This is true and more in football. I have tried to get a very good 13 year old kid trials with various football clubs and been told it's too late. Most pro footballers you see today have been with their clubs since the age of 5,6,7,8. That's why you see Reece James, Mount etc pictures at Chelsea since under 8 level. One of our family friend just got their boys into Liverpool at age 5.

Footballers are highly skilled, and by the time they sign their first pro-contact, they have put in way more than 10,000 hours ensuring their touch, passing, choices on the ball are up to a professional standard. Same goes for most other sports like Tennis, Golf etc. You and I can play some great passes every now and then, but I assure you we can't keep the ball 3 times out of ten in the speed of a professional game, whereas a pro-footballer will be expected to keep it 9 times out of 10.

Football is one the most highly skilled team sports, maybe ice hockey might compete with it for the level of skill required to make it pro. It seems obvious that these Nigerian players are turning pro in NFL with less than 1,000 hours of training time just due to their athletic gift, not because they are skilled. How will you meet a sport for the first time at 18 and become a professional by 22? In football, you won't even make our local 5-a-side standards with that level of experience, talkless of pro.

you are being bias, which distinctive skill do footballers have? We all played street football at some point, infact it's arguable that endurance is the main ability that all footballers need, I still can't think of a football skill asides dribble that is distinctive enough to justify your claims
