I have done the unofficial one with WES and it falls at a 3.6.

I mean, if you can see the image I posted and still make a conclusion that it is likely a B-, it shows more reason for me to have the WES evaluation done. People unused to European grades might just make fallacious conclusions based on the grading system and numbers.

And BTW, for Oxford University, a 14.5/20 is their equivalence of a First class.
Why not challenge the school. University of Rhode Island is a good school. I strongly believe they can’t just manufacture grading system. Go ahead and do the official conversion.

A school can’t just deny you admission like that. If your GPA is a 3.6/4.0. Do a WES conversion and mail it to them.

It is the admission specialist that do the conversion.

Dear sir, you should totally get your degree evaluated by WES. Most internal evaluation done by US universities are not favorable to international students. I honestly don’t know the criteria they use.

Besides, the actual evaluation increases your cgpa. That 3.6 Unofficial gpa will increase to either a 3.7 or 3.8

If I have a dependent (wife) travelling with me (F1 student) to USA. Am I just to fill a ds160 form for her and another for myself alone, pay visa fee of myself alone and book visa appointment/ application and use her as accompanying person OR, I have to fill DS160 for her and another for myself and pay visa fee for her and for myself and schedule visa appointment separately filling each other as accompanying person in each visa application page?

Everything else is separate except the appointment. Different ds160, both will pay visa fee but you can schedule visa date together

Hello all, I think I've asked this question before but still not sure I got anyone to respond...or maybe I missed the response. Myself and my wife got a fully funded PhD and Grad Assistantships. When we apply for Visa, how do we go about it and how do we sort out the critical issue of home ties and all. We have a 1year plus son.
Also how do we sort out the issue of SOA too.

What deficits do you have?

If none, then, I doubt if SOA is critical in your case

Good day sir.

Big congratulations to you and your family for the offers at hand, big one. You guys’ boy must be proud to have you.

Quick one:

My own 2cents would be:

Your wife should go (like attend the interview first) with the baby. You would be here for them as the home tie.

You go after (probably another location) to face your own too.

Yeah, possibly getting “mixup in interview dates”, you guys should sha go separately as F1s.
To do that, start looking out appointments dates in and on time. If she can get for May/June then you get for July/August.

During the second interview, the question of ARE YOU MARRIED would/might comes up?

Ofc, YES. The problem would now be how to give convincing answer in where he/her is,:

YES! “She’s currently in The State undergoing her PhD program in so so, where she’s fully funded and carrying out research with Prof this and that”

Another possible question of, WHY ARE ALSO GOING FOR YOUR STUDY while she’s doing hers too:

You: I got a FULLY FUNDED OFFER (let them know it’s an OFFER not that you’re really ‘into it’) to study this and that under the supervision of this and that, who’s one of your research mentor during your Msc/Undergraduate or so.

Make the VO understand you guys are like a family that reaching the ‘EDUCATION zenith’ is a goal, and you’re a goal getter.

The most fun thing here is that, you guys are not going to be liability (fully funded) to them, so they won’t even think of funds.
Home ties: just play the Education role and investment; post graduate plans (if possible let them know you and your wife have a plan to lecture in same University to be the 1st couple lecturers in from your home town (lamba, lol) and co.

Getting a female VO is even advisable for the person that would go last, so that the ‘story card’ would work.

My humble opinions; GOOD LUCK to YOU and YOURS, Sir!

In my opinion, they can both schedule and interview together. Reasons being;
1. They are legally married.
2. They have an infant/obviously the marriage is young, hence, need to not keep far apart.
3. They are both fully funded, hence, hence, no financial pressures.
4. They can say that it is their goal as a family to graduate the same time with PhDs, and to pursue careers and family.

5. The husband or who ever got admission last could say, he/she decided not to just go sit idle in USA, while spouse is earning a doctorate, hence, decision to seek an impactful stay.

Your Program starts in May and you are still looking for normal date.
You can request for an EA and get a favorable date. The date could be in this month sef.

My friend's program also starts in May, he requested for EA on Jan23 and got an interview date for Jan27.

I know there is a standard procedure but sometimes it's not the case. Don't delay yourself.
Wow! Good to hear. Please can I DM you?

That’s the reply I got from them for a person just yesterday (16th Feb, 2021). So you’re so ON TRACK Bro.

Goodluck!
Thanks for your prompt response bro.

Am i on track or na me dey see things in an Ijebu way?

Oh! Lol.

Just use standard delivery. $10!

Don’t bother with courier, because you don’t really need the hard copy. They would send soft copy for you after the evaluation. That you will be using for school(s) applications.

You get?

Where, Ds160 or Cgi portal?

Ds160: When you are about to login you would see where pick location, pick your choice.

Cgi portal: Play around your home page (after you logged in) you’d see UPDATE profile or so, just play around and pick your choice location.

Don’t forget to update both portal to same location when you choice it. To make them match. Don’t pick Lag and see Abuja when you print your interview appointment letter out oh.

Goodluck Champ!

Thanks, I appreciate your response

You'd have to cancel current appointment, restart the process and choose the new location. You won't be able to switch again after that.

Thanks for your response

But I’m not sure you understand me o
Me I’m saying that using that ETX will be faster since it is email to email from my school and WES
Or is it the same time frame?

Sincerely, I don’t really get.

But if I understand, so far it’s an official communication means between your school and Wes please use to save cost. I remember we do use fax the other year to send
a requirement’ to Wes and they do acknowledge it, just to tell you Wes don’t ‘discriminate’.

No funding

ME: Good morning sir ( with a smile)

ME: I’m going to ODU to study for MBA with concentration in healthcare administration, although it only states MBA in my I-20
VO: (checks to see)…oh okay I see, what’s your highest degree
ME: BSN
VO: why would you be going for MBA when you have BSN?
ME: My major dream/goal is healthcare administration but it requires a pre-course in science related subject so I chose nursing
VO: (murmured something like oh you mentioned that-referring to the healthcare administration) What will this course do for you when you graduate?
ME: oh! I intend to come back to Nigeria to specifically work at Ikeja General Hospital to make an impact in the prioritization of care because I’ve been hearing lots of bad reports there.
VO: What do you currently do?
ME: I work as a nurse assistant at l hospital
VO: For how long?
ME : umm I started last year nov
VO: Have you been out of the country?

VO: I see family funds here, who will be sponsoring you?
ME: said my parents and their occupation
VO: what did you say your mother does again?
ME: I repeated that
VO: And your father?
ME: I repeated that too ( I sensed that he was looking for a flop here, like an inconsistency in what I was saying and thank God he didn’t find any)
VO: (placed hands on the white paper and suddenly removed his hand there again, I’m like warrapen?) Do you have your old passport here with you, Can I see it?
ME: Gave him
VO: how many siblings do you have? What do they do?
ME: I mentioned them and told the occupation
VO: (now sitting to check his system dunno what he was checking but I guess he was confirming where I had been)
ME: fingers crossed…God will do it!
VO: Okay your application looks good, I will be approving your visa, will be holding onto your passport, the information on this paper will tell you how to pick up your passport. Congratulations.
ME: Thank you sir. Do have a great day!

I’m grateful to those I reached out to that helped me on this platform, someone that specifically guided me with “keeping my answers simple and straight” another that saved me last minute with my employment status & ds-form little that I know It had a big impact! The other person that agreed for mock reviews with me, the one that gave short fast answers lol was still useful, the one that connected me to the group and To Almighty Baba God who remains the same yesterday, today and the rest of the days to come! *He’s faithful!
