1) the government shot down amaechis proposal - but failed to acknowledge the risk and provide an altenative. quite simply the whole FEC is a band of incompetent ediats who refused to plan for what we all knew would happen. at least amaechi was proactive enough to initiate a conversation about this issue.

the onus would have been on the FEC to vet and invite other vendors

2) the security solution is really just addressing the symptom. the actual issue is unchecked bandits. the bandits took over the roads so people moved to trains. the bandits attacked the airport, so people moved to trains. then the bandits attacked the trains

the constant in these three scenarios - the bandits. all the technology in the world will not be enough as it will make our rail the worlds most expensive rail line in the world to operate. the solution is to deal with the bandits once and for all.

This throws up a lot of red flags.
Why would a contractor incorporated less than 2 years ago, a turnover of less than 100mln and no history of having completed similar projects be awarded a contract to the tune of billions of naira??

There is more to this than he is letting on, this man is a greedy, corrupt pig.

I keep saying Amaechi is one blame shifter most times. When he had a press statement on the subject matter, he blamed others for not processing it without telling the truth that he is not detailed enough. How will you expect FEC to approve project without details? Or how do you expect FEC to approve a company that has no record on such installation? If anything goes wrong, it will be a wasted resources. He even ruined everything by saying it more like test run. Test run with N3.7 Billion?

I keep saying he is not worthy to be a president as his ego and always trying to present himself as okay while others are to be blamed will ruin the country.

Having armed escorts physically on the trains is a more realistic option
For now our rails should be used to carry goods only i.e container shipments and forget about carrying people.
if the federal government was serious on its own , should have awarded the contract to another company. I know some of you will use this as a campaign against amaechi.

Government needs to be responsible and jettisoned suspicions.

Right now you don't have to duel too long on this but take the bulls by the horns through farming. Urban Farming Precisely. This thing you can grow anywhere there is space or water. It requires little efforts. Check the YouTube video the right inspirations.

If Hon. Rotimi Ameachi truly has, or he is nursing a Presidential ambition, I will advise he should quietly rescind such dream as of now....and allow himself to be subjected to further personal growth.

He still has a long way to go...he is not ready to be Nigeria's President

Like one poster up there said, installing those ultra expensive stuff is not the smartest way out of this quagmire. The terrorists can easily vandalise it and we're back to square one. The solution lies in the political will to pursue these terrorists to the gate of hell and exterminate them.

Which useless equipment does he (Amaechi) want to acquire for 3 billion plus that has no brand name? is he the one manufacturing them?

Well that is one perspective.

Another perspective is how much is all that going to cost and how much is the rail generating?
In other words is it a viable project?

It is tempting for politicians to produce these "infrastructure" toys but are we ready for them
ASUU is on strike and our young people are restless
I do not agree with these infrastructure "investment" at this time

Human development i.e education should be our priority
People bombing trains feel they are not stakeholders in Nigeria.
A military approach will entail more spending and might not work.

How do we make everyone feel they are stakeholders in the Nigerian project?
Imagine Amaechi request 3 billion . Does the train generate 3 billion? Where will the money come from?

.

.a well developed functioning rail line gives more money than crude oil, just do your research.

[ Read first before comment dear, the equipment will signal to relevant authorities once the railway lines are been tampered. So that they will stop the train from passing through it until the obstacles are removed and the surrounding area cleared of terrorists then train will continue to move without any further threat

Few minutes after the attack, fat Amechi was already yapping about how he needs over 3 billion to fix the limited damage to the train tracks and the train itself. The way they quote billions, it's as if they're desperately trying to loot everything in sight. Having lived in China for years and knowing how cheap some of these things are, I can assure you that even the Chinese officias involved in these endless dubious negotiations to build certain infastructural projects in Nigeria, would be wondering if Nigerians are a different specie of terribly corrupt homo sapiens because of their avid desperation to loot their own country bare, at any given opportunity..
Quote me anyday, that train attack was orchestrated and sponsored by politicians like ameachi for their monetary gain!!! Thats the same reason why banditary will continue

So apt.

We have spent our scarce resources recklessly without recourse to carrying the masses along. The Nigerian project must be done by the Nigerian people.

Signing off Billions of dollars to Chinese people to come and build railway lines in this century is an insult to we Nigerians. Railway technology is ancient and I see no reason we keep signing off corruption induced contracts to private individuals when we're home to 95M extremely poor people.

The so called infrastructure who is going to maintain them? Operators of the rail are all Indians, Chinese and Lebanese. This is the reason the masses will continue to destroy them.

We have ministry of works with their highly skilled professionals under their employ but idle. Youth Unemployment is above 30%.

But we prefer to give out jobs to Chinese and Lebanese and pay them salaries of 20 Nigerians.

If we must move forward and develope our infrastructure it must be through public effort. Issuing out contracts for our critical infrastructure has never worked and it will never work. Our universities must become solution centres.

Norway is building world's first submerged floating tube bridge and the project is handled by Norwegian Public Roads Administration in collaboration with the 3 largest Norwegian Universities and alot of their PhD students have taken it up as part of their studies.

And to achieve this we must push out unpatriotic elements in the seat of power.

We're building infrastructure with no input from our universities. No wonder no body is bothered about the closure of our universities.

We deposit this in the bank. They should develop all the infrastructure while leaving 95M extremely poor people to survive by themselves and let's see if those infrastructure will still be standing in a few years.

Lol! When people starts suspecting you, there's no amount of explanation that you will present that will convince them that you're actually telling the truth. That project worth that amount when you begin to compare it to the international exchange market because you're going to get those equipment from outside. Those gadgets that would contain professional sensors and cameras no be beans. You'll begin to wonder why Dubai spend billions of dollars on a 1 kilometres project, the reason is simple, THEY WANT THE BEST! Assuming he budgeted for a N2milion surveilance system & when it fails to work after two years, all of you talking now would say he lacked competence. Ur responses just shows how broke Nigeria wants to remain... Pity!

There's nothing like that when it's has to do with security. He's not even an elected official, the will to secure the rail line wasn't there . If the will was there the project will be carried out regardless of what the minister want. Or is it not somebody that was appointed by the President?
