Knowledge Is Not Taken From Four


Imām Malik [رحمه الله] said:

❝Knowledge is not taken from four:

1. A foolish person who outwardly manifests foolishness even if he is the most abundant of the people in narrating,

2. A person of innovation who calls to his desires,

3. He who lies when he speaks to the people even if you don't deem him [to be a liar] in Hadith,

4. A pious and virtuous worshipper who is not precise in what he narrates.❞

The Fitnah of Doubts and Desires
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (d. 751 AH)
This fitnah is sometimes as a result of incorrect understanding, misinformation, the truth
being confirmed and present, but one was unaware of it so he was not able to get the most
out of it, or sometimes it can simply be that a person has evil intentions and is just
following his desires, thus he becomes from amongst those who are blinded in their vision
and from those who harbour evil in their intentions.

Shaykh ibn Bāz [may Allāh bestow mercy upon him] said:

“[Reciting] Āyat ul-Kursi prior to sleeping is for safety and protection from witchcraft and [the evil plots of] Satan.”

Imam Shafi'i (رحمه الله) said:

“A Sufi cannot be a proper Sufi until he has four characteristics: laziness, eats a lot, very superstitious, and extreme in everything that he does.”

It is reported that Mu'az bn Jabal (رضى الله عنه) said:

“O people, there are four characteristics to come, whoever can avoid reaching them should do so.” [People] asked, “And what are they?” He replied, “There will come a time in which falsehood will rise, and a time will come in which a man will say, ‘By Allah, I do not know what I am’, he will neither live nor die upon insight (knowledge of what he should be). And a time will come in which a man will start his day on one religion and end it on another. And a time will come when a man will be given wealth from the wealth Allah provides, in return for saying what is wrong and false and for which Allah will be angry with him.”

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood said, “Whoever wants to know if he loves Allaah & His Messenger, then let him see if he loves the Quraan [by reciting, pondering & striving to act upon it]”. [Shu’ab al-Eemaan 1861]

Luqman said: “Dear son, seek knowledge as a youth.

It’s hard for the grown-ups to seek knowledge.”
