The essence of uniforms is to make everybody appear similar with no fear or favour.

If some members of the police force are to waer religious garbs, the police will no longer appear to be neutral and it will polarize the police along religious lines.

By the way, what will happen if all non-muslims also decide to waer their religious garbs to work?
So, a small hijab will subdue top, trouser, shoe and berret?

Ode oponu lawyer, he actually made the government's point and the need to be neutral.

Being neutral means you allow people to freely practice their religion as enshrined in our constitution. You can not discriminate against any religion or how it's practiced and propagated. Wearing hijabs is how people practice and propagate their religion.

These ignorant kabukabu lawyers actually reason like 2-year-old kids, their own religious arrogance comes first before Nigeria and other religious practices.

In America and the western world where you coppy demiicracy, they wear hijabs..

Should we allow traditionalist to be wearing their clothes?

As long as it does not harm anyone in any way, I don't care. If they can endure it.

It's not about subduing other forms of dressing but it introduces a very obvious division in an organization that ought to be neutral especially in an artificially created heterogeneous country already battling a religious inspired terrorism.

Our founding fathers like Ahmadu Bello , Tafawa-Balewa, Azikiwe, Awolowo, Aminu Kano, M.I Okpara and SL Akintola who negotiated our independence settled for religious neutrality and they knew what they were doing.

In Britain and the US where such religious garbs are permitted, they already have well entrenched systems that work largely based on merit regardless of religious favouritism/bias.

I don’t have a problem with any religion because I don’t subscribe to any but I think when it comes to public service, we should de-emphasize religion and promote what can improve service delivery.

Will wearing hijab to school help the students learn better? Will wearing hijab help a policewoman do her job better? The only thing we’re going to achieve with this hijab thing is to further divide ourselves and promote religious bigotry. It adds nothing to improve the system.

Kadoso, there is a strange trend I am beginning to notice on this forum. You have the propensity to be making sense on non- Tinubu matters. grin

It's not about how you do your job, it's all about the democracy you claim to be observing, it's about freedom of religion, freedom of choice and practice.

Many countries around the world including America, Canada where we copied democracy from, they let Muslim police officers wear their hijabs and Sikhs wear their turbans regardless of any ability or capacity to do the job or not, it's about their constitutional rights as human beings.

You can not go against your own constitution or contradict what you stand for as a Nation.

You can not be trying to be a civilized station while being repressive and uncivilized.

God Bless Nigeria, this is a great step in the right direction.

Merits or what's entrenched or not has nothing to do with basic fundamental human rights and religious freedom.

Allowing Muslim police officers to wear hijabs is in line with the constitution and religious neutrality, they are not forcing you to wear it, they are only following the Nigerian constitution and allowing Nigerians the freedom their constitution mandated.

If civilized nations don't see anything wrong and are civilized enough to obey their constitution, are you saying you are not civilized enough to do the same thing or to abide by your own constitution?

they've brought this stupidity from Kwara to National police force? so Islamic police force we have now?

Buhari is trying to fulfil his promise of Islamizing all Nigeria but I tell you it will not work, hijab in police force is a dead on arrival

I don't hate Islam but I hate discrimination in a security agency like this corrupted force

I think the best solution is for a referendum to hold and everyone should go their separate ways.. these Northerners are not progressive people atal but religious fanatics..

So traditionalists in police too now should wear their juju necklace and igbadi to be beating suspects with charms abi?
Anything islam must always come with trouble, same way they are misbehaving in Kwara state today.

Nigeria is NOT and WILL NEVER be an islamic country. All these one you people are doing is joke. When people ready for una, una head go correct.
Would the referendum separate us base on religion or ethnicity? Think before you talk! The problem of Nigeria Christians with Muslims has been Hijab as if it is enforced on them as well. Leave Muslim women alone with their hijab . Wearing it is non of your business, in as much as it doesn't stop you from worshiping or calling Jesus your God!

Slow pokes wan just islamize everything! Don't be surprised when you see those who do not have on anything to associate with Islam getting unjust treatments, getting killed more and being sent to deadly zones.

Do not also be surprised to see those with hijab on and stuff like that pardoning people who indulge in crimes that identify as moslems.

No matter what , any/every government hand/agency should be and is ought to be neutral in religion matters.

Jokers, even your Masters US and UK allow Muslim female police officers use their hijab if they wish to.

It is obvious your hatred for Islam supersedes your desires to worship your masters US and UK.

Oga abeg free those pple, they hate to hear the truth. Don't know why Islaam gives them sleepless nights.

Same nonsense was said when Soludo introduced Islamic banking, is it not doing well now?
