Between Education And Infrastructure Which One Would Improve The Economy ? by 4teenblaq: 6:54pm On Jun 27, 2022 |
I stumbled on a video where Peter Obi was lecturing on air in Arise TV or so last year or so. He made points of improving the Economy of Nigeria, he said something that struck me, he said Nigeria does not need infrastructure to improve the economy now, that what is needed are Education and investing or improving SMEs . Initially I was taught that infrastructure improves the economy of any state, so let the video play for a while to see if he would point out why he said infrastructure can't improve the economy.. At the end I was disappointed, he didn't show how.. But he did state why education can improve the economy by stating some points with facts (he did some reference on India as a country how they were able to pull out about 200 million persons from poverty through SMEs and Education in five years or so, I did some investigation, He was right!) But what I didn't understand was the former.. So I decided to check myself on how infrastructure can't improve the economy. I did some findings that infrastructure can't improve your economy if you are borrowing to fund the infrastructure and it would lead to waste when such infrastructure can't be maintained. I realised That is where Nigeria as a Nation is showcasing her prowess. So guys what do you think on this issue? |

4teenblaq:There are only two ways to develop any economy; infrastructural development and human resources development(education). Sincerely, if you truly studied you should be here correcting the fallacy by HE Obi who actually studied Philosophy and not Social sciences. In basic secondary school economics explaination, just imagine you build schools and have no trained teachers in the school, the economic development such school will give is zero. I won't be suprised if PO deny saying what you quoted him of saying. Only an ignorant person can make such a ridiculously dumb remark. 82 Likes |

Go and ask those traveling by train from Abuja to Kaduna, if those that kidnapped them have good education and flourishing businesses.. He never said Nigeria does not need infrastructure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biu_KBfEqBk Thats the difference between Peter Obi and Tinubu. Tinubu focuses on the symptoms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOMEo8XC__M While obi deals with the root cause. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkeanawTimI

Education without Infrastructures will only make our society porous. Where is education when there is no Job? Education will only make us wiser and eye openers but without Infrastructures everybody will become Froudsters . We have been witnessing it in the south . Education is becoming scam due to the lack of Infrastructures that will create employment. We must all be able to define "Education" to me it should not be limited to going to higher institution but what you have to offer the society .

FreeStuffsNG: How does having no trained teachers go with infrastructure?, A trained teacher is a result of education infrastructure ( I think) .The infrastructure here PO is referring to is like the one of transport infrastructure (he even gave a hint on that)! |

4teenblaq:Please stop embellishing the ignorance in that dumb remark nah.It is disgraceful. Why don't you pick up a good O'level economics textbook and read This is elementary econs o. A trained teacher needs classrooms, lab, library etc in buildings for him to teach his students and pupils , not under trees and when he is sick he needs hospitals he will access faster with good network of roads transportation lest he dies before reaching the healthcare facility. Those who will build the infrastructures will be trained by trained teachers. That is why both infrastructure and HR development go on simultaneously. 80 Likes |

You need Education to be able to build, manage and maintain a good infrastructures. Without education your infrastructures is just a waste, I need to teach my grandma in the village the functions of a cellphone before buying her one. If not she will not value it or take it as a mere toy and wouldn't even mind giving it to children to play with. 1 Like 1 Share |

FreeStuffsNG: You should know how to address things calmly rather than making it looks like are being angered to proof a point. The issue here is that, the "education" is educational infrastructure while the other "infrastructure" is like transport. Maybe I am not giving the correct interpretation of what PO said which I see from you write up, you actually going a wrong pattern of it. Here is what He said, “The more educated the people, the better it on the economy, which in the long run helps our development as a nation. You don’t do physical infrastructure before human infrastructure. Human capital is too low in Nigeria. You need to pull people, people, out of poverty. That’s what the Asian countries did. India pulled 250 million people out of poverty in 5 years,” he added. The former governor of Anambra State, who said he embarked on comparative studies of economies of 31 countries to figure out where Nigeria go wrong, regretted that corruption, reckless spending and “sick leadership” have been the bane of Nigeria’s progress. He said, “What people are acquiring now is no longer greed. It’s become a sickness. People are sick here. People have to reduce their greed. People are acquiring what they don’t need. 80 billion nairas is a budget of a state. That’s no longer greed, it’s sickness.” Asked his message for the Nigerian youths striving to make incursions into Nigerian politics, Obi simply urged young people to ensure that they select the right people that would help them build a better future. He said, “One of the main reasons why Nigeria is not progressing economically is that people think our problem can be solved by politics. The engine of solving this problem is the economy. The economy must work. The engine of productivity is the young people. “The reason why it’s worse now is that we young people in their productive age doing nothing at the time the system is supposed to support them; at the time they have all the energy. The greatest employer of labour is the Micro Small Enterprises. That’s where the dominant young people are. They need to be supported with ideas and grants. They need to be properly directed. Government need s to give them hope.”. 1 Like 1 Share |

4teenblaq: Obi just lectured you on development Economics here, developing countries normally use the unbalanced growth model to develop their economies, here he made reference to education and smes. It can be education and others, the truth is that poor countries can not fund infrastructure without borrowing, so for a poor country to achieve short term growth, it need to invest in education and small scale business, which will grow the GDP and lead to massive Economic growth. When that is achieved, massive investment in infrastructure will commence, those businesses will be taxed and revenue gotten from those business will be used in building infrastructure. moreover, no country can survive without SMEs, even USA. 1 Like 1 Share |

I think we should focus more on primary and secondary education. Public university education in Nigeria now is a joke. A playground for reta.arded Internet fraudsters and trainee prostitutes to corrupt the atmosphere, whilst graduating in 'flying colours'. The entire country's social fabric is in ruins, and only a transformer can begin to engineer something close to rescuing the country from the abyss. It's not merely a matter of 'education' or infrastructure. Nigeria actually needs a person with an impossible blend of Chairman Mao, Lee Kuan Yew, and Franklin Roosevelt. Someone with selfless motive, grand ideas, and ruthless implementation, but also with enough charisma to win hardcore loyalists to support the change from the difficult beginning till the end. I don't know whether Peter Obi is that person, but we know for sure that neither Tinubu or Atiku is. 2 Likes 1 Share |

ASK HOW THEY INTEND TO IMPROVE EDUCATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE AND WHERE THEY'LL GET THE MONEY TO DO THEM. NONE OF THEM KNOW HOW AND WHERE TO RAISE THE MONEY. SIT DOWN TO MISAPPROPRIATE, MISMANAGE AND LOOT FUNDS, THAT IS WHAT NIGERIA POLITICIANS KNOW. |

4teenblaq:You do not delay or postpone one for the other is what I have been telling you since. HE Obi is absolutely wrong. If you repeat falsehood one million times,it does not become the truth. Forget what he is saying, he is wrong again. No nation in the world postpones one for the other. They are two sides of a coin. Please read so noone will cheapen you with falsehood. 80 Likes |

FreeStuffsNG: You are still dealing this on a wrong angle. Look at what he said here The more educated the people, the better it on the economy, which in the long run helps our development as a nation. You don’t do physical infrastructure before human infrastructure. Human capital is too low in Nigeria". Also here he said "The greatest employer of labour is the Micro Small Enterprises. That’s where the dominant young people are. They need to be supported with ideas and grants. They need to be properly directed. Government need s to give them hope.”. From what I can deduce here, he meant we should be able to be productive when we are given education and grants to bring up development. What is the point of having hospitals, railways, etc when you can't afford them? 1 Like 1 Share |

If Nigeria isn't industrialised, all our eduated people will take their knowledge to other countries. For Nigeria to be industrialised, we need two things. Power and steel companies. Those two things are infrastructures. Whether you admit it or not, Peter Obi goofed there. The same Peter Obi that said he went to Egypt to study their infrastructure is saying infrastructure doesn't drive an economy.. |

I listened to that interview, even Abati,Rufai, Oginika and Abiola daughter agreed that buhari borrowed money infrastructure was a misplaced priority. The billions of dollars borrowed to build Abuja kaduna rail is not a waste? Today it is not running. If the boko haram members were educated, they would not have embarked on the destruction schools, train, telecom masts etc. Go and listen to the interview, he's absolutely right. |
