larride: If it wasn't Aguiyi Ironsi, it would be someone else. The tribe is not important. Which African country didn't fall to military coup after independence, and which military leader will choose to rule a loose federation rather than a unitary Government? Military by nature is a Unitary structure. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Kloppo:Lol. The mentality of the average Nigeria needs to change. Even if you pick a random Nigeria and put that person in power, the first thing in his mind will be to steal. Alot of us are replica of our leaders. |

nihilistjnr: The point is that it’s their region, he has the right to hire anyone they want just the same way the West and East has the right to hire anyone they like. The interview was very clear. He was pursuing a Northernization policy for the Northern Region where all key post in the region are held by Northerners. He says if they can’t find a northerner to fill the post, they will hire white expatriate or other Nigerians on contract basis. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that policy since the remaining regions were also running a “Our region” policy. 5 Likes |

Ibime: Yes, it it wasn’t Aguiyi Ironsi, it could’ve been someone else I agreed but the fact of the matter is that it was Aguiyi Ironsi that gave us the unitary system of government we currently run and he get the blame 100%. If it was someone else that did it, the person will also get the blame. My point for that post was to point out to those blaming Ahmadu Bello for instituting a Northernisation policy in the Northern region to show he was a tribalist. If we use that logic, all of them during that period are tribalist. 3 Likes |

Kloppo:Yes alot of us are doing very very well in tech. The politicians are not making the average Nigerian to be bloodsuckers cos I am sure there are alot of good people who mean well for the country. You didn't talk abt the ones who go abroad and commit all sort of crime. I don't think the leaders are to be blamed entirely, instead alot of us need to change our mentality. 1 Like |

Kloppo: Umar Sadiq was trolled on the basis on his tribe. Sadiq was called a product of quota system by a lot of people on Twitter during that period. Both Awoniyi and Iwobi were not trolled because of their tribe. They were rightly trolled for playing absolute rubbish but no one was calling their tribe into it. It was only Umar Sadiq that they brought tribe into it. 5 Likes |

Odunharry: The blame goes both way. Leaders and the followers even though the leaders share the highest part of the blame. They are the one that’s meant to wipe everyone into line, build strong institutions to ensure that people do the right things and a deterrence put in place to punish offenders. The problem now is that the rot is so deep that even those that will run the “strong institutions” have been corrupted badly. |

larride: We Nigerians get our own for body but we are not worse than Americans and British people,walahii.....most atrocities we commit, it is mostly out of frustration, poverty and evil things our leaders do unto us..... Why is that given Equal playing field with the whites after we JAPA and we dey dust them and perform better than them in all fields.... |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by larride(m): 12:09am On Mar 30, 2022 |
Odunharry: This is why people must join fully and participate in politics. If these old guards retire, some will take over from them, well meaning Nigerians must position themselves to take power from them. But then when I look at the kind of politics some of our youths are playing, I only shake my head. Even among APC that I belong to, it always seems like a drowning voice in a thick wilderness. We cannot claim to want change and still want to do things the old way except maybe we are deceiving ourselves. 4 Likes |

Kloppo: I think you are conflating two issues together. That we excel in our chosen fields outside the country doesn’t equate to doing evil. Have you tried to go collect transcript in a State/FG university and see the stress and trouble those secretary will give you? Are they also our leaders? Are they not some people mothers, aunt, uncles, fathers and the likes? We are just inherently wicked irrespective of the fact whether we are brilliant in our chosen career or not. Abba Kyari was celebrated as a super cop (brilliant in his career chosen) until his atrocities was revealed to the whole world. While I do agree that sometimes the system does affect the way we turn out but I feel it’s a lazy excuse to use. Even with the current situation in the country, there are still people that do the right thing at the right time. 4 Likes |

Odunharry: Who are using under age voters in the north, who use/sponsor thugs to intimidate voters, godfatherism, ballot box stealing, consensus, media propaganda machine,using/paying footballers, celebrities to sway voters, weaponizing poverty to win votes etc are all this the fault of average Nigerians with pvc? |

larride:Alot of people have given up in this country. Telling them to be involve in politics is a waste of time. Come 2023, I bet you alot of us especially from the South will either be playing football or indoors doing nothing when it's election time.. Maybe we need to tell people elections are not won online. Maybe we need to tell people to still come out and vote even though alot of us believe our vote doesn't count.. I don't know, but I think something is wrong with this country. 1 Like |

Kloppo: Oga, there are too many contradictions in this post! The foreign countries you are speaking of made conscious efforts in ensuring their system/ institutions are functional and give people a fair shot. We must stop making these excuses and comparisons like Nigeria has made the same level of effort in truth to secure their nation. Mostly out of frustration, poverty and evil caused by who? Nigeria is not worse than Britain and US but there is a stark difference in our realities. Do you think Nigerians who immigrate to Britain/ US maintain the same mentality they had in Nigeria? Absolutely not! You can’t bring those predatory behaviors because everyone has to play by the rules unlike naija where there is always a way and that is why we progress in foreign countries.. If the system/ institutions of Britain/ US were porous and as vulnerable, Nigerians will manipulate and exploit the same system. We absolutely have to change the orientation in Nigeria, it is just too predatory. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Odunharry: Well if people don’t come out and vote, then they have given their power to chose their leader into the hand of someone else who might not vote for who they want to. Voters education is important. If vote doesn’t count, politicians won’t be trying to buy votes during election. The truth is that no one person will wave a magic wand and everything will fall into place immediately but things can change if we elect reasonable people across board continuously. We can begin to see changes. Government is continuum, we must have a plan on the kind of leaders we want, what we expect from them and hold them accountable. Votes do count and in 2023, we will have chance to elect those that will pilot the affairs of the country for another 4 years. Both for states and FG. Starting from House of assembly members, house of reps, senators, governors and President, we must be intentional about who we vote for. |

Roland17: We like to deceive ourselves a lot. Those that will refuse to queue properly when in Nigeria and want to do shortcut will go out of the country and behave themselves. While I do agree that the government needs to make examples of a lot of people to serve as deterrence but why must the government always have tell us to behave like normal people before we do? I have come to a conclusion that the mentality now is “This country is useless, I can do whatever I want and get away with it” not knowing that we just keep making the rot go deeper. |

Kloppo: No race is more intelligent than another. The top 10% of people drive the innovation in a country and provide opportunities for everyone, even the bottom 10% For a Nigerian to travel abroad, he or his parents must have amassed some scholarship or money either through education or business so those Nigerians abroad are drawn from the top 10% of Nigerians for the most part. So you can't compare them to the whole 100% population in another country. And which country do you think is benefitting from that brain drain, still the Oyinbos who you say your people are performing better than. On the other hand, we have many Nigerians who came to UK to engage in blue collar labour when immigration laws were looser who are not from the cream of society and their kids make up a large part of the drill/knife-crime culture in London today, both Nigerians, Ghanaians etc. As to whether we deserve our leaders, that depends on our democratic ideals. People generally deserve the leaders they elect. That's why we are always arguing APC vs PDP, supporting authoritarian regimes like Putin/China and co instead of aspiring to democratic ones, or defending the most corrupt amongst us because they are from our tribe, and our expectations of our leaders are the low of the low. Do you know there will be a public outrage, public enquiry and some resignations in England football structure if England failed to qualify because they played on a pitch not fit for dogs, like Super Eagles did today? We won't hear phiam about it in Nigeria tomorrow. Anything that comes from such mindset is deserved. |
