Ukrainian authorities announced that they hit the Russian cruiser Moskova in the Black Sea with a Neptune missile. The Russian Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, reported that as a result of the fire on the cruiser, the ammunition exploded and severe damage occurred.

Maksim Marchenko, Head of the Odessa Region Military Administration of Ukraine, where Russia declared war, stated that two Neptune cruise missiles launched by the Ukrainian armed forces hit the Moskova cruiser ship of the Russian fleet, and as a result, a fire started on the ship.

Marchenko stated that the estimated crew of the cruiser, which was severely damaged, was 510.



STATEMENT FROM RUSSIA: AMMUNITION EXPLODED

The Russian Ministry of Defense made a statement regarding the condition of the ship "Moskova" belonging to the Russian Black Sea fleet.

"The Moscow cruiser was badly damaged due to the explosion of ammunition as a result of the fire," the statement said.



It was stated in the statement that the crew on the ship was evacuated and the cause of the fire was being investigated.

The Ukrainian media reported that the Moscow cruiser, which attacked Ukrainian soldiers on Snake Island in the first days of the Russia-Ukraine war, prevented Ukrainian ships from leaving the coast during the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.

One of the flagships of the Russian navy, the guided missile cruiser "Moskova" was launched in 1979 and was renovated in 2020.

The cruiser Moskova is known as a ship equipped with 16 anti-ship missiles with a range of 700 kilometers, as well as the S-300 air defense missile system.

In 2015, the ship led the Russian navy's permanent task force in the Mediterranean and served to protect the Russian Hmeimim military airbase in Syria.
