we as Nigerians should put security in mind when on any dealings.could cabling be left as the last thing to do on the project?on my build.I'm making sure every window and door plus burglary proof is fitted even paintnt b4 cables go in ot anything that could be stollen go in.

I think this is still OK... Just like me now, my build indoor has been plastered but left the outdoor area letf unplaster... Till total finishing... Because I felt plastering the outdoor will mk d build flashy unlike when not plaster... I intend doing all other works indoors... Such as tiling, fitting toilets and kitchen wear, buy the cable but keep it...

Suggestion/advice is highly welcome on this plan if mine. Thanks..

Not a standard metric tho
But 1m have been specified in one of our commercial design during vetting.

For residential, most times they don’t even request for gate house plan during vetting, Neither do they mandate you to show its position on your site plan. (Of course which I think is wrong) that’s why most people end up setting their standards themselves.

Thanks Charisdesigns.., wink

Still corroborates I said. There's no setback rule for gatehouse for residential buildings that I know off.

What do you mean by no setback rule!!!
I hope you're are not one of those building security/gate house on a fence wall all in the name of no setback rule.....

please use the opportunity to educate us.

I expected you to respond to the post with evidence of the setback rule.

If there's a setback rule for gatehouse, I'm not aware of it.

I’m with you Sir.

Maybe be it’s an exposure thing but I’m actually concerned about the fact that I have to explain this to people on here.

Preference is one thing but steadfastly sticking to the idea that shared fence/wall structure is superior is somewhat disturbing.

Gate houses mostly aren't on the shared wall with neighbours. It's usually on the approach view, front / road- facing side of the building.

The boldest part.
Does it mean you want a double wall along the sides and at the back of your building? Your neighbour builds his fence and you build yours along the same sides?

Please I need ideas on how to go about getting approval for a building in Port-Harcourt, Obio Akpor LGA to be precise and that of Urban what I need is a rough idea of the cost implications. It's a 1 storey building of 4 flats 2 and 3 bedrooms

Keep about 1 million aside for all the approvals including paying community boys.

And don't start buikding till you finish approval. If not, you'll be paying "contravention".

CCTV is very important. Every home should have at least a four channel system.

Also a CCTV that is not monitored or cannot be monitored remotely is not good enough.

Taking it further, where are recordings stored? on site or in the cloud?

Some thieves will take away your CCTV device

What's the fastest way to get CofO and building permit in Ogun state?

If it's building permit.. And it's Ado-odo / ota, you'd be ready to spend about 400k for a Bungalow..

I don't have an idea about C of O.

it does not, but think about it this way, a thief getting in through the gateman's wall is the same as a theif getting through the fence wall, the wall is still the same thickness all round, if the thief breaks in through the wall, what makes you think he won't break through the other walls. Never forget the essence of this security measures is to alert the residents of a suspected attack.
Usually Windows are not installed on that bounding walls, a theif quietly pointing a gun through the window would not want to fire.
I personally don't like see through, while you protect your house against human invaders with see through railings, you leave your house vulnerable to snakes and other crawling animals.... No good to me.

Everything boils down to choice though. And if we take cost into view, a local man will not want to employ the use of cctv com cams and automated security measures.

Look at this window @Rany4all

It's just a small peephole over looking both ends of the street.

Any serious thief / thieves with guns have several ways to access a building. They melt blocks with acid, they cut electric fence, they blow gates with dynamite..

It might be easier to run, hide or disappear (like EgunMogaji) if you see them coming.. which is what the window does.

By default mine is stored somewhere in China. I configured an optional cloud location for mine. They can take the box if they can access it.

I want neighbors to respect boundary walls and build standalone structures.

Thanks.

PS: I built the wall.

In other words, it makes sense to place the device in a less than obvious location, making it obvious is a security error.

It illustrates failure to think like a thief to thwart a thief.

You are doing well, Sir.

The only benefit I see there is the cost savings. The half fence does exactly what they sought to achieve with joining the house to the fence and the peep hole...it's an overkill for me.

Weldone Sir, you're almost there.

Just one question though...about that protruding part of your roof as circled below, was the roof designed that way or just an afterthought? I mean, considering the face of the building appears square/flush, I would have expected that side of the roof to be square/flush as well.

This is why I specifically standardize on IP SecCams.

Each IP camera has an IP address. So it’s a really simple matter to assign what IP address any device can see. The SecGuard only needs to see the perimeter cameras in my setup,

Also a simple UPS will provide backup power.

You buy a ups, you'd best ship your batteries from Yankee. Batteries are a Fucken horror story in these parts. Gone in 3 months.

It all depends on the location and the purpose. Eg in a proper corporate office with access control etal, the camera is in an obvious location.

In a home, camera is better hidden

In a site, I guess you want a mix of dummy and real cameras. Your risk is that the installers boys may sell you out for a small token.

A good builder/engineer creates setbacks in the absence of non.....or probably those who decided to create their own setback are probably just doing what is not acceptable.

This is why security is personal.

For me I specifically positioned my cameras to be visible internally and externally.

I installed and configured my CCTV myself.

This painting was not done in Nigeria. Nigerian painters do not know how to not stain anything that is not the wall. They also do not know how to draw a perfect demarcating line with their brush.

I disagree with your interpretations about Nigeria painters sir. You don’t expect miracles to happen when you give your job to a roadsides painters. To perform a professional skills. I have hundreds of my company super drawing and cutting job with brush and can’t find any stain on the floor after work. Let us appreciate and give works to professionals not roadsides jobs seekers all in the name of cutting costs.
