Oyindamolah:
.

Let’s look at what it takes to be a nurse vs. a radiologist now that we’ve answered the main question.

So let’s talk about Radiology

As a radiologist, you will assist other doctors in diagnosing and treating patients, which can be a rewarding career.

Those who work in the field of radiology, unlike many other professions, never have the same day twice. A typical day may contain a variety of patient problems, unusual settings, and the application of cutting-edge technology.

As a radiologist, you’ll use ultrasound, x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and other imaging equipment to diagnose and treat patients.

The majority of radiologic and MRI technologists are full-time employees. Some technologists work evenings, weekends, or overnight shifts since imaging is occasionally required in emergencies.

Nursing is a demanding professional path, but if you are compassionate and want to help the weak and sick, this is the path for you.

You must also be willing to work long hours in high-stress settings and put your patients’ needs ahead of your own.

Advanced-degreed nurses are in high demand all around the world, and they can find work in both the private and public sectors quickly.

To begin your career as a nurse, you must complete one of three educational paths: a bachelor’s degree in nursing, an associate’s degree in nursing, or a diploma from a recognized nursing program.

A license is required for registered nurses.

Many people mistakenly believe that nursing means caring for patients.

It’s much more than that, though.

Nurses are increasingly taking on leadership roles in healthcare settings, and they are capable of accomplishing a variety of tasks.

Furthermore, advanced education allows you to specialize in a certain field.

Specialty fields such as Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse Midwives, and Nurse Practitioners

What Do Nurses Do Every Day?
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their families.

Registered nurses typically do the following:

Assess patients’ conditions
Record patients’ medical histories and symptoms
Observe patients and record the observations
Administer patients’ medicines and treatments
Set up plans for patients’ care or contribute information to existing plans
Consult and collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals
Operate and monitor medical equipment
Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze the results
Teach patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries
Explain what to do at home after treatment

What Do Radiologists Do Every Day?
Radiology or radiologic technologists, commonly known as radiographers, are medical professionals that perform x-rays and other diagnostic imaging procedures on patients. MRI techs create diagnostic images using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners.

Radiologic and MRI technologists typically do the following:

Adjust and maintain imaging equipment
Follow precise orders from physicians on what areas of the body to image
Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and shielding exposed areas that do not need to be imaged
Position the patient and the equipment to get the correct image
Operate the computerized equipment to take the images
Work with physicians to evaluate the images and to determine whether additional images need to be taken
Keep detailed patient records.

How To Become A Nurse Practitioner?
Becoming a Nurse Practioner will take significant time and effort.

The education and training of a Nurse Practitioner normally take six to eight years.

Typically require a master’s degree in the field of your choice (two to three years.) Then required to take and pass the APRN certification exam (less than one year.)

How To Become A Radiologist?
Students interested in radiologic or MRI technologies should pursue math and science classes such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, and physics in high school.

Individuals must undergo a four-year radiology residency after graduating from medical school.

On-call employment has been increasingly common in the last two years, which some people find both physically and mentally taxing. A one- or two-year fellowship program, usually in a specific area of radiology, must be completed.

To practice as a radiologist, candidates must pass the United States Medical Licensing Exam or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Exam.

Many radiologists also need to pass state boards and be certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology or the American Board of Radiology.

Nurses Practitioners earn more than Radiologist, with the median wage of a Nurse Practitioner at $117,670 compared to $63,710 per annum

However, wages will vary on the number of years of experience, geographical location, etc.

Job Role Median Wage / Per Annum
Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Anesthetists, Midwives $117,670
Registered Nurse $75,330
According to US Labor Bureau and Statistics, the median annual wage for nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners was $117,670 per year in 2020.

The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less.

The lowest 10 percent earned less than $82,460, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $184,180.

Median annual wages for nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners in May 2019 were as follows:

Nurse anaesthetists $183,580
Nurse practitioners $111,680
Nurse-midwives $111,130
In May 2020, the median annual wages for nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners in the top industries in which they worked were as follows:

Hospitals; state, local, and private $124,660
Outpatient care centres $122,840
Offices of physicians $114,570
Offices of other health practitioners $111,610
Educational services; state, local, and private $111,400
Source; Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse Midwives, and Nurse Practitioners: Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov)

With demand predicted to grow by 9% every year, you should have no trouble finding work in Radiology. However, with anticipated growth of 45 percent from 2020 to 2030, far faster than the average for all occupations, obtaining a Practitioner position will not be a problem.

Final Thoughts
Nursing is regarded to be better than Radiology because it pays better, is more in demand, and has more career choices. Both nurses and radiologists must complete arduous academic qualifications. Nurses and radiologists both work shifts and spend a lot of time on their feet. Both professions are customer-facing.

It is important to choose what to study.

Speak with trustworthy friends and family members, and think about obtaining professional help.

Before choosing a career path to study, consider your talents and limits, as well as your likes and dislikes.

You just copied and paste something without even understanding one bit of what you posted.

Radiology and Radiography are not the same. A Radiologist is a medical doctor who has undergone training to specialise in the field of radiology (just like a cardiologist, Neurosurgeon, Opthalmologist etc). For you to be a Radiologist, you must first be a medical doctor.

A radiographer is someone who has gone to the university to study Radiography and has graduated.

First a nurse wud and will always work under the supervision of a doctor i.e extremely subservant to doctors bwhile Radiographers work with mutual respect and in some cases gives directive to doctors who basically know little or nothing about medical imaging

Secondly nurse cannot build or supervise a personal hospital or clinical center without being monitored by doctor while Radiographers can have his/her personal diagnostic as well as therapeutic (treatment) center without doctor

You are dangerously unformed and ridiculously outdated of the happenings in hospital settings. First, nurses have what they call NURSING CARE PLAN. In the care plan, they outline their diagnosis, analyze the disease conditions and work out their treatment modalities which involve both non pharmacological and pharmacological therapies. And it's based on this reason that nurses have licence to open private hospitals and employ any medical staffs they need. They are not under doctors as slaves but rather as partners with the common goal of duty of care.
This cant be said of radiographers that are trained to work in the hospital under the tight supervision of medical doctors. Your duty as a radiographer is to capture radiographic images and develop them as films. The doctors (Radiologists) interprete the films captured by the radiographers and then formulate the diagnosis based on clinical and radiographic experience. I see a lot of you guys in the hospital in the course of my training so, I'm speaking out of experience.

in some cases gives directive to doctors who basically know little or nothing about medical imaging
Also, you are wrong because, all medical doctors passed through radiology posting in 500 Level during medical program. Or are u refereeing to the radiologist doctors who have had 4 to 5 years residency training and you are telling us that your oga no sabi the subject matter? O boy u suppose recieve better cane if u mention this thing outside here.

Thirdly. The esteem of Radiographers are uncompairable that they are referred to as Oracle of Modern Medicine and eagle eye of modern MEDICINE while nurses are merely reference as clinical Messengers.
Oh sorry guy, I think you meant to say that you guys will be Outcast of Modern Medicine. If you like don't go and learn programming languages and add it to your radiography becauses when advances of technology hit you enh...
By the way, Nurses are not mere messengers. This is the wrong perceptions reflective of many uninformed nigerians. Rather, nurses are key allies to doctors in the administration of care to patients. Some times, they remind doctors of drugs or anything the doctor must have forgotten due to many things on the doctor's mind. During surgical operations, they ensure the operations go smoothly. Infact, nurses are the best friend of the doctors because correct the doctors lapses. And more importantly, nurses are the closest to patients giving them the opportunity to obtain favour outside the hospital after a job well done. Unfortunately, many nurses do not tap into this opportunity here in nigeria because of the stressful work conditions in country.

Fourtly evolution of Radiography is not even at it peak yet because it will keep evolving with technology.

Let me lecture you a bit, you see enh... the services of medical technicians/techologies/scientists is fading gradually with advances in technology. With time, stand alone devices to run most of the lab tests are underway and that will send many of the technicians and scientist off the market except you'll start learning to become a developer. To start with, have you heard of POCT which stands for Point of Care Testing? Please read about it if you care. That's the beginning of your nightmares. With more of such developments in the hospital, there will be lesser demand for the services of medical technologies/technician and medical laboratory scientist. You guys have been giving the pathologists (laboratory doctors) serious headache in the lab. But for the nurses, they are indespensable in the health sector, any day anytime.

Fiftly nurse can only treat menial illnesses like maleria and typhoid and they cant diagnose....while radiographers is involved in tratement of malignant illnesses like cancer, infertility and they can diagnose (i.e they do diagnostic and therapeutic)

Again, another error. Nurses treat through their documented Nursing Care Plan while No Radiographers is permitted to perform radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is in the exlusive jurisdiction of Radiologist (Medical Doctors). The day you try radiotherapy without the supervision of the Radiologist, you will face the council and then you risk losing your liscence.

As for the op, please let your passion direct your choice of profession.

This is not peculiar to nursing alone. I have a friend who studied physiotherapy and I know how long it took him to get job. Pharmacies, medlab scientists, doctors etc are equally underpaid in private hospitals.
I know that the issue of nursing is worrisome due to the fact that private hospitals are training quacks and paying them peanut too.

Re: Radiography Vs Nursing Which Is Better by stineb1: 8:25pm On Jun 30, 2022
This depends on what your life goals are. I can say authoritatively that the chances of one getting a job abroad, especially in the UK, are higher and more accessible for Radiographers than nurses. Additionally, Radiographers in the private healthcare institutions in Nigeria earns almost twice the salary of their nursing counterpart in the same institution because revenue for Imaging(X-ray, ultrasound, Mammography, CT scan, MRI scan and Radiotherapy are the live wire of a hospital and medical diagnostic centres.
Having said so, Radiography and Nursing are both good and critical allied healthcare professions where unemployment rates are nonexistent, especially in Radiography. As someone stated earlier, No Radiographer in Nigeria is unemployed.

God's grace with your decision.

I am willing to provide more advice if you so wish.

Bless up!

Go for radiography, you have less exposure to people at their worst. You don't have to relate much with relatives, patients and other professionals which are one of the stressors in nursing. Humans can be difficult to deal with.

The best health professions for your mental health are those with minimal contact with people, medical lab science, pharmacy, radiography, earn your cool money with more peace. Nursing has it worst cos you are the middle man to be dribbled by everyone

To become a registered nurse in nigeria, you must be currently enrolled in a recognized nursing school in either a Univeristy (BNSc nurse) or school of nursing (OND nurse); and then you must have sat for and passed the three papers in the nursing and midwifery council's professional examinations.

Diagnostic Radiography
Therapeutic Radiography

Therapeutic Radiography carryout radiotherapy under the supervision of the Radiologist. And this is done in larger hospitals like tertiary health facilities.

Here's how it's done. The clinicians (surgeon or physician) suspects a malignancy and then sends samples to the pathologists. The pathologists conduct some tests and confirm if there's a malignancy and sends the report to the clinician. The clinician then stage the tumor and decided to go chemotherapy or radiotherapy or both. He sends consults to the radiology department. Mind you, it is the consultant who is a radiologist that recieves the consult. The radiologist then plan for radiotherapy with his team involving the radiographers.

You are right about your second point, that's part of why Radiography is more sophisticated.
However, a Radiologist is not needed to carry out Radiotherapy.
You can't just graduate as a Radiographer though and become that automatically , you have to undergo further studies in Radiotherapy/Nuclear medicine.
