Chukwueze failed at the afcon

Who is he that they should play to his strength ?

Even Egypt is not playing Liverpool type of football to suit salah

Bro, you got to understand that some players are fan favorites and even when they play poorly, their fans will blame the rest of the team but them

Even Umar Sadiq had a better afcon than Chukwueze

Yes I said it. In our frontline, Chuks was the weakest

Don't worry, if he doesn't improve , he'll go and join his brother in Segunda Division

Nobody had that conversation bro. Everything has been about Okoye, Nwakali, Simon and Chukwueze's poor showing. No one mentioned anything about missing Mikel Obi, stop living in denial.

You are the only one that didn't see the mention of Mikel's name during the afcon. Perhaps due to the large number of pages you missed you decided to skip some pages cos that is the only explanation I can give to this your statement. I recall you weren't really that present here during afcon

This shows Mikel was an average player not world class in a any shred of imagination like some would argue. I mean, just 2 years since his retirement and nobody talks about him, nobody missed him at the nation's cup, he is not remembered by analysts or sports presenters, he just vanished from everybodys memory like he was never in the national team for more than 10 years.
I just saw you mention Mikel that was when I recalled that name. I hope for his own sake he returns back to Nigeria to make some appearances on the screen, otherwise his brand will be dead and buried forever.

Mikel average? Hahahhah. The things we get to read.

His defensive midfield talent is grossly underrated..Mikel Obi has probably been our only real world class outfield player in the last 20 years..

He is one of the most intelligent and technical footballers 9ja ever produced.. I don't think you watched mikel play..

Iwobi played like it was his debut match and he so so impressive, didn't know he has this side of him
Wish he can sustain this form, Frank is proud of him
Alex was massive yesterday, his dribbles, link up play and pressing were top notch

The problem is that many expect iwobi to score goals always but if we observe his style of play he is not type of player. Iwobi is a typical Arsenal groomed player who style is based on simple passes and link up play which makes a core ex Arsenal’s manager wenger type of player

Alex is not that fancy and flamboyant player as many of us mistake him to be but an efficient figure when it comes to high pressing and linking the midfield to the attack. He is not a traditional winger who is expected to take on players, put in crosses or cut in to score but will say is a hybrid winger/AM who loves to drift into the middle always to link up play

Having him in a team most especially when deployed to the flank gives more advantage to the team in terms of creativity and indirectly gifts the team the luxury of playing with 2 attacking midfielders because of his nature of drifting to the middle to create chances

I pray he keeps playing like this. Iwobi is doing well. He was one of the few good performers we had at the AFCON. All I know is that it'll be difficult for Dele Alli to bench Iwobi if Iwobi keeps his form. They just blew £40M for nothing.

Thing is Marcelo is a useless defender at this point in his career and with Mendy injured RM on’t have a choice. Chuks abused him well well like say he resemble Tunisian. grin grin

even if iwobi keeps this form when dele Alli comes to his height and gives the type of performance that earned him the PFA young player of the year back to back iwobi would be rooted to the bench even if he dazzle like okocha the best thing will be moving him to the wing's we want Iwobi to play but damn he won't bench dele Ali wink

Analysing this team is gonna be quite interesting as we are without our biggest gun in Osimhen and one of the most inform Wing forwards in the world in Dennis (we all know the "stories", I believe).

But you see, this team, for the first time in a long while since Mikel Obi left the scene, we have called up a natural Midfield conductor.... Kelechi Nwakali.

Brilliant clip.

Part of the key to pulling this curling shot action off was the quick switch of play to Zaha's wing putting him one on one with a defender enabling him to use his footwork to cut into his favorite right foot and execute the strike.

Strike would have been harder to pull off if he had 2 or 3 defenders on him in a double or triple up. So Olise's diagonal long ball to Zaha was a "perfectly timed" beautiful switch of play to a less concentrated area of the field that caught the opponents a little off-shape on that wing and gave Zaha more room on the left to cut in and shoot.

Chukwueze used to execute similar strikes like this from the edge of the box on the right in his breakout Pro season at Villarreal so I hope he gets his mojo back coz his Afcon showing was really underpar.

TheGoodJoe:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOU4SlUcC2E

TheSuperNerd, remember when I told you about how effective the curling shots from the wing can be against Sides that defend in a compact shape. Look at this goal by Zouma. It shows this in action. Also, the build came from a diagonal long ball.

Simon, Chukwueze, Lookman, Iwobi, should work on this. It is just the same wing cross play. Just that the cross happens with more power, towards the goal.

Excellent post. All I have been saying on the Playmaker role from deep (CM-Playmaker/DLP) is right here.

I hope some learn this and WATCH our lads enough to tell the difference and not depend on write-ups from people who only uses Goals and Assists to rate a Playmaker. Lol

A Playmaker conducts, directs and orchestrates. Goals and Assists are bonuses to his game.

But because some feel it is always about Agenda, they keep going blind to the obvious which is easily observed through simple eye test from a standpoint of genuine neutrality.

Honestly, it's funny that they had to wait for you to bring the definition from an outside source before they finally understand when all that is here is what I have explained and even over-explained overtime. Funny lots. grin

Meliforme:
Deep-lying playmaking.

Who is a deep-lying-playmaker.
A deep-lying playmaker is a holding midfielder who specializes in ball skills such as passing, rather than defensive skills like tackling. -Wikipedia.

What are the roles of a deep-lying playmaker.
Their role is to sit in between the defense and attack, starting attacks by spraying passes in all directions. They dictate play from a rather withdrawn position when compared to modern-day number 10s .Ball retention and defensive concerns aren't major responsibilities of a deep-lying playmaker, their job is to collect the ball from defense, create space, find the players in good positions/making good runs and to make sure the ball reaches them with pin point accuracy.

What positions do deep-lying playmakers occupy on the field of play.
In 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, They occupy one of the central roles in the midfield 4, they pair the defensive midfielder in 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3, 3-5-2. They also have roles in 4-3-3 depending on the coach's philosophy and style of play.

What skillsets do deep-lying playmakers possess.
Vision, creativity, technique.

How do you identify a deep-lying playmaker.
They make a high number of short passes while attempting to find space and openings to dispatch the ball forward.
Their passing accuracy is at insanely high levels.
They calm the play down and make a team tick by sending players off in right directions and getting them past pockets of space behind opposition midfielders.
You can identify them by the long passes they make to wingers and sometimes to center forwards.
Their primary concerns is in making pre-assists, that is making the pass before the final pass, They also make assists.

Wikipedia and Quora mirrored my stance and stand on the concept of a deep-lying playmaker. I lifted many paragraphs verbatim from Quora, only the first paragraph is from Wikipedia
