She is just one unfortunate innocent soul lost in the tragic attack. There was a Northern guy who also tweeted how they should pray for his sister who was on the train and they had not heard from her. After some hours he tweeted again how he just held the lifeless body of his sister who was killed in the attack and said she was to be buried immediately.
What crime did the young girl commit and why have people not even shown any painful feeling towards that.

Is it because she is a northerner and people believe it's her own people that killed her?

The doctor's case is more pronounced because she tweeted I've been shot before she eventually died, and her friends put up the news of her death.

We have not seen any other post of people putting up the identity of their friends or family who died in the attack.

I am a northerner and I wish to state that you are probably ignorant of the reason why Chinelo's death trended. While she bled, she twitted that she's been shot and appealed for prayers but some Nigerians on Twitter mocked her, someone even asked if she was already dead. The attitude of those insensitive youth is the reason why her death trended. Some sadly saw in it an avenue to attack yorubas, others attacked APC claiming those guys were APC supporters, a claim that cannot be substantiated.

That fact that the girl tweeted after being shot is the reason for the attention she is getting because many APC members tot she was chasing cloud. That being said,the north seems not to value their lives,if they do they will hit the stress in protest for the deteriorating security condition in the north. Remember this was the only girl that posted from that train. Hell was loosen on her just for being Igbo. It's not just ignorance, but Foolishness. If we should check very well now, you will realised that she was not the only igbo that was killed in that train. There were other minority groups from the South who were victims too but only one name was resounding, and still resounding even now (Chinelo).

Forget tribalism, Igbos were not the only one resounding that name, I know of yoruba people who were distributing and mourning her on Facebook.

I think what played out was the fact
1. She was a young pretty doctor.
2. She tweeted her situation, plus the contrasting and cold reply that sold her far and large.
3. She was already planning to leave the country this very week before the sad event.

Anyway, RIP to the innocent ones who were victim of the foolish stupid choices of the hungry BMCs.

There's a difference between the online and offline society.
Go to the offline society and you will find people making reference to this same incident without being specific about Chinelo.
She's getting enough attention because she did something differently by reaching out to the online community even at the point of her death.

I've always taught and openly criticised northerners of ethnic bigotry and religious fanatism but I've come to realize that northerners are even better.
maybe the bigots in the north do so cause of illiteracy but that can't be said of the south.
when the death of a soldier comes in, they rush to check if it's a Christian so they can express hate towards north. everything is bigotry to them.
all this happened in the face where by the chief of defence staff is a christai. from the south.
the highest ranking military personnel in the country.
but you see them, they always have a way of justifying every foolishness.
they couldn't respect dead people.

Was thinking same but just chilled because of the kinda emotional, region biased people we have in this country who have been so divided along party, religion and tribal line. It sadden my heart such pains had happened to families and Nigeria at large but singling out an individual tells a lot about our non-patrotism towards Nigeria at large.

It is very disheartening but the one thing I detest about some of us as Nigerians is the fact we forget about the actions of others when it's not them... I've read and seen tweets and post on social networks where people from the southern part rejoiced over the death of northerners... You see statements like: "I don't have RIP to waste", "it's their brother, let them enjoy it", "good for them" and I wonder what have become of our ability to show sympathy for the lost ones and their family. But paying back same way shows how foolish some persons have become. No one rejoices over the death of his or her fellow country man.
I'm really concerned about this damage it has caused the nation at large

Most of the people who use the internet are from the South. Especially this site.

Also, people identify with a pretty face. (Pretty girl syndrome). In the USA, a missing girl case gets traction if the girl is a blonde haired white girl. Same for murdered girl. Other colors, especially black women, meh.

Here in Nigeria, Chinelo is a pretty Southern gal. Most people who use the internet are Southerners like her...from the middle and upper classes. They would identify with her far more than a Northerner.

It's part psychological, part tribal, part disunity....

You people are not honest in this space.

Chi's gender, tribe and beauty has nothing to do with the emphasis being placed on her death.

Why her death stood out among the many is because....

1. She called out for help on Twitter.

2. The nature of the responses she got from Twitter.

Supposing she didn't post on Twitter, nobody would have know that she was there until at least the time others were discovered.

Nobody will have any reason to be more angry over her death if the tweeps didn't use her call for help to catch cruise.
