Some politicians are trying to lure us to stage a coup: Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, has issued a stern warning to politicians attempting to lure military officials to stage a coup against the Muhammadu Buhari regime.

Mr Irabor gave the warning while speaking at a virtual media chat titled “Open Ears Dialogue” on Friday.

“The leadership of the armed forces is also telling politicians to leave us alone, do not mix us up with issues that have to do with politics and do not use political inclinations and persuasions to want to lure anybody from the armed forces into the idea of having to undertake coups and all,” warned Mr Irabor.

According to him, the leadership of the armed forces are of the opinion that a coup would do “more harm than good” in the present regime, hence it was not an option to be contemplated even by the younger military operatives.

“The armed forces of Nigeria have nothing whatsoever to do with anything that has to do with coup. We have learned our lessons over the years and we have come to our conclusion that coups will do us more harm than good,” he said.

He stated categorically that “this is what the leadership of the armed forces is passing down the chain, and educating everyone under our command that there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to contemplate that.”

Reiterating his standpoint on the subject of coup in Nigeria, Mr Irabor emphasized “We will not. That’s the reason why perhaps the discussions you may have been having in the media, we have been insulated from such discussions because they already know our viewpoint in this regard.”

Mr Irabor’s statement comes in the wake of successful coups staged against democratic governments in other African countries.

It is also asserted that the worst side of democracy is better than any form of military rule.
However I feel that Nigeria in particular and Africa in general still need the military rule cus of the peculiarity of our politicians.

You're right sir, such politicians are not even different from the ones in power, they just want a coup for their selfish reasons.

God bless Gen Irabor

God bless the Nigeria Arm Forces.

Soldiers have been the ones most hard hit by the wastefulness of this administration. The Arabs had the Arab Spring not too long ago as a result of bad governance, West Africa is beginning to experience military coups because of the same thing. The politicians in Nigeria needs to quit taking citizens, especially soldiers for granted. No one was born to be cannon fodder just so you can keep earning blood money to send ur kids abroad!

Ogbeni, go and take several seats. You should be more concerned about your poorly equipped and corrupt military.

Today's Nigeria's army doesn't have the guts to stage a coup - those brave soldiers who could do that have already left the stage.

Today's soldiers are cowards who are more interested in intimidating civilians and looting money assigned for improving the military.

No be the military rule put us for this mess we dey?

Na military cancel the regional government we dey run before, come concentrate power for Centre.

Na military destroy education, by taking over schools and colleges from missionaries.

Na military introduce Federal Character, thereby giving preference to quota system over competence.

I can go on and on. The destruction the military started is what put us in this mess.

Should I also state that since we return to Democracy in 1999, 2 of our Presidents (15years combined) have been from the military?

No say this kind of stuffs again oo. shocked

if you have information about any coup, say it now. Mention names! It is felony to know those "luring you" and not mentioning their names.

Gbam! Believe a corrupt Naija soldier at your own peril. I see a coup happening before the elections so that the North can retain power at the expense of the other regions especially after giving us the worst democratically elected president since they know they wouldn't be able to sell us another dud again from their region under the guise of democracy...this I have seen! @FalseProphet2 over to you...

They've tried several times but failed, especially Northern elites who have benefited from the military rule since 1960 . That's why they're sharing guns with their youths in the forests to disrupt Nigeria's peace.

That white helicopter seen dropping guns to terrorists in the north last year hasn't been probed till date. They know what theyre doing. That's why I've always advocated for secession so we can witness true development as a region and country.

They said all those moves were a rumour during buratai admin as COAS but in every runour, there's always an iota of truth. They never wanted democracy in the first place. Their body language has always shown. They wanted to keep living large on tax payers money where nobody would ask them how they spent money or amass heavy projects to their region at the expense of others.
