of Reps' indictment on Friday, the actor on his Instagram page said,

From when I was a kid in the eighties, I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then, there was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No, be Nollywood cause am. Nollywood is only showing what happens in society. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man.

Fix the country and crime will go away. Don’t blame Nollywood.

Are you even taking those scallywags and their nairaland supporters serious? imagine blaming Nollywood for the increase in ritual killing.. undecided

Just like blaming Hollywood for high school shooting..a reasonable person should be able to differentiate between reality and a movie for entertainment..
Anyone caught should be responsible for his/her crime and face the law.. blaming Nollywood is quite weird tho..
Nigerians and their blame game..they will never take responsibility and solve the issues they rather blame all their life..

Kanayo O Kanayo and Asaba Nollywood movies should share a part of the blame. They glorify blood money and ritual killing as a means to high social status. The plot of the movies is mostly about a poor village man who after being mocked and scorned by family and friends, decides to join a cult of wealthy men with the demand that he donates either his beloved mother or wife in exchange for riches.

Are you a child living in Jupiter?
So when you see a John Wick's movie, you go all out with blazing guns to kill your perceived enemies?

People would rather damn the consequences as long as the movies protrays the shortest route to making money is through ritualism. They would be fascinated by the thrill on the face of their celebrity actor throwing money up the air than any punishment that may come after.

One thing about my people our mind boggling hypocrisy.
Make a post about Nollywood and our Yoruba boys will be calling it crap and claiming they don't watch it, now that "skull mining" epidemic is ravaging our crime infested yourubaland, we are blaming nollywood.
How can what we don't watch influence you?
I am not so proud of being a member of an ethnic group that can't take responsibility for failure of parenthood!

Kids of 16-18 in the US pull out a gun and leave their school mates drop dead and some with injuries just because a John Wick acted it. A teenager was motivated to pull a robbery stunt because a Zubby Michael acted it in movies.

Better stop hiding your head in the sand and face the reality staring you in the face.

Nollywood should also be partly blamed for the increase in ritual killings. Just like watching porn has effect on people whether negative or positive, too much of ritual movies surely will also have effect in the long run.
Talking about consequences, nollywood will make you believe you only bear the consequences only if you fail to perform a given task, maybe a very delicate sacrifice, otherwise everything is cool. Those who finally decide to take that route now have the believe that they can always keep up with the demand to avoid any consequence. Unfortunately except you’re in Christ Jesus, you can never outsmart the devil.

I strongly disagree with Mr. Yul on this.. Nollywood promotes money rituals in their movies and they must put a stop to it.

They come online daily encouraging all manner of evil and wonder why things are going bunkers.

Nothing is out of bounds for these hopeless lots.

Even the adults are super stupid. They carry their babies to stripper parties. Give them alcohol .

Oloriburuku people, just pray someone like me never gets hold of power. I will deal with you lot ruthlessly.
