One thing I like about real Madrid is their automatisms in the middle third. Their combination, one touch plays which seems to always free a spare man in that middle. They pull it off quite well.

Lol, there's no assurance that Mendy wouldn't have been in that position; its not like he lives in his own half and they were chasing the game afterall.

But all of these would be academic if only Kante put enough height on the ball, something which he had more than enough time to do. That is first an unforced error from Kante before anything else.
Between Mendy and Marcelo who was playing in a more advanced position from the jump? Marcelo was told to be more advanced when he came on (LWB). Alaba was told to occupy the LCB position whereas Mendy was playing LB till he was subbed off. Marcelo's position meant that he could participate in pressing up quicker than Mendy could all game. Kante tried to be cute with his pass but he may have gotten through had Marcelo not been there to intercept. I wonder why you guys can't see it. Why do you think Ancelotti made that substitution?

Edit: by the way Marcelo was asked to pass between the lines unlike Mendy who was trying to overlap when he had the chance. That inside pass also was needed for Modric.

Courtesy of so many factors, among them is Benzema ability to drop anywhere from the midfield to the attack. The full backs also tend to drift inward to the midfield rather than forcing play on the flank. They know how to keep it simple .

Did you miss road? I've always said Jorginho and Kovacic are our best pivot. Even after that super cup final against Villarreal that Cassanova was calling him out I was defending him.

The game was Chelsea's to chase not Madrid's, you needed 2 goals. There was no way he was going all out at the start. You are making my point again when you say he was reactive which means he read the game, realized he needed to make changes in personnel and tactics, which yielded immediate impact.

And Ancelotti didn’t have to wait for Chelsea to score before fixing his faulty approach. This doesn’t mean I support him going hung ho either.

The truth is if Madrid had an outlet and were getting chnces, CheLSea wouldn’t have that confidence that they can turn things around.

The only good chance they had was Benzema’s header that hit the bar. If they had multiple of those, CheLSea won’t play like they did.

There is no way in hell kovacic will score so low. I think he was our best player on the pitch, another thing is mount pls aside the fact that he scored the first goal the only time I see him is during corner kicks. There must be something missing in his game.

Absolutely false. First off, Ancelotti could have easily made the wrong substitution with the players selected but he made the right combinations that yielded impact. Not every combination make impact, worth more immediate impact. Making the right combination during a substitution is a tactic of its own.

Without the substitutions, they would have been running in circles and still chasing the game, after all that was what they were doing through till the 73rd minute when Camavinga came in. Camavinga came in in the 73rd minute for Kroos but it did not yield the impact Ancelotti was looking for..

78th minute: He brings in Marcelo for Mendy and Rodrygo for Casemiro, guess what happened 2 minutes afterwards? GOAL! By who? Rodrygo.. Prior to the goal, Madrid had gained control of the game and were playing in Chelsea's half and final third.

88th minute: He removes one of his CB in Nacho for an attacking player in Vasques, guess what happened 8 minutes later? Boom...Goal.

Give the man his due, it will not kill you.

This is true, and they do it at the back too when playing out of the press..
It starts from the back, for a team that doesn't encounter the high press often enough, they play out of it nicely...

Would love to see how it works vs City, if they play out with the same effectiveness, City might just be out...
