My mom owns a boutique, but you see neighbour's going as far as the other road to buys things instead of just buying from us. Wearing new palms everyday, when we have same quality but they prefer buying elsewhere. I don't know why.

Same with my OGa that am learning barbing at his shop, some neighbour's don't cut hair at his place... This guy is so good and friendly that the whole Street knows him. He barbs very well too, but some people that stays opposite his stores always barb from somewhere else, but in the evening no light, they come to charge their devices.

Please why's that

It is always like that. A king is not valued in his own base. Because they see you everyday, some get offended in you for no reason, others out of envy and bitterness. It is always like that ,not only your boss or mom, that is human for you

..... Sorry about that. But at times those neighbours selling stuffs close to you will be selling at a more exorbitant amount thinking that because they are very close to you,you don't have a choice.

Another is that some sells fake and want to manipulate you into buying it because you are all neighbours

Let me give you an example. A woman that owns a super store very close to me sold me an expired bag of rice and when I went back to complain to her,she started making an issue out of it. I left both the bag of rice and the money and till today we have never bought anything from there.

Some are out of jealousy.
So many factors my dear.

E no mean, na choice... Sometimes loyalty matter, you don't expect me to stop buying from a person i have been doing business for many years in order to please my new neighbor.... some people go with price preference....

Maybe your mom doesn't have a great attitude. You see good customer service is very important in any business. Tell your mom to greet people even if they are younger than her, tell her to smile more and learn how to crack jokes and her business will turn around. Maybe she's always frowning her face and acting entitled. Tell her to watch YouTube videos and learn how to smile and crack jokes. Goodluck.

What is more appalling is the fact that you believe certain people must buy from you even when you have not done enough to earn their loyalty and patronage.

That's entitlement mentality, a more dangerous trend amongst Nigerians.

The other place may be run by their relatives, friends, etc.

Your neighbours probably already have places they patronise before your mum opened her store.

People don't appreciate customers they are overly familiar with. Often, sell substandard products, hike the price unnecessarily.

Lastly, the entitlement. No one owes your mum patronage. People have choice, allow them exercise it.

Even some family members and friends would prefer going past you to get their goods and services else where. For me I don't see any issue in that, get your things from wherever it pleases you but don't ever come to my side when it's time to buy on credit, na der you go know say God no get tribal marks..

Its quite normal in our society.

Most people don't wish you well, or even want you to be successful with anything you embark on.

If you want to be a success at a business, don't establish it, at where you are well known. It's either they kill your business with debt or out rightly decide not to patronize you.

This has happened to me before, so I'm talking from experience here.

To avoid problems
I don't buy stuff from my landlady because
1 I don't eat junk
2 one thing lead to one thing before you know talk beef and arguments on quality of stuff bought, change or money issues. Shes very saucy. To avoid all that and promote a conducive atmosphere for all parties, one must go elsewhere

Imagine a neighbour prying into my privacy, asking me personal questions with so much confidence.

I began to wonder how we got here. The audacity. This is a neighbour that doesn't give 2 fvcks about my business 5years as neighbours.

cool

To avoid see finish

If you want to enjoy your afternoon cold garri and groundnut with fish

Buy Garri at your first neighbours shop and let him think you want to make Eba

Buy Sugar at your second neighbours shop to make her think you want to drink tea with it

Buy cold pure water at the next street and have them think you want to drink it cos you are thirsty

By the fish on your way home so that they might think it's a gift for your kids

Lastly never take the same route the next day when buying your food

The day you decide to buy garri, sugar, groundnut and fish in the same neighbours shop is the day they start seeing you as a poor man in your neighbourhood

Familiarity. Its simple.

I don't buy stuff from my neighbours, I don't even barb on the same street. I'm a quiet person and I mind my business.

So sometimes I don't believe you and me should be that familiar just because of same neighborhood

why would your mum own a boutique and you go to learn barbing ? Can't you learn the business from your mum?
