A Politician’s career is timed and limited, you can only steal so much before someone comes and takes it from you

But a business man only gets fined for illegality and those fines are minuscule thanks to rules that were written decades ago that don’t factor inflation and other variables

Buhari will become irrelevant as a power broker in a year or 2, dangote will still be relevant for the foreseeable future

Also you don’t want to alienate titans of industries, the only power Nigerian government have over dangote is the power to nationalize his company but he has diversified his investment in various countries that not only will that action be counterproductive, the backlash Nigeria government will get from the international community and foreign investors will be greater than whatever benefits the government hoped it could accomplish from taking such actions

We haven’t even factored jobs that his companies provide and the clout his identity as the richest man in Africa gives to Nigeria

China can take such measures because their economy is vastly diversified and not dominated by any individual and because the government owns a significant stake in most companies in china, they can exert such controls, Nigerians politicians don’t have such leverage, they are broke, buyable and very naive
