I may be wrong but I think the whole thing happened in Dubai which definitely is not within the jurisdiction of our police. I feel the statement just like Lagos state government's closure of the school is a knee-jerk reaction that is really not the best step in this case.

With just one SAN on the school's payroll this case will be thrown out if it goes to trial and people will complain of about how judicial saytem frustrates the executive ( the police and Lagos state government in this case).

I may be wrong but it will be difficult to get the school sanctioned other than for negligence on their part allowing the immoral act to happen on their watch.. This may just attract a slap on the wrist and nothing else.

I honestly do not know what a a child that’s not 16 is supposed to do with a smart phone that is internet enabled. They will probably open social media accounts , follow current trends and see some of the stuff they are not yet matured enough to handle.

The school sure needs some explanations to do about negligence on their part, the parents also have serious questions to answer.

You said it....One of the things I will continue to advocate for is early and correct Sex Ed..Most of our parents are negligent concerning this issue preferring to take the "I nor won spoil am stance" until your child receives his Sex Ed from his/her peers...I remember hearing one lady telling her 10 year old daughter to don't allow any boy or man carry her on the lap without giving any reason, my thought at that moment was that what she did was made sure that the girl will let boys carry her now because of natural curiosity abnd the lady probably thought she was giving sound advice...The more you try to hide these things from children, you ensure they'll find other ways to get it...

You are spot on! I an relate with most of the points raised in Ur post. During our time most of us didn't come across porn until some of our randy friends brought "hints", "hearts" and other soft sell porn magazines to class. Nowadays a curious teen can just type "big tits videos" on Google and he/she will have tons of xxxxx contents to consume at his leisure without any parent ever knowing

Just like u pointed out COVID-19 came with its challenges of distance learning that requires these teens having to access lectures via Internet but the parents will have a role to play here. They can't just go to sleep assuming the kids are only doing academic stuff with the unrestricted Internet access they made available to them. And yes, maybe this is the time for our ISP's tocome up with plans that restricts x rated sites. Maybe an educational plan they need to market and recommend for parents who have teenagers. We have two problems here.
Schools are no longer a place for upbringing of kids (especially in posh schools), I have two sisters in the education sector, and i will tell you that plainly, that schools don't care about training your kids in any otherwise than academic, they don't discipline students, the school doesn't want to lose the wards (it's all about business), the students could fire their teachers for as filmsy a reason as "we don't like her", the result therefore is that teachers are simply mannequins that the students don't respect. Anyone who thinks schools participates in upbringing of children, should go to any school (especially posh private schools) ask the teachers about their experiences and you will see the kind of monsters our academic system is breeding.
Which brings us to our second problem, The "should" naturally have the responsibility of training the kids, i mean, these children spend, from at least 7:30am till 4pm in schools. But as with the first problem, the schools don't have a platform to do that. Who wants to train your child? The teacher that they don't respect?
The second problem is parents leave training of their children to the schools (by virtue of the amount of time they spend there) and in return the schools and it's personnels do not really have the mandate to train your kids (in the end, it's the report card that matters, how many A's your child can muster).
Not to mention the ever present hands of peer influence.

The summary is that things are bad, child upbringing is in danger, perhaps, it always have been, but with advent of social media, it's fruits are more exposed, without a camera in that room, it's just same old, same old. Those children obviously have experience in these acts, it's not something new to them.

Last last, parenting is about doing your best.
