As at 2013 Nigerian universities were short of 13,877 PHD holders.....so if wike sacked the ones on ground that are still short of over 13k where will he see them to replace?

U think academics is a Bank teller job u can sack and replace staff the same week ba? If it was that easy do u think people like Obasanjo that are very strong willed wouldn't have long sacked all lecturers and damn all consequences? El-Rufai sacking incompetent civil servants is quite different from ASUU issue.

ASUU is enjoying a monopoly which bequeats them right to always have upper hand in negotiation with their employer (the government). In fact some prof leave federal institutions for privately owned ones and they don't get to replace them due to their speciality. If a surgeon leaves Lasuth in Lagos and joins Babcock Teaching hospital for better pay and better condition of service, do u think it will be easy for Lasuth to replace him just like that?

ASUU are just a bunch of entitled people, I remember how many times they cancelled session when I was still in school claiming they were tired and after sending us home for months almost a year, They all resumed to private Universities to teach and get paid double

You are forgetting who the employer and employee is here, and trade union in an environment like Nigeria where many people are jobless, You remember one time Doctors went on strike and Lagos state govt put their roles up for hire, they got thousands of application from many doctors who have been jobless before

I already argued some time back, Public University is becoming a waste of time for many courses especially for Technical course, You are almost certain going to learn more useful stuff online than in those Universities where your lecturer will be teaching you Fortran77

The government obviously knows more than u do. They know how they've failed in so many ways and they know sacking the present lecturers and calling for applications will lead nowhere. Even when the foreign lecturers come, they won't spend up to a year in total before jumping ship and leaving the government hanging in the balance. The government will surely go back crawling to the same lecturers they sacked.

Funny enough sef, we presently have a dearth of PHD holders in Nigeria. This is why u see some people use as much as 7 years for a PhD programme cos they have to wait for when another supervisor will be free to be assigned to them.

ASUU is only trying to hold a failed government to ransom to get what they want like most people would do in their shoes
