Anambra begins enforcement of payment of N514 billion unpaid taxes on businesses, individuals
Chike Olisah by Chike Olisah March 29, 2022
The Anambra State Government through the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has announced the commencement of the enforcement of payment of all outstanding tax liabilities by businesses and individuals in the state with effect from April 1.

The outstanding tax bill which was put at N513.9 billion by the outgone Chairman of AIRS, Dr David Nzekwu, was captured in the agency’s database under the Anambra Social Service Identity (ANSSID) number, and is owed by about 2.1 million taxpayers.

According to a signed statement by the Deputy Director/Head, Taxpayer Education and Enlightenment Team of AIRS, Mrs Sylvia Tochukwu-Ngige, this was made known by the newly appointed Chairman of AIRS, Mr Richard Madiebo.

According to NAN, Madiebo said that the enforcement would include social bills, including signages and waste management.

What the former Chairman of AIRS is saying
Nzekwu said, “We have generated a total collectable bill of N513.9 billion as at January 2022 against 2.1 million taxpayers in the state.

”This means that if my successor can ensure payment of this bill by indebted individuals, and they begin to make payment, the government will have a lot of money.’’

The new Chairman of AIRS talks about tax enforcement
Madiebo urged Anambra residents to check the ANSSID portal for their status and, thereafter, proceed with relevant actions of filing and payment.

He said that those who were yet to pay should go to the nearest commercial bank with their ANSSID number to pay their taxes and/or levies.

Recall that as part of his bid to ensure a more efficient and effective tax collection system and increase the revenue base of Anambra state, Governor Charles Soludo, during his swearing-in ceremony, announced the suspension of all revenue collections in the state for a period of one month as well as banned the payment of cash to Anambra State Government in motor parks, roads and any other place across the state.
Soludo said that he will immediately sign an executive order cancelling all revenue contracts noting that all internal revenue generation windows are suspended until it is digitalized in Anambra State in addition to creating a new template that would address leakages.
Meanwhile, Governor Soludo about a week ago, announced the appointment of Richard Madiebo as the new Executive Chairman of AIRS.

GOV. SOLUDO'S AGBERO BAN: A BRIEF VIEW OF ONITSHA

From Head-Bridge all the way down to Upper Iweka, MCC Junction, Onitsha South Motor Park, Izuchukwu Motors, Lagos Line, Benin Park etc., there are no presence of Agbero's (touts) selling tickets to Keke Operators.

The ban announced by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles C. Soludo CFR have already started yielding positive fruits. Keke operators, Transport drivers, traders & artisans are really impressed and relieved from the daily harrasments they encounter from Touts.

Mr Governor have earlier promised to empower touts and make them useful members of the society. In his words, "Agbero abughi orlu". New ways of collecting revenue through digital means (ussd or bank payments) are being invented.

Indeed, it's going to be a rigorous task to enforce total eradication of Agberos in Anambra State but the journey of building a smart megacity, a liveable and prosperous homeland have already begun. Won't you rather build with Charlie Nwa Mgbafor?

Somebody reported that tho touts are being phased
out but greedy drivers won’t bring down transport fares. So I am asking does Anambra not have a price control board in terms of transportation? Why is transport fare still high in Anambra state? Before it used to be the drivers complaining of touts humiliating them for illegal tax and now that they’re no longer on the roads, what’s stopping transport fares from decreasing ?

Or are our pple so so greedy that they can’t do the right thing?

We always complain about how govt/leaders keeps failing the nation but the citizens seems more worse than their leaders.

This complain should be looked into.

A better Anambra is all we hope for!

GOVERNOR SOLUDO ORDERS THE IMMEDIATE AND MASSIVE EVACUATION OF REFUSE ON ROADS AND DESILTING OF DRAINAGES IN ANAMBRA STATE.
FRIDAY 1ST TO MONDAY 4TH APRIL 2022.

The Governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Soludo has ordered the removal of refuse on roads and the desilting of drainages in the state starting from Onitsha North, Onitsha South Ogbaru and Idemili local governments; from Friday 1st to 4th April 2022.
This evacuation will also be replicated all over the local governments in the state

The team is headed by the Deputy Governor H. E .Dr. Onyeka Ibezim.

The heap of refuse dumped everywhere on the roads and drainages of Anambra State are highly unprecedented .

This is an ugly situation that heralds the new administration in the state.

These abarrent and extraordinary mounds of refuse heaps became increasingly observed towards the close of the Obiano's regime.
This has never happened in this magnitude in the state.
I want to believe that whoever that was responsible abandoned their responsibility conventionally with our local contractors since the outgoing government may not be there to monitor them or to undertake the payment for their services or still, probably could be that their services had ended .

Whatever may have engendered this kind of unhealthy atmosphere is what this new administration abhors .
The indiscriminate and reckless dumping of refuse on our roads and drainages is entirely unacceptable by the government of Charley Nwamgbafor.

This recklessness and indiscriminate refuse dumping has done a lot of havoc, ranging from all forms of health hazards and gets worst during raining season, spreading and overwhelming the roads and streets with littered objects which blocks drainages and overflows into people's homes sometimes drowning souls who may be resting in their homes .

In some cases pedestrians and motorists may not be able to identify or discern the drainages and they get slipped into the drainages and get drowned.

The flood eventually metamorphosis to erosion which alters landscape and sometimes flush away people's buildings due to the fact that drainages had been blocked with refuse.
Ndi Anambra have been advised by this new government to cooperate with them and keep casting their refuses into designated waste bins to curb or control the health hazards and menaces caused by unhygienic environment and flood.

Every Anambrarian should watch and keep an eye on their environment against reckless and indiscriminate refuse dumping.

I advocate that a bill passed if there is non and fine imposed on defaulters, also every street should have residential refuse supervisors.

For the success of this exercise to be adequately consummated, the state government seriously solicit the maximum cooperation of all citizens of Anambra State and advise they spread this goodwill message to all and sundry in the state.

The government further admonished residents against vehicular movements in the areas concerned; in other words there will be lockdown in the affected areas from the 1st to 4th of April 2022..

NDI ANAMBRA WAKE UP WITH NEW DAWN MONITOR AND KEEP YOUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN !!!

God bless Charley Nwamgbafor!

God bless Dr. Onyeka Ibezim!!

God bless Ndi Anambra!!!

Late Post!

As part of our initiative to take Anambra to the world and also bring the world to Anambra, I had a roundtable engagement with Leaders of foreign Missions and Country Representatives of key International Development and Financial Agencies on the 24th of March in Abuja.

Among other things, we discussed areas of Partnership, project financing opportunities and other bilateral trade options available to subnationals. Value is what we guarantee our prospective development Partners, this is part of our proposed deliverables with regards to our drive towards promoting the "Made in Anambra" brand.

This reason and more is why we must make our State uncomfortable to criminals and their trade. If the vision is to create a Liveable and Prosperous Homeland, we then should recognise the need to engage relevant partners within and outside our shores. As a people, we hope to mainstream the letters of the "Peoples' Manifesto" in line with the contents of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United nations. This meeting is one out of a series of many others that will take place in the coming days.

Anambra will Definitely succeed in our time.

Okpoko Clean Up: Anambra State Government Begins Marking, Over Two Hundred Structures To Be Removed

By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)

In line with the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration's urban renewal effort in Okpoko, Ogbaru Council Area, its environs and the state in general, an enforcement team led by the state Physical Planning Board today, began marking of structures for removal in Okpoko.

The enforcement team was led by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe.

Armed with the Master Plan of Okpoko, the team sited the area from the Second Niger Bridge.

In the process, it was established that over two hundred structures are blocking the road, drainage and water way, thereby preventing successful emptying of flood water into the Niger River.

Okpoko, a sprawling slum which has a population of over a million, sits on the east bank of the Niger River just north of the larger city of Onitsha.

The clean up exercise is one of the major deliverables of Soludo's plan to make Anambra a liveable city.

Barrister Maduekwe explained that the major challenge in the area is that many people blocked the waterway especially the Sakamori drainage, saying that when it rains, it stops water from emptying into the Niger River, causing flooding with its attendant damages

He revealed that the Governor has given instruction to mark every house on the waterway and give them notice to remove by themselves, stating that if they don't remove those structures, government will do so and charge them for the expenses.

The Chief Surveyor, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Somto Atuenyi who pointed out that his mission is to be a guide, said that the board remains focused and committed to the mandate.

Some of the residents expressed joy that the Governor has kept his promise, praying God to help him complete what they described as genuine desire to transform the state.

You will recall that true to his promise, Governor Soludo Visited Okpoko on the 18th of March, 2022, a day after he was sworn in as Governor, where he performed on the spot accessment of the area.

Honestly, our gov is beginning to play into the hands of destroyers of our state. Anybody pressuring Soludo for the release of MNK is useless. Ikpeazu is over there and enjoying peace...no threat to his govt,no pressure mounted on him, he’s never deemed it fit to call for a town hall discussion on peace in the region and release of MNK but Soludo is suddenly the one to release MNK.

What nonsense is that...Soludo do not be too soft on these idiots.

Dude, let me warn you now….i know exactly what you’re all about on this thread! Concentrate on developments in Anambra and stop lowering the tone of this thread with all the unnecessary negativity, defensiveness and looking for trouble where none exists!

With 90% of your posts, you overtly or covertly refer to Mazi Kanu and IPOB in a derogatory way….it’s either that, or you’re trying to cause hate and division between Anambra and other south-east states! The rest 10% of your posts sees you trying to act all innocent and saintly by posting actual positive news on developments in the state!

For the umpteenth time….IPOB is against any sit-at-home, and have disowned that rabble-rouser Ekpa! They aren’t the ones doing any criminality in Anambra or any other south-east state, so concentrate on the positive news coming out of the state and leave IPOB and Mazi Kanu out of your mouth!

I’ve rooted for Prof Soludo from day one….even when he initially contested against Obiano, and i’m sure same can equally be said for every other sensible Igbo who regards Anambra with a sense of admiration and pride, but also sees the bigger picture of our place within a Nigeria structured to disfavour Ndigbo while favouring the other two major ethnicities disproportionately!

Your quarrelsome stance on this thread is causing unnecessary tension, hate and division when instead we should all be trying to create a positive ambience and atmosphere for the new Soludo administration to thrive!
